Fox ending USGA contract, US Open will be on NBC

Miller was the best. Fox was really bad from Norman to Sonders and her sexual qualifying comments/asking Spieth if he brought a shirt for monday as the first thing out of her mouth to him as he won.

I'll admit I did not read the article. From what was posted here it said that NBC paid half of what Fox was for the rights. That doesn't mean that the USGA only got half, they may have exercised a buyout clause in the Fox contract and got paid to some extent or percentage there too.

Miller rarely brought it up on his own. The others on the telecasts brought it up frequently. It's a thing people like to say.

USGA press release says they are getting paid the full amount of their original deal. It appears that FOX is eating 50% of the annual cost to get out of this deal, and NBC is gladly paying the other 50%.

 

"While the details are confidential, the term of the agreement between NBCUniversal and the USGA will be the same as the previous agreement with FOX Sports, carrying through December 31, 2026, and the financial remuneration for the USGA will remain the same for the duration of the agreement." This sucks. I was a huge skeptic of Fox when they first got the contract, but was very pleasantly surprised at how much they improved and the job they eventually did.

 

Not looking forward to more Dan Hicks and NBC trying to play Tom Rinaldi piano music stories at every turn.

John Feinstein (he was just offering an opinion to the question asked as he was at GC for a while) said in a radio interview today that Fox wanted out and USGA was not real happy with Fox's coverage of their events. I think it was a mutual parting of company. NBC wanted USGA events back badly. They are the winners here.

UK based so we have the Fox pictures with Sky commentators over the top. There definitely seemed to more golf and less fluff pieces with Fox but Sky seem to insulate us from the best and the worst of the US network excesses so same old, same old for us I guess.

Lol. I don’t recall him bringing it up, but others did, along with numerous comments about various other standout accomplishments JM achieved. I get how some found him annoying but I always thought he was the best announcer. Would love to have him back but I frankly don’t think he has the energy or desire at this point.

NBC Evening news tonight announced the new deal with USGA.

They followed it up with a remote @home Dan Hicks interview. He highlighted WF history and working the last WF Open in 2006.

Interestingly, NBC view was that the USGA canceled the contract with Fox and then signed with NBC.
