2020 Genesis Invitational (Tiger goes for #83 again)

Good to see Adam Scott back to winning ways.

Despite the poor Sunday for Rory his start to this season is an indication that he is continuing on from last year. Almost all of his numbers/stats are scary good even after just 4 events and it bodes very well.

Interesting but not unexpected Tiger stated he will likely play the same number of events as last year. It appears approx. 12 will be his new normal. He should maintain a relatively high OWGR but seems highly unlikely he will ever return to No.1, just wont play enough for that.

Good win for Scotty. The win back on 2005 always annoyed me as big fan of Scott that it was never credited as an official win, now he has it and it’s great to see him back in the winners enclosure on the big Tour.

That was poor last round Rory, what’s going on their. Some very sloppy play and putter was cold.

Well done to Adam Scott,if his putting matched his ball striking instead of putting like us 10 handicappers or worse ?, he would be one of the all time greats.

Love watching his ball strking in slow-mo

Please. Adam took the broomstick, made the adjustment to conform, and is now excelling at it. What he did with his putter is probably just as difficult as a major swing change....and he was 31st in SG: Putting last year and is top 15 so far this year. If Adam putts like this all season he's going to be in contention for a major before the year is out.

So many times I have played some of my best rounds of the year after a winter break. Scott takes two months off and does the same thing.

Tiger on his putting, “I didn’t have a feel for it, I didn’t see my lines, I couldn’t feel my pace and I was just off.” Sounds age related. He is right at the point in age where concentration starts to go.

Tigerrrrrr, he goin bulkin

https://www.golf.com/news/2020/02/17/tiger-woods-weight-too-light-genesis/

“I’m a little bit light for me right now, which I don’t really like,” Woods said. “I like being a little lighter, but not quite this light, so [i’m] going to get in there and start eating a lot, start training.”

“I’m going to start training right away, start training tomorrow and getting after it,” Woods said of his plans for his week off. “Try to put a little bit of weight on.”

Exactly how will Woods accomplish his goal of “putting weight on”?

“Eating. Protein shakes and lifting and maintaining the muscle mass.

Not sure why, he won 4 majors in a row stringbean like,

Either Tiger is one of the most “open” golfers when it comes to his feelings, or he has a ton of excuses. Or perhaps, he is just interviewed way too much and talks a lot of nonsense.

Glutes not firing

Back stiff

Couldn’t find the green speed

Feeling too light

Feeling too heavy

Couldn’t find my feels

Hit it great, made nothing

and on, and on, and on.

Props to TW’s people to snag the Genesis and turn it into his tournament and an invitational. That’s making lemonade out of lemons as really the only “excuse” he needs for Riveria is that he just can’t play that course well. Period.

Just got back from a week of volunteering. Watch tiger's nice eagle on 1 today, though Finau lob was really nice. Best shot I saw all day was dahman at 15.

Course is just plain tough. I'm a bogey golfer, and the few times I've played it's just been a long slog. Not that I'll ever turn down an invite!

As for ?, his problems at Riviera are encapsulated by his approached at 15 on Thursday. After splitting the fairway 335 yards , he dumps a wedge in the front greenside bunker. Fried egg. Double. Can't make unforced errors like that and expect to win.

Think of Tiger as some retired guy who happens to be able to be pretty good at golf.....

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/tiger-tracker-postscript-woods-finishes-dead-last-riviera

"Here’s how he summed it up: “Well, I did not do much well today,” he said. “Good news, I hit every ball forward, not backwards, a couple sideways. But overall, I'm done.” He was also asked if a weekend like this bothers him a little less than it used to, which provided an interesting look at how he views this post-fusion chapter of his career: “Well, considering the fact that I look at it – that this part of my career really didn't exist a few years ago. So to be able to do that no matter what I shoot – it's still disappointing, it's still frustrating, I'm still a little ticked – but I also look at it from a perspective which I didn't do most of my career. I have a chance to play going down the road. A few years ago, that wasn't the case.”

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/run-down-tiger-woods-skipping-wgc-mexico-championship-i-wasnt-going-be-ready

'Run-down' Tiger Woods on skipping Mexico: 'I wasn't going to be ready'

“I just felt like I wasn’t going to be ready for next week,” he said. “I’m a little run-down, and playing at altitude as well isn’t going to help that. So take the week off.”

Though Woods has played sparingly over the past two months, he’s had more obligations than usual. He was the host of his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, then immediately assumed the role of playing captain at the Presidents Cup, where he led the Americans to a stirring comeback victory with a 3-0 record.

After shelving the clubs for a few weeks around the holidays, Woods ramped up again for the start of the calendar year, then finished in a tie for ninth at Torrey Pines. Woods has had off the past two weeks in advance of this week’s Genesis Invitational, where he’s the tournament host.

“There’s a lot this week, but that’s one of the things I know going into any event I’ve hosted,” he said. “And unfortunately, I’ve hit a lot of shots, so that adds to it, adds to the frustration, I’m sure.”

When asked if he was feeling OK this week, Woods said: “I feel stiff, but I have weeks like that, especially in the cold mornings like it was the other day. Don’t quite move as well, and that’s just kind of how it’s going to go.”

“That’s the fun part of trying to figure out this whole comeback – how much do I play, when do I play, do I listen to the body or do I fight through it?” he said. “There are some things I can push, and some things I can’t.

“I had a theory this year that I may play about the same amount (14 events total in 2019), and so that’s kind of my number for the year. I can’t play a lot more than that just because of the physical toll, and I want to stay out here for just a little bit longer.”

Interesting article regarding the coverage of the final round. I didn't get to watch it but apparently it was terrible.

@bscinstnct 3rd in 4th round scoring sounds impressive, but how many tournaments has he let slip away after being in the final round on Sunday? Actually it's not even the fact he doesn't win, it's the manner of the losses. Meek capitulations where he plays tight, tense golf, makes stupid mistakes and misses straightforward putts. Yesterday was a classic example, as was Augusta in 2018.
He does get it done on occasion, usually when he's less invested in the result. Last year's Canadian Open was a good example when he was imperious in the final round. With some tournaments though, he just cares too much and seizes up.
