Didn’t Fred Funk skip the Open and play an opposite field event because he thought it gave him a better chance at making the Ryder Cup team? Maybe I’m misremembering or the rule has been changed since then.

Kenny Perry did that back in 2008. Skipped the Open Championship for the US Bank event. There may have been others. I know a player can not skip a WGC event they are eligible for to play the opposite event. I'm uncertain if the rules were changed on skipping a major to play an opposite event. That's why I removed my post you quoted. It only really impacts The Open Championship.

I think Brad Faxon also did this in the 1990s. He skipped the Open for the B.C. Open (which he won).

Last year there were 25 players who had an equal or better scoring average than the scoring leader for the TPA tour in 81-82. My point is then and now that Bill Rogers comparison to Jordan 2015 is a farce . 4 wins and done in 81-82 equaled a hot month or two and gone. Jordan beat the majority of the best of today in the majors for 3 seasons.

So you are comparing scoring averages of today to those from the early 80’s? Why?

My point was that Bill Rogers had three very good years, and then flamed out. Jordan had three even better years, and then what? We'll see. I simply gave an example of a player who played at the very highest level, relative to his peers, and then couldn't.

As I recall Bill Rogers had a bit of the Duval syndrome. Grind your way to the top and then.....what.... that's all there is? He lost interest in the travel and had a family.

Here's a little perspective on Bill Rogers career. In his first 6 years on tour, he played in 145 tournaments and won ONCE with 8 runner-ups finishes including 4 in one year (not the year he won). The next year he won 4 times along with 1 runner-up in 26 tournaments. For the rest of his career, he won 1 time in 140 events which spanned 7 years.

He won 1 time in 1978, 4 times in 1981, and 1 time in 1983. So it's maybe a little misleading to say that he had 3 very good years and then flamed out. He had ONE very good year and 2 other good years but they were spread part with 6 wins in a six year period. Jordan won 11 times in his first 142 events and had 10 wins in a consecutive 3 year period including 3 majors.

I really hope to see Jordan back in the winners circle and at the top of his game again, as it was exciting to watch. But first, he needs to take ownership of his game and stop blaming his caddy for his poor shots, misread putts, etc. Once he does that, maybe he can make some strides to regain his confidence and get his full game back. He's getting there I think.

He might have been thinking YJS was getting his amateur status back when he typed that. ?

If you assume he makes the President's Cup team, then he only needs one more. Maybe there will be Jordan vs. Patrick this fall as well...

Besides Spieth, it seems like the other big names that don't have a win this season (including the fall last year) are a) Justin Thomas, b) Jason Day, and Adam Scott.

Thomas has been injured part of the season and has won within the last 12 months at this point. Jason Day - say what you want but he did win 2x last year. Adam Scott hasn't won in 3+ years but has been playing better and seems more focused since the PGA last year.

Just given the number of tournaments left this season, it seems likely that some of these people will be winless this season (potentially again). Maybe not a surprise for Scott but the others I think most would have thought one win. At one point, Thomas had supposedly surpassed his buddy Jordan. Maybe he still has but he's not exactly lapping the field as of late...

I know you're probably joking, but just to clarify....team events don't count for the bet mentioned above, I assumed.

this thread has spiraled way out of control. Jordan was the best for a few years. Will he win another major? Yes, he will come back and win another major. Not this year, not next year, so don't get your hopes up. But in a few years, Jordan Spieth will win another major. Good player, Jordan Spieth. Crowded field these days.

the original post was about this.._." Do you guys think Jordan Spieth will bounce back anytime soon or will his slump continue through a good portion of 2019?_

i think for the most part he has struggled thrugh this year but plenty of time to bounce back....as i recently stated, i think he will get 2 wins this year.....> @gvogel said:

I'll take the Spieth will not win twice on the PGA Tour this year side.

There’s problem with that bet anyway. No clear end to the season. Remember. It wraps around. lol. So in theory it’s a infinite amount of time. So I’d take it in those terms !

Besides. He said “ by year’s end “. So it’s at least until dec 31.
