How come so many golfers on here it driver 300yds +

Baddog

Recommended Posts

There are quite a few "very good" golfers on here; high level junior amateurs, college players, mini tour players, even a few past and present "big tour" players lurk in the shadows and @ times, post.

There are long drive competitors on here as well.

PGA Tour Average Driving Distance shows 83 players @ 300 or beyond, and remember they only measure on 2 holes per round going opposite directions relative to the wind, or at least as closely as possible.

There are another almost 90 players above 290.

So, 300 yard drives are not only possible, they're relatively commonplace in today's advanced level game.

Exactly but back in the persimmon and balata days I could not spell fairway much less find one. Yep back in those days I could hit it 280 290 but had no idea where it was going. I honed my get out of jail skills with a 5 iron in those days. At 63 years old now and fat I do not turn as well as I used to and only carry a modern metal about 240 or so. Now when the fairways get dried out I can hit my stinger and roll it out around 250 260 max. I still play persimmon quite a bit and only carry the lumber around 210 or so now. If I hit the stinger on dry fairways it rolls more than the modern metal does and can run out about 235 or so. But I am straighter than I have ever been and hit more fairways and GIR than I ever did. Now if I could only putt like I used to. I also plot and think my way around the golf course better than I used to guess I have gotten older and wiser. Like my friend Robot Doctor says I like playing and sometimes beating these whippersnappers that blow it past me 50 or 60 yard. Sometimes I don't beat them but it is fun when I do

LOL The proper term that is if you want to be PC is "Seasoned Citizens" Me I could give 2 hoots less if someone refers to me as an Old F A R T or an Old Coot--- Now out of respect someone I did not know i would not call them that but would refer to them respectfully as " well this guy is a little older than me or around my age" whatever the case may be. Like I could care less what someone calls me just do not call me late to play golf or eat and my SS check better not be late----- Now Get off my lawn!!!

That pic looks to be on #18 at River Oaks with the tee marker and condos in the background. If so @ 300 yds if you had the draw on it had a flip 60 into the green. Or with a cut darn near in the right trap or a bump and run up the collar. A little more right and yo were either in the trap or the water

Prefer to think of myself as a "Veteran Young Guy". Seasoned Citizens are those older than me. Perhaps one of these days I'll become old, but don't have the time or inclination for that now. Creaky knees the first couple steps in the morning withstanding.

I'm lucky, seem to be well preserved and holding my own. Listening to loud R & R music keeps me young. "Keep on Dancing" while closing in on 69.

And no, never hit a 300yard drive. Not even close. Now happy with something over two hundy and in the fairway. And never check my GPS gizmo for verification.

Yep, I play often with an impressive 67 year old golfer, about 5'7" but keeps himself in a great shape, very limber. Loves his Captain & Diet Cokes. He regularly carries his drives around 280 yards or so, can hit total drives of 300 yards once or twice a round. Yes, he outdrives me everytime but the total score matters more to me.

Perhaps the more telling tale is that it's assumed that the OP's motivation for his comments are jealousy. What makes you think that just because he or I don't hit it 300 yards that automatically means we want to trade places with those that do?

I've only ever played with two who I saw hit drives 300 in the flesh. Man that's a long way! One young guy in his late 20's and the other fellow was probably 50, a big dude. Both very flexible and athletic. Impressive; yes, but I kinda like my life as it is thank you very much and if that means I only hit the ball 200 or so off the tee that's okay. At least I can still play the game and not being able to play at all would be a real tragedy!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

The courses you play make a difference too.

I tend to play ones that are over 7000 yards at the “tips” where one is over 7400 yards. I don’t play the tips even though I carry about 255-260, but there are plenty of longer hitters that do. Therefore, I am seeing a relatively higher number of 300+ yard hitters.

On the flip side, if I played a 5500-6400 yard course at the tips for 30 years, I would not expect to see many 300 yard hitters at all. Longer hitters tend to enjoy playing longer courses without the worry of dogleg OB or hazards at 300 yards.

I hit it 300+....once lol

Downwind on #18 at Royal Dornoch. Was glorious...last hole of a Scottish trip.

Striped it right down the magic slot...which for me and my 96-98 swing would normally be ~260 with decent roll.

Wind was behind & firm course. I had 95 in on a 440 yard hole ?

Played with a 16 year old about 3 years go. Get to the 18th hole, 330 up hill par four. Runs parrallel to the driving range. He puts his first tee shot on the tee box of the driving range at over 320 away. He hits his third on the green, misses the 12 footer and walks away with a bogey.

Also played with a tour player a few months ago. His drives? I didn't know a golf ball could be hit that far! His tee shots sounded like an explosion. It was a blast to watch him play.

when these threads pop up it always amazes me how few guys know or play with longer hitters

we have 10 guys over 40 at our club that can still swing 110 and carry it 275 in the summer, one guy is 65 and does this

it must be the circle of guys you regularly play with

if you play in any high level Am or Mid Am events everybody is 300 nowadays,,,,,,,

D1 and d2 ,,, all bombers .. my nephew and his buddies ... ETC ETC. And lots of these guys are SMALL. 5’8 and 140 lbs ... think Justin Thomas

For a male touring professional 107 chs isn't too great. For an amateur 107 is tremendous! My current chs is around 103-104. I can throttle up to 109 or so but why? Of course I am 55 and my chs is lower than it used to be about 30 years ago. Getting older isn't always a great thing. Sarcastically, yes!!!! Physically, NO!

I know 3 guys that I have played with that are legitimate 300+. One guy I thought was all talk until I played with him. He hits it a solid 340 off the tee. Occasionally, he might land it on the same continent, but most are. I'm waiting for the first time his back blows up and then see how far he hits it after that.

I used to be able to move it out there and creep around the 300 mark, but not any more. Might actually get a fitting for my driver this year and see if I can pick up 10 yrds or more with a better head/shaft combo. At sea level and around 85° F, I can still get it out there around 265 carry, but I've got to activate my glutes to get it.

Well I listen to R&R too mostly beach music now with oldies sprinkled in---- It sorta shocks people with me being a truck driver listening to R&R. I called myself back in the day the original R&R trucker. Remember man you are never too old to rock and roll

No doubt on both accounts. 107 chs is nothing to sneeze at. Have to do a lot of things right to get that speed. You should see what that chs would do for you at higher altitude, like Colorado. It's a sight to behold!!!
