It seemed to me Tiger's swing was a little off after the drive on 9, gave it a little extra to carry the trap and then proceeded to hit a bunch of poor shots. Still he managed to rank #1 in strokes gained approach for the day downside he was 118th in driving.

Maybe a case of getting used to the new SiM driver? Jason Day is sticking with the M5 (for now at least). Tiger's driving was the best in recent years with the M5, hate to see a switch for contract sake only....

Or it was simply just a bad 9 holes of driving by Tiger. He hit 6/7 fairways on his first 9 holes and 1/7 on his second 9 holes. Stuff happens. FWIW Day was 5/14 fairways hit in the first round. DJ was 6/14. Brooks hitting the Mavrik was also 6/14.

I would agree they have a crap deal, but to roll out the "hey, here's a preview of our subscription service" when that would generally be the only way to watch that part of the event seems like they are trying to get me to buy into it. The TV contracts that have just been signed make me fear that this is just going to be more of what's to come. We are going to have more commercials, more cut away time for sponsors, more play through, more of coverage not going through to the end of an event, and really just less actual golf. Outside of paying for add on streaming stuff, which isn't even a complete solution at this point, golf is harder to watch on TV than it has ever been.

FWIW, some of the locals in the Torrey Pines Men's Club I play with say the POA greens are like putting on broccoli. It's actually a pretty accurate description at a micro level. I don't find them too bad perhaps because I can't putt anyway. I just volunteered at the Farmers on 13 North. When the greens were rebuilt about 3 years ago now they were planted with bent grass and flawless. But they are roughly 15~20% POA now which is inevitable since it is really just an invasive weed that can't be stopped. I got down on my knee and rubbed my hand along the green and when it hit a patch of POA, you could see and feel how it mounds up in the afternoon - really obvious.

This is the first year it has had enhanced status. It now has a smaller field and a larger purse, and the winner gets a 3-year exemption instead of the usual 2 years. Bay Hill and Memorial are the only other PGA events with this status.
