G400 driver replacement in January

Some slappies on here will call it the same as the 400 series. And some will say weʻre going to need to see/check the changes and improvements to move the 410 into the bag. The G400/Max is revered, going to take somthing special. Or it will sell just because guys hate the Canyon copper color way. Good luck on the scouting trip.

I'm headed to Orlando next Saturday evening for a week. I absolutely PROMISE I'll take pictures of everything PING has at the Show. Front, back, sides, slides, crown, face, etc. I'll ask every question under the sun of the folks in the area they have in the convention center.

I personally think all of this, "It's the same as their last driver" talk is a bunch of crap. 18 month cycles don't lend themselves to slapping a new paintjob on a driver and calling it good. Does anyone think Titleist does that?

Cool, keep us posted.

For anyone that has held the club in the flesh, can you confirm the 3 weight ports vs. a sliding track?

From the video at 2:13, it appears as though the weight is right in the middle of the "fish tail".

Then at 2:18, it looks like there is a track (and a long one at that) going all the way from the Draw to Fade markings.

Regardless, this driver looks beastly.

Thanks.

From what my pro told me, it is a 3 position sliding weight. I just asked him again today and he confirmed. He said what the rep showed him was a weight that slid around and clicked into one of 3 positions and then was fastened into place. So there is sort of a track but it does not allow you to place the weight anywhere along the track. This is just 2nd hand info and I have not seen the club yet so TIFWIW.

Golf Digest states "Ping offers a clubhead that combines stability with a movable weight. The 16-gram tungsten chip fits in three spots (heel, center, and toe) to better control your mis-hits".

2000never when the weight kit is available. The 410 could be fun to dry different "animal style" combos, with lighter weights in 2 of the ports.

Am I the only one concerned about whether this is Ping's jump the shark moment? For years, they've said they won't do movable weight because there is too much of a compromise in the mass properties caused by the structures that are necessary to support the movable weight. I can't see how a weight track (regardless of design or material) can be more efficient (in terms of driving cg low and back, which has been Ping's theme) than a fixed structure.

I think Ping's weight track placement on the extreme rear of the club is going to be the story. Everyone else seems to place the track on the bottom. Vulcan Golf released a driver called Speedlite V14 some time ago that had a weight track on the extreme back. Not saying Ping is copying Vulcan, but that's the only other driver I could think of that has a similar track.

I haven't seen conclusive pictures but a movable weight and a weight track are not the same thing.

Think most of use believe Ping would only do this if it is still just as forgiving and doesnt affect performance in a negative way.

Ping burned me with the release of the G400 Max right after I bought the G400. They say the G400 Max will stay current, but now that the PXG 0811XF is the highest MOI driver on the market (and at a competitive price) they will have to move up the G410 Max release which will be a maxed out MOI driver with no weight track. I'm just guessing here but since I'm not buying a Ping driver for a few years, I won't have to worry about their new erratic release cycles.
