What up with Jordan?

What happened with Jordan and Xander Sunday is indicative of how hard it is to win on the big Stage.  James Hahn wilted under that pressure cooker as well.   Its why guys look Brook rises to the occasion.  The guy who only shows up for majors has an axe to grind this year.

Winning on tour is hard. You have to have a lot things go right. You have to play well. You have to get a couple of breaks. You have to have others not play well. The average score was -2 in the final round. If Spieth or Schauffele shoot the average round Koepka doesn't win. Just the nature of the game.

Frankly, you can't be sure if this was the best tournament of the year for Spieth because golf works that way as well. Play well one week than you don't hear from someone for a while.

That is one of the things that make it great. Right now the consecutive cuts is at 24 right now. Compare that to Woods at 142 and you get a whole different appreciation. Tom Kite's 53 is pretty interesting because that only went from 1980 to 1982.

Jordan 173mph ball speed on 18th hole Pebble tee shot.  I've never seen Jordan above 170.  It's a good sign.  He is scoring again. -7  easy peezy.

He was last week as well. Several drives I saw were at around 175. He has never been slow (ball speed) can’t say the same for pace of play though..

From what I saw of it yesterday, it seemed like a relatively stress free round of Golf for Jordan. Yes, there were some misses but every round ever has them. Seemed like he never got himself into any real trouble and there was no sign of any absolute foul balls which we have become all to accustomed to when watching him.

Definitely a positive. Hoping that the positives keep stacking up.

Is the Venus Blue closer to the old Rogue Black?  He is hitting it farther than 5 years ago but wondering if he has moved away from the "big boy" shafts (trying to kill all spin) into something that matches up better with his natural swing/feel.  Last time he won was with a 915 D2.  Most would consider that a horrible club by today's standards...

Actually the ventus line is pretty “ big boy “. It’s not boardy , but it’s not a spiny shaft by any stretch.  You have to swing it in an X to load it.  100 % stiffer than the rogue he used to play.  Which in my opinion is a very smooth shaft.

Gotcha.  I am not current on the most recent shafts out there.  I do know the rogue black is quite soft/smooth relatively speaking (to most of the things these guys would play).  I once had someone give me a "low-low" shaft to try and reduce spin but it didn't work very well.  A few shots were great but overall it didn't match up with how I swung (or at least what I was accustomed too.  Possible I could have got used to it had I not given up).

I do agree he looks better standing over the ball and his iron game is back.  Will be interesting how he does at the next tournament that is more demanding off the tee.  I.e. Torrey it he looked like the same as the last couple of years.  WMO and this week are not as tough (not to diminish a win - you still need to beat other great players any week on tour).

My yardstick is still whether he gets to 20 wins / 5 majors.  Time will tell but hopefully he will be in the mix at some big ones again.
