Is anyone more annoying than Colt Knost?

Of the "in the tower" expert commentators I've learned some things from Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo, and Paul Azinger. If you listen closely these three do on occassion impart some helpful information. In contrast, I can't remember ever learning anything useful from Ian Baker Finch, Peter Jacobsen, Curtis Strange, or Justin Leonard.

Of the on course commentators Judy Rankin is the only one who stands out to me as being outstanding. Her insights regarding the lie of the ball,  shot at hand, course conditions, player's mental state etc... were astonishingly good.

There's nothing worse than a person who thinks that they're far funnier than they actually are.  Colt is such a person.

I don't mind Colt, but I wish Smylie covered every golf broadcast I watch. He's the best for featured groups too, he's just relaxed and funny with good insight. Colt does think he's funny, which he really is sometimes, but a little more substance would be nice. In general I think all of the female commentators do a better job of getting into the nitty gritty of golf situations.

I can take issue with most every announcer.  The newest addition would have to be Christina Kim.  If you've caught the Women's Open, or the mixed event this week in N. Ireland, you have had the displeasure.

 

Just give it to us straight.  Straight as train smoke.

Needs to stop trying to be so cute with every comment. I enjoy him to a point but he will not last if he doesn’t tone it down.

I like him best when he’s more serious and analytical, he does have experience inside the ropes.  Also has some good stories on players as he has a personal relationship with many of them, wish he would give us more insight to the player’s personalities.  He is pretty good on his podcast, he comes across more genuine. 

 

I wish he would tone down the stand up routine.  I also really hate when he ribs Frank and the other announcers, just comes off really weird and rude.

Every time I click on the tour sub and see ‘“Is anyone more annoying than Colt Knost?” My initial thought is “The guys that complain about commentators”. But I resist the urge to post it 😇

This is true.  Producers seem to have a weird, warped idea of what viewers actually want.

The little lady enjoys Colt as he livens it up, makes it more enjoyable for the casual viewer such as her.  All commentators have their schtick.  I don't mind him per se but sometimes he tries a little too hard to be funny.  

 

Dottie and Notah are my favorites though.

Blasphemy to torch another media guy, but he’s started to annoy me. The Tour championship in particular. He’ll say something particularly insightful, then blurt out something dumb by all standards.  
I could hear/feel Nobilo even getting frustrated. 
He’s almost like the younger brother making armpit noises at the dining room table. 
I’m just unsure of his role. He’s just trying way to hard.

Not golf related ; but at the beginning of the coverage yesterday he got on Nobilo about not picking up “meal tabs “ having “alligator arms “ nobilo response was pretty punchy with “bc you eat so much”

I would prefer if television broadcasts showed more face-on views of players swings. It seems like 99% of the swings shown are from a down-the-line perspective.

To a player, a camera man standing face-on is less distracting than standing behind the target line.

Totally agree.....How hard could it be to occasionally bless us with different angles during the golf swing with some commentary by my favorite Curt Byrum....🙂

Modern television cameras can apply closeups from a mile away...

Too much talking in general now on all golf broadcasts. Golf is not Sunday Night Baseball or the NFL. They don't need to fill every second with noise. Less is more.

@TiScape 1-Thread 0. I he does sometimes do the comedy thing to much. But why do you think CBS hired him. Because of his social media following. Trying to bring more eyes to the broadcast.

I appreciate that Colt brings great insight, entertainment, and recent tour experience to the broadcast. A lot of insight on shots, execution, and thought process that's different during tournament play. He has massive respect from his tour peers. Pleasure to listen to his perspective. I think he's doing a fine job. Subpar podcast is the most refreshing take on golf out there.
