How does a 3 handicap get 10 in a proam?

No idea what their criteria is or how they let him have more strokes, I'm not sure you can call him a sandbagger when he maintains a 3 and the tournament gives him 10, unless he had some input into that, maybe he did, but definitely didn't deserve a 10, looking at course rating and slope from where I assume he played in the event he'd still be a 3, IMO.  If he's playing the same tees as the pros I assume he'd adjust up a bit, again, don't know how the tourney calculates.

According to The Sporting News... The Wisconsin State Golf Assn  states his index is 4.6  Not 3

sorry did not see the date of this article.

But with a 3.0 index from the Blue tees(6800) he would have a course cap of 7.

And if ALL the Am caps were figured from the same scale should not be an issue.

The Am part of the tournament is renowned for a few things:  celebrities and their hapless swings in usually cold, windy weather; Jack Lemmon never making the cut; and for sandbagging by the eventual winner.

See, Kerry Packer rolling in with a 17 HDCP from the club he owned, and he and the Shark going net -42.  And breaking the previous record by 6.  The Shark contributed with a -4.

How many -17s do you know, that manage to go net -38 over four rounds, at those courses in February?  The Shark having an interview with an Australian outlet that Packer actually admitted he was a 21, "but such was the integrity of the man" that he accepted the 17 the Committee used instead, was an added tweak to the nose.

LMFAO.

Things don't add up. His partner was +1 and missed the cut. This had to be the most perfect ham and egg hole matchup in the history of best ball.

On his own ball, he would have had to shoot 73,73,73.................as a 10.

His partner had 13 birdies over 3 days. A sandbagging 3 getting 10 means he had 30 strokes over 3 days, that is a lot of net birdies and likely had a few natural birdies on top. So not that unfathomable

I was about to post similar.  The pro being +1 does not mean Rodgers shot -27 net on his own ball.  There was a lot of ham and egging going on it appears. Not really that odd to be -26 net in a two man better ball over four days.

He was pushing for an eagle on a water hole in a vain effort to catch the 4-handicapper who was beating an LPGA pro?

Apparently golf digest writers don't understand how best ball tournaments work either smdh

"Rodgers, who carries a 3.0 Index from Green Bay (Wisc.) C.C. (Rodgers is the quarterback of the NFL's Green Bay Packers) but was playing to a 10-handicap for the event, helped his team by 27 strokes as his partner, Silverman, shot one over par for the three rounds."

If, as posted above by you iirc , Silverman made 13 birdies then Rodgers also made -13 and they ham and egged their way to parring, or net parring the other 26 holes.  Without looking at hole by hole that is what the math says. It’s likely Rodgers contributed a few more net birdies as they may have had a few holes where both bogeyed.

The media always posts this as “the am helped his team by 27 strokes or whatever but that is not the same as Rodgers shooting net -27 for four rounds.

He did help his team by 27 strokes, but he could do that even if he had no natural birdies at all.  As long as his net score on a hole was less than his pro, he helped.  The issue, regardless of what score he shot is that he was a 3.0 index last August.  Even if he had played since then and shoot 100’s every time, the hard cap rule in the World Handicap process would limit him to a max HDCP of 8.

I assume that the Pro AM does did use GHIN HDCPS.

There is no way Rogers is a legit 10.  The conditions were quite difficult for the pros with the weather and wind.   Remember the  handicap is based on what you do when you are playing well.  Even at and index of 4.6 getting 10 at this event is a joke.  He had plenty of time to practice before the event.  The Packers season ended before the playoffs this year.

It appears he posted 82/83/87

Lets be real…..a 3 would probably be about a 5 or 6 course handicap on those courses…..a 5 should average about 8 over the course rating per the USGA.  So he really is in line with expectations.

I cannot believe I’m a Minnesota native and defending Rodgers.🤬 Just feels wrong.

What we don’t know which holes or what he shot.  That is why I said he “could” have done it without making a natural birdie.

Tell me you don't know how best ball works without telling me you don't know how best ball works, lol. Of all the things to double down on this is an odd one. Their team score and his pro's gross total score are two different things

He's not. It seems like the tournament makes up their own handicaps.
