Polo Shirts outdated according to Wife

After all this i ended buying some Oakley shirts. Lovely colours and the 44 chest size fit perfect for me. Plus the kids say i don't look like a boomer ( I thought boomers were over 70s anyway).

I'm pretty much all Under Armour for golf clothes, shirts, pants, polos, belts and vests. Love the way they fit and quality is good.

The really easy way to never have to worry about going out of style is to just wear all black.

I second the thumbs up for the William Murray golf shirts. I have a few of them. However I don't wear them on the course, I usually wear them to work or out for a drink, etc.

With those shirts, it's going to be a matter of cut/fit, and not much else (and if they're cotton, I wouldn't wear them for golf at all).

Polo “fashion” hasn’t changed all that much IMO...yes you get some funky stuff here and there that has a little “flair” but for those of us that like to keep it simple it is still relatively the same.

What has changed quite a bit, however, is the materials. I love the stretchy performance stuff, but folks like Peter Millar or Linksoul are also starting to offer “stretchy cotton” which I might like even better. Yes the OP needs to update, but maybe as much for upgrading to better materials as anything else.

No old solid color cotton polo is going to look good. They all eventually fade and lose their shape. FWIW that shirt Rory is wearing is definitely not cotton. My guess is that it is a high performance stretch fabric of some sort.

The material and cuts of your shirts are badly outdated. Does anyone else not button their shirts when they hang them? IMO this makes them look worse, as the neckline looks incredibly stretched out.

The only thing that makes the shirts seem outdated is the brand logo and the material. If you took the logos off all those shirts, most people seeing you out and about wouldn't notice the difference from today's polos (except for that last shirt).

I like having a mix of subtle classics and trendy, but the classic stuff usually ages better. In high school I had Levis, Girbaud, and Z Cavaricci pants. The most "boring" of those brands is the only one I would still wear today.

I am 52 and gave my Dad about 20 Polo of my older 2xL cotton golf polo's, he is happy (and 80). Those shirts last forever and are good for sitting on a dock drinking cold ones when flip flops are in order (tell me you don't also wear Jesus sandals with Velcro)

I could no longer handle the butterfly sweat marks on my chest in high humidity and then fighting salt stains etc

I love the performance fabric of Nike, UA and Adidas and you never look like you got off a treadmill 20 years ago

Switch out of your heavy and wrinkly cotton shorts if that is also still your bag baby, you will never go back once you do

Ok folks. I probably keep them for golf because we like to go out for a drink and game of poker after. You are all right regarding the new materials as the Callaway white, orange Lacoste and pink Ralph are the only ones with the new materials. Mind you I don’t sweat and those cotton shirts fit me lovely as I have wide shoulders. Point taken though the cotton ones are only gonna be used for casual outings now. Folks really appreciate your feedback even the sarky ones??

This is golf. You can wear checkered pants with dotted, collared shirts and shoes that look like you stole them from a bowling joint.

Just get rid of the red and white one. Nothing wrong with the rest. By the time you are 35 you are invested in your look and should not be steered elsewhere. You'll likely be wearing that style of shirt till your 80, perhaps with a sweater or light blue jacket over the top. Stay the course my man.

 

And if the "polo" is dead for golf what else are we going to wear? Mock turtlenecks? Blade collars (henleys)? Certainly not a V neck, some of us are adult men and blessed with full chest fros.

Toss 'em all. Hopefully, you are either overweight or really skinny. Nothing looks better than today's old guy golfer with the huge beer belly trying to squeeze into form fitting "moisture wicking" (read: wet spandex) so that you look like a polish sausage. Or, better yet, the skinny guy with the pipe cleaner arms that are accentuated to be even more skinny by having a sleeve that barely extends beyond the shoulder bone. Throw in a shirt or two from the Rickie Fowler Garanimals collection and a nice pair of nut hugging pants and shorts of today and you'll be stylin'!
