How many of you play a 2 iron, and what's your setup?

I have a Cobra forged Tec 3i, which is really at 2i loft (19*). Modus 105 shaft in it.

Intended use is as a driving iron or for shots that are too short for my 4W. It's surprisingly easy to hit off the fairway.

I have a MP-30 2 iron with a rifle 6.0 in it that I use on windy days off the tee as I can keep it out of the wind and stop it from a ballooning like my 4 wood. It's handy for low punch shots that need to run as well

P790 UDI. Off the tee and getting out the woods mostly. Surprisingly versatile, low chasers or high cuts are easy and my miss is not as bad as hybrids which go everywhere but straight.

I have a F9 long iron that says 4 on it, but it it's bent from 19.5 to 18.5. Technically a 2 iron loft. I usually just use it off of the tee, but can hit it off the short grass for certain par 5's 2nd shot. It is very easy to hit. Has a Graphite shaft so it goes way up in the air. Don't really plan on replacing that club any time soon.

About 2-3 years ago I swapped my 5w out for a 2i. I did it because blades are the best clubs for me to play so I might as well try to bag as many of them as possible. It's more versatile than a 5w and the ball flight is overall lower. I could go either way with it and the 5w but right now it's staying in my bag.

Edit: My setup is a Miura black boron 18* 2i baby blade. Nippon NS Pro 850 GH S-flex shaft. GripMaster grip. Here's my bag:

I have a GAPR LO 2 iron at 15.5 degrees, with a Modus 120 S shaft. Good into the wind and for scrambling from the trees. Plus It’s easier to hit than a wood for me.

U500 2 iron with Tensei white 100x. Use it for tee or punch shots. Also reliable for layup on par 5 when anything is in the way.

Wow factor of ten. Playability factor of two ( one better than one). I thought of my bag in the sixties, leather grips on staffs with dynamic shafts, really the reason I wear a glove to this day. Needed them with leather grips on Hot humid days, cold days, Rainey days, and of course to avoid blisters as you had to hold onto those suckers. Anyways cool looking bag. Trim the fuzz of the head over piping.

Is it weird that I have 3 brands that I rotate?

To be honest, my strong 3 wood has taken a lot of stress off my 2 iron yardage.

I have in favor:

Ping 410 Crossover - Long and a stinger off the tee but not the best feeling.2018 Callaway Apex MB with a steel shaft for feel and refining my swing; used as a practice aid believe it or not. Just like the pure feel and shot shape.Srixon U45 with a graphite shaft for forgiveness, versatility off the tee, fairway, light rough, fairway bunker and higher launch. Last thing your want to do is mishit a 2 iron off the tee and not get pass the dogleg!

I play a Titleist 716 T-MB 2 iron with an XP115 X100 shaft, and I love it.

I previously had a DG X100 shaft in the 2 iron, and the swap to the XP 115 X100 has been great. I get roughly the same overall distance, but with a 10-15 ft higher apex and more carry. It’s easy to flight low as well. I never had problems flighting the ball down, only high. This set up allows me to hit high draws which was much harder for me to do with the DG X100 off the deck. I’d end up with the face a bit open and a high right push quite often.

Depending on where I play or wind, I could drop it for an Adams tour issue 9031 proto 3hybrid. It goes almost the same distance, it’s right smack in the middle of my 2 and 3 iron distance wise, but flies higher. Although, think I’m more consistent with the 2 iron, so I’m not sure what my next move is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m thinking of dropping my 3 iron and adding a high bounce 60 for traps. My wedges currently go

PW 45* 716 T-MB

GW 50* bounce 5*

SW 55* bounce 7*

I have an old Vokey lying around that is like new which is

60* 12* bounce so ?

If I add the 60* I can drop the 2+3 and just use the 3 hybrid to cover both spots to achieve 14 clubs, but I hit the 2 iron so well that I’m torn on dropping it. My other option is to just drop the 3 iron and go .......

1W,2Hy,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,PW,GW,SW,LW, putter!

