Walking in the rain

I was planning on walking 18 as soon as my nurse wife gets home from work in about 20 minutes..  Looks like I got light steady shower from this dang hurricane for the next several hours. I don't really have golf rain gear, but I really don't care - I haven't hit a ball in nearly two weeks for various reasons and I've been targeting this window since Wednesday when league was cancelled for the other tropical storm. Temps are fine at 81 and should hold high 70s before end of round.

 

Do it? or will I be terribly regretting it within a few holes?

Damp course or light rain is better walking than cart. Cart just a hassle, distraction.

I'll play in very light drizzle, but nothing with more than annoyance potential.

Unless on overseas golf vacay or a tourney, then you kind of don't have a choice.

I'll look at the radar and if looks like it's going to clear I have no problem starting in the rain.

I only get certain windows too with a wife and 2 kids being my priority, so when I get chance, I play. I played in sideways rain last week (I am in the UK so this is common). My general rule is, if I don't play in the rain, especially in this country, then I don't get to play, end of. Got to take your chance 😄 take a towel in the car and a new shirt, dry off and drive home. Easy.

I don't mind playing in light rain, but if it's a steady downpour in which I'll need rain gear, rain gloves, and an umbrella to survive then I tend to pass. Of course the exception being if it's a tournament/competition or if I'm on some sort of golf trip and I won't have the chance to play that course again.

 

That being said, I prefer to ride if it's raining. Yes it may be cart path only, but my club has the rain hoods on all of our carts so at least I don't have to worry about keeping my bag dry along with myself. One less thing to worry about in my opinion. 

 

If I had to walk in the rain there is no way I'm doing it without a good set of rain gear.

A story only a GolfWRXer could have...

 

Teed off in the rain, it REALLY picked up on the first hole as a heavy band came through and i was absolutely drenched.. stood under a tree for 10 minutes left of the fairway until the rain let up a bit..  it was just a light, manageable rain the rest of the way.

 

Grinded 5 bogeys in a row, then a double..  Not my best effort going on, but at least I was getting the exercise I was looking for.

Then on the 7th I made a 20 footer for par.. my first par of the round.. Okay.. 

Then on the par 3 8th, I hit a 7 iron 6 feet above the hole, birdie down.. Okay.

On a tough par 4 9th, I hit a 5-iron 12 feet pin high, left the birdie an inch short, but par Okay.

 

6 more pars on the back (3 more birdie chances from 10-15 feet that didn't go down), +3.

 

39 personal best for 9 holes.  81 personal best round all-time.

 

Walking in the rain is okay.

I play rain or shine. 

 

Bring a towel, umbrella, push cart helps if you have one to mount your umbrella and hang a towel.

 

Rain gear is over rated if its warm out.

My gang golfs in the rain unless its really really raining hard. Frozen dew too.

I play in rain, that is why i have the gear. JAcket, gloves, bucket hat, umbrella and cover for my clubs. You have to embrace it, love it not be grumpy.

Our greenskeeper would murder you if you played on those greens with frost.

Just play. Its only rain. 

 

I play 9 holes on a Thursday evening and 18 on Sunday afternoon. 

So far this month, I've only managed 2 rounds that haven't had rain at some point. 

 

I'd much rather play golf in the rain, than not play at all.

If the wind isn’t strong enough to ruin an umbrella then I’m in. 
 

Skip the rain gear, towel hanging under the umbrella, 4-5 gloves, waterproof shoes, maybe a light jacket if it’s cold. 
 

Had the course to myself or almost empty quite a few times just after heavy rain. Love those times

We play in frozen rain in the PNW. 3 putts are common.

I loved playing in the rain when I was a kid (as long as I had rain gloves). Maybe I'll regret this statement but I'm really quite excited to play in the rain this winter.

 

It's a bit lonely, all you can hear is the rain, and you get to play some shots you normally wouldn't. Full rain gear and waterproof shoes are a must

The worst part about rain is getting wet. And once you're wet, you're wet. Don't mind playing in the rain at all and I rarely use anything besides an umbrella when I do, if that even. Once you decide to not worry about the rain, it can be rather pleasant actually. 

 

Brining a change of socks/shoes/hat or even a full change of clothes for the drive home wouldn't be a bad idea though.

Playing in the rain includes a different level of concentration. When we played in college, we played in every condition to get pulled off the course for one occasion - sleet storm. 

 

Have yourself a great rain suit (do not skimp with "good" rain suit)

Bucket hat

Waterproof shoes

Regular towel with additional towel tucked in the bag - attempt to keep it dry as possible.

Shamwow towel or some other shammy synthetic towel.

Umbrella -  drape the shammy over a few of the ribs

extra clothes to change into once done

All weather synthetic glove ( a leather glove turns into a slick mess)
