How deeeeeep is the talent pool?????

Granted, this did not occur on Tour, though Jhared Hack is a mini-tour Player, probably one of the top 3000-3500 Players on earth, and no, at 6339yds, along with a Par 72, the Las Vegas Golf Club ain't exactly up to Tour standards, however a 57 is a friggin 57, and that is some SERIOUS golf!!! He made the turn at 10 under(26)😜🤪!!
 

Hack carded 10 birdies, 3 eagles and a bogie during a skins match for the 57. He won a measly $220, lol. That is a shame that he wasn't in a big game🤷🏻‍♂️

 

It's not like the Hackster doesn't have game as he spanked both Rickie and Dustin in match play as a 17yo Am to win the Uber Prestigious Western Amateur(2007). He then turned professional and spent a few years on the Korn Ferry Tour though he's had no status there since 2018. To augment his income, he combines caddying at Shadow Creek along with giving short-game lessons while still playing in mini-tour events in the Nevada/Cali/Arizona area and state opens. 

These are the kind of Players that @Obee, @isaacbm, @rangersgoalie, @nikegal and @Shilgy are speaking of when they talk about just how deep the talent pool is out there!!

Seriously though, for Ams, I always use Nathan(currently #1004 world wide, #237 Senior Am) or Sean(currently #1812 world wide, #412 Senior Am) as a barometer then guesstimate from there and for Pros, I just combine the total number of Card carrying members of the various Tours then lump guys like the Hackster somewhere in a grouping after all the card carrying Big Dogs, alternates, next up, etc.

 

Maybe that kid in the Ryder Cup thread is correct, I'm full of sh*t😜🤪😂😂!

It’s deeper than you think And there are pockets where it’s deeper. In my county alone I have the #29 ranked player on earth , and his brother. And I hear there’s a 3rd one coming who might be the best .  Imagine teeing it up at your local City or county am and having a top 30 am guy on earth in the field. Lol. Every time.  Been this way here for a long time in upstate sc.  the number of tour guys that has come from this half of the state is nuts considering how small it is in area.

I was telling Richard and Maddie a story about a skins game I played at Papago, a muni  in Phoenix some years back. 
   Guy shows  up wearing a pink Scooby Doo muscle shirt and cargo shorts. , Shoots 62, wins  zero skins, And then whines the whole night while he has to clean up the cart barn and pick the range.  That place was a disaster for the fish… and a fish was anyone that couldn’t go 5 deep in their sleep with money on the line. 
    That place is a little fancier now that ASU uses it as their practice facility but it was pretty fun in the old days when you could show up in cut off Jean shorts and try and pick up a game for cash! 
    A buddy of mine won $400 in an arm wrestle on the putting green! 
    Good times!

I grew up playing that golf course. It was known as "Muni" back then.   It is exceeding flat and usually played very firm.  Par 5s are extremely getable.  The back nine is harder than the front.  One of the guys I used to played against in high school named Monte Money (classic Las Vegas name) shot something like 60 on it, back in the early 70's.  I think they have done some renovations on it in recent years.

Here is another example of just how stupidly deep professional golf is these days…..

 

After crunching the numbers the past two years, the average winning score for a PGA Tour Monday qualifier in 2018 and 2019 was 64.54 and 64.66, respectively. The average of the person earning the last spot those two years was only about two strokes higher and 66.54 and 66.42. And out of the 24 qualifiers last year, incredibly, three times a 64 was needed just to make it through.