Nah. I play that bag for maximum ease of play (the playability goes to ELEVEN) and comfort. And I'm too lazy to trim the fuzz. ?

Just got given a Nike Vapor 2 iron with an x100 shaft in it. Have only used it two rounds but it's great off the tee for a couple of tight par 4s on my home course. I have a Ping i25 5 wood which is amazing, but the 2 iron has been great for about 220 off the tee, and does not go left. Lower ball flight but strangely really easy to hit. Very straight. Gotta love a spinal tap reference but in your case it goes to twelve, as in twelve irons. Play well enjoy.

my last irons were MP5 which felt great to me. Feel wise they Reminded me of my really old ram tour grinds. Some day I’ll get to swing a Miura and see what it seems everyone who plays them is talking about.

I play a Mizuno HMB 2 iron with KBS proto graphite shaft. It’s great for keeping under trees and punching out. The course I play has top tracer on the range and My average launch angle is between 9° and 11° haha. I also play a SIM max 19° hybrid which gives me a little more distance and a higher ballflight. They both have very different shots for me so I don’t rotate them out, I just took my 4 iron out. I will probably continue with the 2 iron and 19° hybrid for the rest of the season, and then decide if I want to take out the 2 iron in favor of the 4 iron.

u500 2i with stock HZRDUS smoke shaft. I struggle with woods and love irons, so it's my go to club off the tee when I need a fairway finder or tight driving holes. I'm not 100% sold on the shaft yet. Would like to try some other options that feel a little easier to load but get the same results. When I hit it well, it has a nice penetrating flight with 25-2600 spin.

The one thing that really sold me on it was the look at address. Very little offset and small footprint for a utility iron. Looks fantastic!

I played a Mizuno Pro 16* 1 iron for a long time till 2 irons came out. Bought a Titleist 716 T-MB 17* 2 iron and played it till late last year when I bought a new 718 T-MB 17* 2 iron and had 110gr Steelfiber "S" put in. I might put a 95g shaft in soon, not sure. Something about hitting a sweet 2 iron. Maybe it's the adulation from others watching an ole man smack it well. Yeah, that's it.

It's my 15th club, and it goes in and out of the bag. It's either my favorite club or in the dog house. Depending on the situation, it will either replace my 13.5 or my 16.5 fairway.

Almost exclusively a tee club for me. Love the low flight and the manageable misses. But it's a one-trick pony for me, and there are times when I miss the fairway wood that it replaces.

My current gamer is an MP-20 HMB with a Hzrdus Black 6.5. Love the club, but I'm a good fairway wood player and they give me a little more versatility.

I have also played P790 (excellent), TMB (fine) and Crossover (nope).

As someone else posted my "2i" is also a F9 4i bent to 18.5 degrees, 3i length AD-IZ shaft, and built to mimic Rickie Fowler's, Except mine is just stiff flex lol. Anyway it is great off the tee for tight par 4s, and I use it as my main lay up club on long par 5s if I feel I can't get there with a 3w. I guess you could say it fits perfect in my bag as a 5w or low lofted hybrid replacement A club that will stay in my bag for many years.

Don’t like fairway woods, much prefer long irons. Mizuno MP-60 with 18° loft at 39.5” w/DG SL X100 shaft. Great for low rolling stinger into the wind or from a nice fairway lie to float in a high approach to the green from about 225-240 away. Can’t really do the low stinger with a 5W for me, so this gives me a bit more versatility. Also very useful for low punchout from the trees too.

My older Ping i20s and Eye2 have 4i, and I hit them horribly. Invariably, it was simply extra weight I really didn’t need to lug around. Even the 5i, which I could hit mediocre, might have only come out for a shorter punch shot. 12 clubs would have been more than sufficient.

The P760 have a 4i and it’s quite nice to hit. Mishits don’t hurt, and it’s quite playable. Now, I actually try to find conditions that let me use them, sometimes even playing back a set. Lol.
