What up with Jordan?

Hi SG stats say otherwise. Driver is absolutely a liability (174th this year, 175th last year), but his irons are only marginally better (120th this year, 145th last year). Factor in short game and SG tee to green is 108th this year and 157th last year. You have almost zero chance of winning with those sorts of ball striking stats, he was actually 2nd in SG putting in 2019. . In 2017 he was 2nd in SG tee to green while being 48th SG putting and won 3 times (including The Open)

Does anyone think that YJS can become a major contender again? If so, under what circumstances? For the weird swing that he already has would Butch be his best option? Or would some other coach be most helpful?

I’m of the opinion that he’ll contend in random tournaments from time to time but, at this point, he’s destined to be a journeyman from here on out.

Maybe in a couple of years I’ll look back on this post and be 100% wrong but who knows. Time will tell.

Ah!, word games good attempt. Still perplexed I see between lost vs altered. Lets see if we can assist with your understanding. Lost means something is totally gone/missing and in reference to golf, that means staying on the pro tour with no swing is futile.............Now altered means that a swing is still functional but has been changed to achieve a desired result. If JS has a lost swing, he would not be shooting scores that show pro quality and cashing checks. Suggest you revisit my post about how all this is just personal opinions and that he may just be fine with what he's doing.......................

It pains me to say this, as a big fan of Jordans, but I think his days of contending on a regular basis may be behind him. With as wild as he can be off the tee and with the longer irons, finding the consistency to be able to put four solid rounds together is proving to not be something hes able to do. Theres been enough of a sample size over the last 2-3 years to say that the game we see is who he is at this point. Until something changes drastically with his long game, I dont see things changing anytime soon.

With all of the ridiculous negativity in this thread, YJS is practically a lock to contend or win this weekend. He's still young - he'll figure it out.

Spieth was hitting 175mph ball speed off the driver the other week. Assuming that is accurate, the dude was crushing it. Still won't help the rough issues, but he certainly wasn't short.

Not at all a fan of Jordans I do not share that opinion. If he finds a consistency off tee he will be deadly again I think. That might require him from being a score prioritizer to a swing prioritizer for a longer period, but I have consistently seen his long play as his weakness even though his putting is up and down. And with the swing quirkyness there seems to be room for improvements. I do not say that a quirky swing is bad, Furyk probably had(has) the highest low-level in swinging in PGA history. But quirky and not consistently straight is no great combination

if Spieth used TM drivers he would be "20 yards further".....

Sometimes change is good to break up stale complacent relationships.....JS may need a change based on that alone...

If Bones was any good, phil would have 10 majors......just sayin

It is funny how opinions around here are laughed at,,,,,,,

I think the tour NEEDS Spieth to be great again....but it is weird how he seems old already....

No we agree, I basically said the same thing in my post, I think his problem is pretty obvious that hes too wild off the tee to post consistent scores. If he can get it straightened out and not be punching out of the trees constantly, he will surely find himself in contention alot more than he has been in recent years.

Okay I’m the biggest Spieth fan on earth every Thursday the last two years I get some blind hope that this is gonna be the week he at least looks like he belongs in contention but after today I just give up. He can’t even hit the center of the clubface. The par on opening hole was unacceptable and then he is in the middle of the fairway great drive on the par 5 on his second 9 and hits this inexcusable hook 3 wood on the short side of the hole HOW DO YOU LET THAT HAPPEN? It’s really hard being a Spieth fan. Hos swing just is not looking good any technical guys want to tell me why he can’t hit ball right? Looks like he’s got the Yips he’s so uncomfortable over the ball.

I really like Jordan, and also think he was really good for the game. When I watched him in 2014-2017, I remember saying to myself that making every putt like he did at the time was not a recipe for longevity. I wasn't thinking he was a bad ball striker, but he was shorter than average and not that tight with his irons. Chickens were gonna come roost, and they did. And now he's a way worse ball striker. His good putting as of late isn't going to save him anymore, and with age he'll putt worse. If history is any guide that is. IMO he'll have to do a Stenson/Faldo and rebuild his entire swing if he will ever contend consistently again. His motion is bad and was always bad, but youth, confidence and putting made him great. Those days are over and will not return. Sad for me as I think he's a stellar golf ambassador, but nonetheless true. If he stays with McCormick and stays with the terrible motion he has he'll never get better. And his confidence will drop and his putting will get bad. My hope is that he figures it out 'cuz i like the kid.

Now, I did say back in the day that Shawn Bradley would be better than Shaq in the NBA. So, obviously, I could be wrong.
