I held one today.  Looks pretty sweet, I didn’t get to hear the full spill on the specs, but he did say the most forgiving ping driver ever and total moi of 10k with lower spin than the max.

Does it have the carbon? Someone also mentioned a fixed weight rather than movable...

Any other details you can share? Movable weight? Similar look to the G430 Max or different? Curious where this would fit in vs the 430 Max, I’m close to pulling the trigger on the Max but want to hear more about this first, including release date when it’s known. Thanks

I'm interested, but this feels like an odd product... If a 10K driver is lower spin and more forgiving than the 430 Max which is only 1 year into its (presumably) 2y cycle, where does the Max fit into Ping's driver lineup?

Yeah I thought max meant maximum but I guess they had more in the tank for the 10k

It must sell better to release as a special thing halfway through the cycle instead of just holding it back for the g440 max or whatever will be next

Max sits in the same position it currently sits; low to mid spin, 3 position moveable weight with excellent forgiveness. The 10K sounds like Ping’s first attempt at combining ultra high MOI with low spin performance which seems to be the final frontier of driver optimization.

Sure, but I would argue that the latter definition has been the trend their Max model has moved towards. Wherever the 10K positions itself, I'd assume it's going to hurt Max sales

Smaller head size while keeping high moi is the next frontier

I’m assuming there is some fixed weight that can be changed though like the 400?

I always need a lighter weight to get the SW in a decent range. I’ve got the 17 gram in the 430 max now

It will have a weight to change swingweight, but not a moveable weight.

10k moi is not legal?

Two of the USGA limitations on driver heads are size and MOI. The maximum driver head size is 460 c.c. plus a 10 c.c. tolerance making the absolute maximum legal size 470 c.c. The term c.c. stands for cubic centimeters.

The maximum allowable driver head M.O.I. is 5900 g-cm² plus a tolerance of 100 g-cm² making the absolute maximum driver head MOI 6000 g-cm². The term g-cm² stands for grams per centimeter squared.

Regarding MOI, some confusion can exist because the numbers used to express it in our industry can be in different units. In other words, the Maltby Playability Factor for irons uses oz-in² (ounce/inches squared).

The 10k is a combination of the MOI in two dimensions, not just the single measurement used by the usga. It’s absolutely conforming.

No manufacturer is going to make a non-conforming driver head for the masses.  The gains are minimal and it won't sell well enough.  Callaway tried two decades ago and the non-conforming driver barely outperformed conforming models and did not sell well.

theres only 27 replies in the thread, maybe read them before repeating someone else's joke

In this day and age of headline news on reels, you want (expect) ppl to read thru something???

🤣

*and on the driver. It will be $1k, high MOI, sound awful, be shorter than drivers that sound far better that are so close to as forgiving you probably won’t notice. 😇
