A chess player just has to show up and sit it a chair.  You're not going to see a kid run home from his friend's house freaking out over winning a chess match.  However, take that same kid and have him break 80 for 18 holes.  He will be dreaming of winning the Masters and won't shut up for a week.

While I see your point I don't think any of us spends enough time at chess clubs to know if this is actually true, lol

That's my point.  Is there enough care and concern at this forum to launch a small scale discovery exploration into chess clubs?

Ask anyone around here, I've done research for the forum in the past.  I'm all about content.

My friend was looking for a sportsbook to get him winning a major. I asked the above questions and we debated for a bit. In the end we settled on a bet where I have Preston Summerhays vs Charlie to win a PGA tournament first.

It’s not just Charlie’s father who thinks he could have a bright future in the game – the bookmakers suspect he could follow in Tiger’s footsteps and take the game by storm, too. Early in 2022, sports website Bookies.com drew up projected odds on Charlie winning a Major by the age of 30, and arrived at 19/2 (+950).

They never miss an opportunity to make some money. How has Charlie been doing in local/sectional/regional tournaments? I honestly haven't heard a peep but that would tell you a lot.

Do you Charlie haters ever tire of toting this same line? Being who he is and being how Tiger is slowing introducing him to tournament play, he cannot and will not play the crazy rigorous tournament schedule like all the other junior golfer robots. His tournament record at this point is completely irrelevant.

IMHO Tiger did it right, there is zero point pushing kids into single sport athletes/crazy schedules prior to hitting puberty. Tiger was literally that golfer and clearly didn't want to push Charlie down that road. He also probably knew those early year wins had very little to do with his ultimate success as a teen/adult, that developing as a normal kid would have greater long term benefits than beating 7-10 year olds in a meaningless tournament

Asking questions makes me a Charlie hater?

That is a pretty stupid take then. I hope you don't project in your real life with legit questions like that.

It's stupid for grown men to nit pick the amateur record of a child

It's stupid to think he could live the same type of life as any other junior golfer

It's stupid to then draw conclusions about his future success, based on the other 2 stupid things said above

I asked an honest question. I said I haven't been paying attention or heard how he was doing? You loop me in with a hater. What is wrong with that question?

I'm guessing you are one of those wierdo TW fans that have to go to extensive lengths to rationalize everything he does.

If that is really the case, perhaps you are not as stupid as I thought. But that same silly question gets asked/harped on over and over again by clear Charlie haters. There are a handful of very obvious "Florida Junior Golf Dads" who visit the forums and like to poke the bear in any and every Charlie thread.

But it still begs the question, do you think Charlie's tournament record at this point matters? He may or may not become a professional golfer, but if he does, do you really think his pre-puberty tournament record is going to dictate his future success?

Absolutely it matters as a measuring stick. Not necessarily in wins and losses but scoring average. It would probably show you betting on him to win a major would be a silly bet.

Almost time for the PNC Championship!!

I have to admit that watching the PNC, and especially Tiger and Charlie, is one of my favourite Golf tournaments of the year!

Just love to see TW play the role of proud and loving father, and Charlie has so much potential it’s just incredible to watch.

He sounded pretty proud talking about Charlie tonight with Immelmann at the beginning of The Match.   Said Charlie hasn’t beaten him yet, but it’s coming soon.   He added Charlie has out driven him once.   So probably more of that to come as well

He was beaming when talking about how much he enjoys playing with him.

bookmakers don’t make money by predicting things or because they believe something will happen…

they just want to create action with even money in both sides so they can collect a commission/the juice.

i.e. the odds are what they hope will generate even money on both sides of the bet. That is all.

Amazing! Fatherhood is the best job in the World, and it’s so cool seeing Tiger embrace that also. Countdown to the PNC is on…can’t wait!!

He's currently the 4th best ranked junior golfer with the last name Woods, 154th in the 2027 class and 4,173 overall.  Just needs to start playing some more competitive tournaments at longer yardages and he'll climb up the rankings.  Hurricane (HJGT) and Notah Begay events will hurt his rankings down the line. I doubt he'll have to go through the qualification process to get into a lot of premier events that every other kid has to.

Just watched The Match, and made me even more excited for the PNC! Tiger looked really good...wasn't expecting him to play as well as he did considering how little he's been able to play this year.

Should be a fun weekend of Golf coming up!

Charlie was playing tees 150 yards forward until recently

when he gets a legit plus 4 off 7000 yard tees and or wins a  decent amateur  tournament let me know

There are dozens of guys in Asia  who  can beat him hands down

College golf? He’s 13 yo

He plays a lot of golf because…his dads a pro. It’s a great thing to do together and most kids want to spend time with dad and be like dad.

Until….

They want to do something else lol

I think it’s equally or perhaps even more likely, the CW doest pursue golf as his life/career goal.

He may play junior or even college golf but with a good education and his family connections, lots of other ways to go if he wants to do something else.

Colleges are looking at these kids when they are 13.  The math and correlations are there.  Always outliers like I said, but not a lot.  All tournament golfers at 13 play a lot of golf.  Probably looking at a minimum of 30 competitive rounds a year from 13 year old tournament golfers and that is low end.

Yes, good point hh.

Im just thinking that CW may go a totally different route than to devote his life to golf

TW is not pressuring him to play so he may decide he’s not that into it and get into something else completely

There is actually a large correlation from a competitive golf standpoint from where you are and where you will be.  12 year old USKG world championships it is close to 70% of the kids that participate that go on to play collegiately at some compacity.  As far as JGS rankings are involved, the correlation is he will end up being a DII golfer at best.  Always outliers, but that is what the numbers say.  Someone will take a shot at him, however, at the D1 level because of daddy.

Hard to project from that age to Tour Caliber.  As kid in the olden days, I played with several players who ultimately went on to win on tour.  Two of them are majors winners and were not even the best player in their respective high schools.  (Azinger, Janzen).  Another two were absolute prodigies, but one never sniffed Div 1 golf, and the other , Andy Bean, never won a major.
