2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

I tried the sim 9 and could not get the ball up in the air...it was actually rather weird as I have a ping g400 max digitally lofted at 8 that I still hit high...decided on a trip to miami to take my clubs demo sim 10.5, sim max 9 and sim max 10.5 to try...the sim max heads were more inconsistent some going left, some right. The sim 10.5 had perfect flight and was able to hit my preferred fade easily. And the weight track movement did significantly affect flight as one day I was fading it too much, switched it to heel and then was hooking it! Decided to get it back to middle and then baby fades all day.

I used a smoke 70 6.0 shaft, didn't like the stock ventus 6x without velocore that comes with the max. Just not as stable as the smoke shaft. I ended up ordering sim 10.5 with hzrdus green 75 6.0 and it is great...going to keep putting it through the paces to see if I can get more distance without loss of accuracy with a smoke 60 6.0 shaft.

And also the sound of the sim is just much more solid than the max....my 2 cents.

I actually liked it. It’s super tight landing areas on the Par 4’s, but the Par 5’s were all fairly straightforward and the par 3’s all offer some sort of protection for their relatively short distances. Played the back tees and enjoyed it, but it’s not a “hit driver every hole course” unless you’re super confident or reasonably accurate.

Shape was good for March, but what do I care, I still have 2 feet of snow in Alberta LOL

Ultimately Sim Max just did not last for me. Over the course of the rounds I played with it, I just saw increased dispersion and no real gain in distance. The club was too easy to turn over and that always made me hesitant. Maybe I should try the regular Sim so I can get the adjustability. Its back to the G410 LST for me and after this weekend's driving rounds, I do not think I'll tinker anymore this year. Yeah, I'm sure that'll hold up.

You just CANNOT beat the reliability of Ping drivers! In the chase for distance I get lured by the TM heads as well and I just don't find added distance and my dispersion always goes up with TM heads versus Ping or Titleist heads. Doesn't hurt to try other heads which I always do, but you have to keep your Ping driver ready to go at all times!

Well I recieved my sim max 10.5* with a ventus blue 6s , playing at 45.25 , tipped 1.5" , this thing is so easy to hit , in coming from a cobra f8 with a elements chrome 5 F5 , I played my f8 and 8.5* and always play a draw with my driver that can get exaggerated a touch, I couldn't believe when I started hitting the sim we started with the loft one click lower at 9.75* but I was losing a few to the right which never happens to me, I lofted it back up then it came alive , i would say that it was straight to a slight fade stock shot launching at 14* spin at 2200 average . Really great numbers.

First round on the course and was seeing the same baby fade, I'm looking forward to the season to keep testing this out but think it will be staying in the bag , also picked up the SIM max 3 wood which is also money.

Head weight of mine was 195.4; D4.8 with my KK Dual Core XD playing 45.5”.

 

I ordered mine with the hzdrus green 70 6.5 -0.25”. I had no plans of playing the green but wanted to see if they would get close to D5 at -.25”.

Don't look now & I'm gaming a Max 10.5 & hitting it well, BUT.....Prices of Regular SIM 9's have tanked on the bay (as i predicted).

The usual legit sellers are not getting 400 dollars for 9 drivers with the Stock Diamana's or Smoke Blacks in MINT (Meaning plastic off head) condition.

I'm playing the Max 10.5 at 9.75 with a Evo IV 661 & it's been VERY long and accurate in 1 round and some Simulator time.

It is a very good head

Just picked up the SIM 10..5, will be pairing with the Synergy Black Proto 60g, tipped .5 playing at the standard setting - 44.75'. In Ohio, so no course time yet, but the thought of high low spin bombs is keeping me alive.

First on-course impressions of the SIM were very good. It is as long as anything I have played and, more importantly in my opinion, at least as accurate. I've always been a guy who loves the option to put an adjustable weight in the toe/fade setting to help take out the occasional hard left (as a righty) and this is perfect. The G410 LST has been my previous favorite and so far the SIM has taken it's place in the bag. I would guess performance would be within the margin of error on average, if anything a razor thin advantage to the SIM, and the SIM wins out on looks/sound/feel by a significant margin.

 

Previous Gamer - Ping G410 LST 10.5 (big - setting). Weight in fade setting. Accra TZ6 65 M5 or Rogue White 130 70 TX

Current Gamer - SIM 10.5 (2 clicks toward lower). Weight a few clicks toward the toe. Ventus Black 7X. (Getting a tip on a Rogue White 130 70 TX to test)

I concur feel and sound of the SIM is better than all others. I just need to get the right shaft to better the dispersion compared to my Ping and TS3.

Picked up sim 9* with ventus blue 6x.

Fantastic driver. Taylormade has a winner here. Great looks, feel, and sits square. It just knocked my 2017 m1 out of the bag.

Played a round with both the Max and MaxD. Great sounding driver. Now I need to dial in the shaft and find some old clubs to take advantage of the TaylorMade trade in!

Can’t say enough good things about the stability of this driver.

Played Las Sendas today and had a lot of mid to short irons in on Par 5’s, including a 350 yard downhill assisted bomb on 18, but the line I took with a 20 spot on the line was something I would only take mid-season, not the 3rd round playing it.

Not saying it’s any longer than what I’ve played in the past but I’ve always struggled with low launch and spin, no matter the shaft and head combo.

This is just high launch with plenty of roll, but the 10.5 really helps with left to right dispersion as well.

One final round tomorrow until no more golf for another 2 months back home.

I was a bit shorter with the D, but my dispersion seemed a bit better. They had two diff shafts so not sure I can draw any great comparison. Didn’t visually notice a different at setup.

2 rounds into my golf trip weekend and not a single ball missed hard right. Driver is still the easiest driver I've ever hit off the deck. It will now stay in the bag.

I'm upright lie, 10g weight all the way in the heel and 4g weight dead center.
