Best Mid-Budget 3 Wood ($150-200)

Recommended Posts

I've been using my 3 wood off the tee a lot lately (because my driver hates me). Looking for a reasonable upgrade in the $150-200 range.  Currently playing a Titleist 980F. Yes, very old but still a great stick. I just know I'm giving up some tech advantage.

DR: PXG 0811X Gen4 9*

FW: Titleist 917F2 15*

2I: Mizuno MP FliHi 18*

Irons: Titliest DCI 981 3-PW (Mizuno MP 14 3-PW)
Wedges: Cleveland 588 RTG 56* + 60*

Perhaps consider upgrading your Sumo SQ driver instead?

Haha. That's a done deal. PXG Gen4 on its way.

There's some Callaway Maverik 3W's on there in "like new" condition for ~$140.

As of now this is probably on top of the list. I've never had Callaway anything.

PXG 0211 is a great fairway and a smoking hot price!

Last generation Taylormade Sim Ti Fairways about 200 used now.  Incredible heads. Bought the 3 wood first then got the 5 wood both are excellent love the diamana limited that comes with it.

Can’t agree with this enough. Especially if you plan on using it off the tee. I picked up a SIM ti 3 wood with a LIN-Q purple shaft in perfect condition for just under 200 off the bay a couple months ago. It is a bomber and often flirts with my driver distance off the tee. Also is a great club off the turf if I happen to be feeling risky on a long par 5. This is the best choice in that price range in my opinion.

I got my M1 3 wood from Callaway pre owned and it looked like it has barely been hit for $80. You could do well there with $150 in right handed gear.

I just picked up a Homna XP-1 I got off eBay that so far had been solid both off the tee and the deck. But it isn't adjustable, so there is that.

You might get some advantage if the FW were titanium but since most FW today are still stainless steel, there's no advantage.  If there was, then why is TM using 2002 V-Steel technology on their current FW models?

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

The Cobra F9 was the final edition with functional rails for getting through turf. I have the Tour model and it is a great club off the deck and from the tee. Subsequent models hollowed out the rails and made them more shallow. The F9 models are now under $200 new and worth checking out.

This club has worked for me and go ta 3W back in my bag after playing without one for a long time. I get a fairly reliable draw off the tee with this, which makes me welcome dogleg left holes. I have used a couple Pings (410/G) and a TS2 but this one is a little more consistent for my swing.

i built my sim ti 3 wood for a little over $200.  $160 for the head and then $50 for the VTS Red 7x tspx.  This shaft is so awesome for me bc i have a softer transition with fairway woods for some reason.  it's silly long and sounds pretty cool imo too.

Plenty of good options already listed... Sub70 is a favorite of mine, with the added benefit of having it built to your specs... I had a Mavrik 3 wood in my cart but didn't pull the trigger... instead I bought Srixon F85 for $70 on eBay... I've only hit it a couple times, but it's going to work just fine...

I think the key here is to find the shaft you want (I think weight is super important on 3 wood shafts) and then buy that and game whatever head it comes attached to (if you go used)... otherwise, just have Sub70 build one for you.
