Callaway Bertha B21 line

Specs for the irons are interesting. Narrative around maverick max was that more loft was needed in that category. These appear to skew even further than max but offer less loft. They look chunky so I’m sure they will fly high and long.

I like how the front of the face is deep but don't care for the elongated look when you address the ball

I do love the shallow face on the fairway woods. Looks like those would be extremely easy to launch.

Looks like a solid offering. It will be interesting to see the sales split between this and mavrik max as they must be targeting very similar players. I'm thinking the majority of players in this category aren't all that discerning and cosmetics may play a larger role in purchase decision than the actual difference between the two club lines.

They look great, I'll be looking to upgrade my woods/hybrid in the winter and these look like good offerings. The ability to continuously help stop my slice will be a huge factor.

I want to say at least going back to the Steelhead XRs they went back to the bore through design for some of the models.

These woods could be a great fit for many. Before all drivers with an offset anti right profile had to sacrifice distance due to excessive spin.This will give golfers that dont need spin an option that helps with a slice. 

 

Sure not many WRX's will need that buck many a recreational golfer will.

Just watched a review from a guy who plays the Mavrik SZ. He was very impressed with the look, sound, feel, and numbers he got. I'd like to see it side by side with the Mavrik Max for size comparison. This could be a huge hit for Callaway in a large segment of recreational golfers.

It baffles me releasing a max forgiveness line with a $500 Driver but with a $899 set of irons when you already have probably the best max forgiveness line they've had in years with the Mavrik Max's

This is for specific golfer.  One thing for sure, this is going to work.  I can totally see golfers making the irons, hybrids, etc.  these into a combo set of some type into other parts of Callaway's line.  It's a good time to release a SGI line since there is some season left and fall golf coming.

#1 really glad Callaway is continuing with it's adapter, unlike some other OEM recently. Ping.

 

#2 really glad to see a low profile fairway wood. Might be time to replace my Diablo Tour head. One of the best looking & sounding fairway woods

 

#3 Really like the way Callaway finished the B21. It looks sleek and nice without the goudy colors of late. I'll try this before the Mavrik Max, plus lower spin.

 

IMO, more positive in this B21 than Mavri. Good job Callaway!

I don’t understand what Callaway is doing. I understand this release isn’t necessarily for me but still... Maybe it’s coming off Taylor Mades recent great release but still it’s more random releases from Callaway....

Does this replace Mavrik line?
Its certainly not as nice looking as the previous Big Bertha irons but they’re cheaper. 
This looks like maybe a quasi replacement for XR Speed as a Dicks Sporting goods offering but is Driver lower price point. 
 

I just wish Callaway would tidey up their offerings. Feels like Taylor Made after being so off has really turned things around lately while Callaway is throwing things up against the wall.

I wouldn't be surprised if a large part of their rationale is name recognition.  Lots of folks coming back to the game right now because COVID cancelled their adult soccer league or whatever.  I suspect a lot of those folks last played regularly back in the days of the OG Big Berthas, and it's been a while since Callaway had a full line of Big Bertha clubs.  I can see these selling very well and not really cannibalizing other sales, even if there's a good amount of overlap with other current Callaway products.  Lots of folks walking into Dick's and walking out with a full bag of Big Berthas, without giving it much thought.

This had to be in the works long before COVID. Agree that it is well timed with a lot of new/returning golfers but there is no way they created & launched an entire product line in the March-August time frame.  This has probably been in the works a lot longer, especially as the BB irons were due for a replacement anyway, and I think they realized that most buyers of SGI clubs aren't willing to pay what they were asking for the last version.

The driver appears to be an evolution of the Fusion driver of a few years ago.

 

If so, it may be sprinkled with the Fusion’s pixie dust.

 

The Fusion was pigeon-holed as an old hacker’s driver. I may qualify for that,  but when I tried one it was the perfect combination of forgiveness, low spin, high launch, and thus distance. 
 

Up there with the LTD, Epic and other faves.

 

A thread I started about it here three years ago is still going strong.

Didn't the Mavrick line just come out this year? What will this do to their sales as I thought the Mavrick was the best Callaway has ever came out with and now Bertha is back. What is this supposed to do that would be better than the Mavrick.
