I’m trying out apex pro, 770, and zx7. We’ll see what wins

Any thoughts to try the Cobra Mim tours or the Honma line?
I may not try the Srixons only because I’m a fairly low spin guy with the longer clubs.  Gorgeous sticks though.
I’m leaning towards the Apex pro, Mim tour.  Will keep my options open during testing though.
I may also try a different shaft in my T100S to see if I can get more out of them.

Apex Pro 19 were about a half club longer for me, easier to launch, better turf interaction.  The feel wasn’t drastically better, but the 19 Pro had a really fun, unique sound to it that grew on me.  At first it was odd.  Tbh, the only thing I didn’t love about the 19 pros was the shaping on some of the clubs.  Hoping they fixed that this time around.   The long irons of the Apex pro 19 were also much easier for me to hit than the T100S.  For whatever reason I damn near cant even hit the 4 iron.  Odd, as I never had an issue with a 4 iron before.

I couldn’t agree more on the turf interaction and the sound/feel growing on you. It becomes very rewarding sound and feel over time. Similarly, I find the long irons unbelievably easy to hit, and height/launch is never an issue. I’m actually nervous the soles of the new pros are going to be less cambered which is why I think I enjoyed such great turf interaction on the 19s.

My guess would be that the T100-S 4 iron has only 22* of loft.

We all have that threshold of diminishing returns with irons as loft goes away, and it's usually bleeding obvious when it's been crossed. No shame in that when there's other more effective tools to take its place.

Not a huge fan of either company. I’m leaning apex pros. 2014 version were my favorite iron of all time minus the finish

I agree I ditched the t100S 4 iron for u500. Always played a stock 4 iron until t100S

Yeah ended up filling the 4 spot with a Gapr mid because it was a cheap experiment that went well.

i definitely think the Apex Pro will be a bit more forgiving across the face than the T100. I wanted to compare with the T100s also but just didn’t have enough time. The TXG guys said the Apex Pro sort of sits between T100 and P770.

But I can’t hit any of the 4irons in these sets high enough at my speed. But the original 23 degree Apex 4 hybrid is literally the best darn club ever. It’s so versatile, not too long and will launch up in the air. Might want to look at that.

The ‘21 Apex Pro hybrid is another “must test” this year. Softer feel than the ‘19, and wicked combo of speed and spin retention. MMT shaft in it is mui bueno.

Tested Apex Pro 21 vs nearly everything else, with special focus on T100 and P770. Apex Pro won hands down.  Everyone is different, but I got far more consistency out of them than the others. And, they looked and sounded better than the P770s. I went in thinking T100. Came out, zero doubt, Apex Pro 21.

Excellent feedback

Going to do exactly the same

coming from t100's...

thank you

Just a question

I am low spin as well....why would you not try the Srixons?

thanks

A few reasons they likely won't be a good fit for me:

1.  I'm shallow and the V-sole is best for negative attack, divot taking folks.  I tend to pick my irons.

2.  Srixon irons are historically know to be low spin.  I suppose if the launch and apex is there, this won't matter.

3.  Lastly, I don't LOVE the address position head shaping.  They are good, just not my absolute fave.  The very straight leading edge is also not my preference.  I'm nit picking here.

Having said that, I'll maybe try them anyway, as they are PURDY!

HOW DO THE "SOLES" COMPARE IN THE PRO"S VS P770'S? Is one thinner than the other? Does anyone have pics of the "soles" of the PRO"S by chance? Even better comparision pics next to the 770's? I am especially looking for the PW sole.... I have the 770's (love them) but soles are pretty wide towards the bottom of the bag IMO...

I got a chance to play the Apex Pros on Saturday at my golf course during the front 9. They put the Apex Pro in a Elevate 95 ETS shaft. Here are some pics that I took. I haven't hit the P770 so I can't really tell you how they compare. My normal gamer are the JPX 919 Hot Metals and I was looking for more traditional lofts with a narrower sole and the Apex Pros felt perfect for me.

@ThorntonMelon I hit the Pros on Friday in my fitting, certainly not a low cap and was pretty surprised when the fitter broke these out.  For reference, I'm coming from Mizuno MP54's and told the fitter I was looking for some more help in terms of forgiveness but wanted to keep a lower profile as that's what I'm used to.  Hit the Mizuno HMP, P790, Apex 21, King MIM, JPX Tour (when fitting the shaft), Srixon ZX5/7 (what I thought i was going to get fit into), maybe a couple others, and the Apex Pro was by far the best feeling, looking, and highest performer for me.  I had tight dispersion and about 10-15 yards more distance than my MP54 in a 6 iron.  I'd put myself around a 15 cap at the moment.

I'd also be curious to hear additional feedback around this as I didn't even consider the Pro leading up to the fitting.  I liked the Apex as well but it had more offset than I was used to and hence was sending the ball consistently left.  Overall, I feel like they packed a lot of tech into the Pro and it's more forgiving than it looks.  Great irons IMO.

If it helps.....Callaway has apparently compared the forgiveness of these new Pros with the prior Apex standard model.  So in theory, you would be gaming a fairly forgiving club in the new Pros.

Which is what I've heard also. As I said earlier, 1st time in a while that Callaway irons have piqued my interest. 🙂 Fitter local to me will be getting them in this week to take some swings with.

All things equal, the apex pro has always been really forgiving. much more than people thought given its shape and size. the apex 19 pro is pretty similar.

I think for me it’s between these and the zx7’s. Question really becomes whether I want to make the move to graphite or not.

I believe in the US you can get the Srixons with the MMT shafts, but only the 105 Stiff I think. Not available in Europe though, therefore I will try the Callaways once the shops are open again.

Went to big box retailer and they have both the zx7 and Apex Pro. Both look really really good. Apex Pro is smaller than I expected and so is the srixon. It’s def a different shape than the 85 series. I just need to find an MMT to demo.
