Is anyone more annoying than Colt Knost?

Totally agree  re Colt Knost.  CBS Golf broadcasts have turned into a non stop wall of waffle.  I am sure Ian Baker Finch is a super nice guy but he is unbearable covering golf.  Then Frank and Dottie chip in and Colt tries to be funny and it's just exhausting and totally detracts from the golf.  The producers should take a listen to the DP World Tour commentators and especially  the great Renton Laidlaw.  Less is more...

I'm sensing a bit of the Feherty Effect: what is appealing in small doses is less appealing or even off-putting in large quantities along with the assumption that every utterance is comedy gold.

 

Perhaps one explanation is given by the now-standard graphic listing the announcers that appears at the beginning of each telecast - it confirms that they are down to skeleton crews in terms of announcers - which means the percentage of airtime allotted to each voice will be proportionally higher.

 

That said, Knost was folksy but restrained during his Masters Live days. I enjoy the SubPar podcast and the freedom it gives him to talk about various and more controversial subjects in more adult language, but perhaps the burgeoning media career has convinced him that verbosity and jocularity in all things is the way forward.

 

Mark Immelman, meanwhile, has a lovely economy of words. Some may object to his repetition of 'Trev' but that's an endearing brother-to-brother thing.

 

Jim Nantz's attempts at puns and wordplay on Sunday were so awful I nearly broke a collarbone from all the cringing. He seems to think that all of NC supports a single team (UNC Tar Heels) stem to stern a la Tennessee or LSU when the reality is quite different.

Exactly, I'm sure she's a sweet girl but damn. Take a breath every once in a while. Just doesn't shut up, non-stop yapping.

 

As far as Colt I like him as well. Maybe tries to hard sometimes but I do like him.

Huh, I guess I'm in the minority but I really like Colt. Him and Smylie are currently my favorites. They don't over dramatized the "weight of the moment" or the players' emotions like Dottie tends to. They seem to give a more of a realistic insight to what the tour players are trying to do or are thinking. They also seem more realistic about what was a good shot or bad shot. Sometimes Azinger, Ian Baker or some of the other booth guys scoff at a pin high shot 30ft away from the pin on a 190yd approach shot, and I'm like, dang that cannot be a bad shot.

Exactly. If the worst I can think of someone is they try to hard to entertain me they are OK in my book. Including David Feherty.

Smiley is a great commentator, knows when to contribute and when to take a minute.

 

DP direct quote yesterday around 15th -16th...."Man Colt you really try to insert yourself as much as possible". If I remember it was right after Colt casually mentioned he went 4-1-3 to finish at QH once upon a time.

 

Frank quickly pointed out it was to make the cut on the number.....

The DP World Tour coverage is instant nap time, can't imagine that is the direction they want to go.
