Disappointed with Callaway- Caved X Hot Pro

Recommended Posts

I have had a Cally Xot Pro 3 wood since launch. That said I only really used it for one season before switching to Ping. For a change I decided to take it to the range last week. After about the 20th ball, the sound changed. I looked down to see a crack on the face.
I realise this is an old(ish) club but it has only seen one season of play.
So I took it to American Golf who spoke to Cally. Basically I’m SOL as it’s out of warranty. I totally get that they have no obligation to do anything. But I would think the golf clubs are meant to last far longer than a few years. I’m also disappointed Cally won’t do more to look after their customers.
Anyway rant over. My ping g2 is still going strong. Go Ping!!

I'm quite surprised that American Golf said that Callaway can't be able to help you.  Callaway is known for their stellar customer service that rivals to that of Ping.  I suggest you take this issue directly to Callaway to confirm.  I wouldn't be surprised if they offered you a current model 3 wood to replace it.  Obviously you would have to pay out of your own pocket to ship it to them.

Do you realize the Xhot was a 2012-13 release. I highly doubt any manufacturer will warranty a piece of equipment for 8 years, even if not played often.

This is what I was thinking. If I read the post right he has had it since launch.. so he has got his money out of it.

You can pick up a used one for under $100.  Don't knock Callaway for not warranting a 8 year old fairway wood.  I think Callaway has proven over the years that their CS is one of the best in golf.

I wouldn't expect a company to warranty an 8yr old club and as others have said that clubface looks beat to hell. I've had 3 woods I've used for 5+ years 50 rounds a year that have less face wear than that. If you used that for one season you must play on baseball infields

Umm yah

I don't know how it's come to be expected that an 8 year old club needs to be replaced under warranty

I think that's getting a little unreasonable

and I agree, I dunno where you play, but there is a ton of wear on that for one season if that's all you used it for

That face does not look like the face of a club that was played for one season unless you’re a range rat or in the desert. Half the paint fill is gone and it’s pretty marked up.  But that’s neither here nor there. I personally wouldn’t expect a company to replace an 8 year old club. Maybe a small credit towards a new one or something.

Agreed. Either every single ball you've ever hit with it was covered in sand or you have put FAR more than the average amount of single season wear on it.

Yes that's crazy to think it should be covered under warranty.  Do you expect an 8yr old car that is 4yrs out of warranty to be covered also??

Well... cars are expected to break.  Golf clubs, not so much.  It's rare for golf clubs to break.  At least modern metal ones.  The wooden ones used to break quite a bit if you missed the center by that much with a high swing speed.

FFS! It's an 8 year old club that you've been hitting balls with for 8 years. It look's like it's been played more than you claim as well. Did you buy it used?

Some people feel entitled I guess.

I personally would just think " Well, that's a bummer. Time to shop for a new 3 wood".

The balls on Callaway to not send you a new Mavrik for your troubles!!

And I know how ya feel there sport, I dropped my Apple iphone 4s the other day and the damn screen broke! What a POS Apple makes, but the worse part is how they won't send me a new 12 Pro as compensation and a solution to my VERY pressing issue, my raging narcissism.

Hmmm, I have three Callaway X Hot hybrids I play and I wonder if I damage the face of each of them Callaway will give me a brand new set of 3? The OP may be onto something. Actually, when I enlarge the photo you have attached I see a bunch of pit marks around the heel of the club which makes me wonder what you have been hitting?
