Best thing about taking 7 months off from golf due to life changes, is that when you decide to come back, everything is new and exciting. Looks like I came back just in time for PXG's best woods offerings. Excited to try them out and get my order placed.

I believe the dispersion was tighter with the PXG but he went through it quickly and I was in a hurry to get back to work.  Honestly, I’m not 100% sure I’m just addicted to buying new clubs

Could be that or because I have bought Gen 6 XF irons, then 4 & 5 hybrids and recently 4 & 7 fairway woods from him since November.  I was surprised he too that much off though which is why I pulled the trigger on it.

Dropped Ventus Black in T-1 and it's perfect. Long, 10.5* comes out in a very penetrating ball flight and once it hits the ground it just rolls. Plus the sound and the feel off the face is just magnificent. Beat out Ventus Red TR, GD AD TP and a homemade Autoflex. Now it's time to go head to head with Darkspeed LS and Aerojet LS for forgiveness and distance.

What shaft were you using for your homemade Autoflex?

Here's the shaft. There's a video on YouTube related to it. My swing doesn't fit the prototypical Autoflex user profile, but I tried it for giggles, and giggles are plentiful when I use it.

I have the A/F in my Driver and 2wd. I have the exact same shaft above but in a Ladies 4.0 40 gram. Using it in my 5/7 woods, pretty close to A/F results.

Just got off the phone with the rep at the PXG Fitting Center. Made sure they were ready for big me. 😄

Ok.... well maybe I'm exaggerating. Kind of stoked to try the Tour-1. I'll try the Standard, but I tend to hit the one I'm stoked about better. It's all mental.

The standard definitely performed better today, but I have had better days swinging a driver. I left there feeling a little glum and embarrassed, really. A lot of bad swings; terrible rhythm and just a general feeling of being off. Not uncommon, really, I know... 😄 

 

Tour-1 wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Standard had more good shots. Yet, mostly bad shots today. I couldn't really make a decision off that, but I suspect I could buy either head and be perfectly happy. I like the looks of the Tour-1 better because it is more compact; I don't like the elongated look of the Standard, really.

Yet, I am at an impasse because I don't like the idea of trying to squeeze out an analysis based on a horrible day. I definitely can't justify buying a driver after today's session, though.

And it wasn't the fault of the driver... just the driver of the golf ball. 😄

I took my Black Ops that I got fit through PXG to my other fitter who I’m friends with today just to cross check my set up.  He’s a good guy.  In a nutshell, he said I’m dialed in perfectly with the new driver and that PXG did a tremendous job for me.  Ball speed, clubhead speed, smash factor, dispersion all perfect.  He took some swings with it and loved it as well.   Solidified my purchase.  Now if my courses would finally dry out and harden up that would be wonderful.  Soon….

It happens. I’d say just go back and do it again. Might be completely different.

Probably. I have been tied up by project work as of late so it isn't like I've played a lot of golf over the past few months, and golf kind of requires constant attention... 😄 

 

That said, I do have some "homework" for myself of sorts, but first I need to get an idea of how fast I really swing it on a good day, and then start reducing weight gradually over time as needed. The dispersion problems were completely related to my inability to adjust in that setting.

I'll always have those patches when I play the course or practice at the range; but I can usually correct them.

Not to go off topic but did anyone know if PXG has the new GD tour AD VF available or is it just the shafts on their site? I’ve been debating getting fitted for this as my Sim 2 is on its way out but I’m really interested in this shaft.

They havent upgraded their shaft selections in a long long time. It's still not available. Pretty sure everything on the site is what you can get at the fittings

This.  The Fairfax stores has much more than listed.  They don't do a great job of putting everything on their website.  Give them a call or stop by a fitting location.

They update in-store shaft selections, but probably not to most Wrxers liking. Website shows out of stock when levels get low, they've done this for years, so stores and other "mobile" PXG fitters is the way to go if looking for specific shafts. They truly want their stores and fitters utilized to get properly dialed in, rather than guessing combinations which may or may not work for you.

They had a pretty good selection at my store, but none of them worked and they definitely aren't gonna have any 80TX shafts. When I left, we agreed that the one I have is pretty much what I need to use shaft wise.

None of the 60/70 were compatible with me now and I think that's because I've acclimated to the extra weight and can't swing anything else. I'd have to dial the weight back gradually. They had a pretty good selection, though. Just nothing I could hit.

Look what arrived on Saturday.  Now I need to get this out and give it a whirl.  I’m still debating whether the Tour-1 or the Standard was the right call.  She’s a beaut though.

Frankly, I like how the Tour-1 looks from the top. I usually don't care much, but I am probably going to violate my fitting when I buy it and get the T-1 still...... Seemed to work out okay for the other clubs. 😄

i'm with ya, so much easier to look at vs the elongated size of the Standard.  It honestly was a toss up for me just the thought of extra forgiveness creeps back into my head...

The lie is slightly different, but the adapter can be tweaked if needed.

This is my first PXG driver, when I did the fitting I was hooking the ball so got fitted for 7.5 grams in the toe and the back ,2.5 in heel . Now that I'm starting to play it don't know if I need it quite that setup. Are the weights from previous model Gen 5 or gen 6 interchangeable with Black Ops?
