Or thinning the ever loving crap out the wedge shot. Nothing feels worse than watching a head high rocket mega airmail the green.

I can remember mine vividly - 45+ years later. My grandfather taught my brother & I to play. He belonged to a nice club in the area - 27 holes. This was back in the late 70s or so. They had a rule (antiquated I know) - no juniors under age 10 on the main 18. 

 

We played a lot on the short/practice 9 (and even played 18 on a few nearby muni's)...finally the summer my brother (he was 2 years younger) was turning 10. Gramps said now we can all 3 go out on the main course. We spent the night over at their house...and I can remember waking in the middle of the night to the sounds of pouring rain. And it rained, and rained, and rained...a complete washout. Of course to my 12 y.o. self it was the end of the world - no idea in my mind that i would get to play 1000s of rounds of golf - on some of the greatest courses in the world.

Making an eagle in a skins game and finding out someone else did too. At least the pain is shared with the other player.

 

It almost happened to me. I made a long putt for a three on a par five and a guy in our group just missed his birdie (with a pop!) putt. I never want to see someone miss a putt but I smiled a bit on that one. (To paraphrase Clarance Darrow)

I seldom 3 putt. I seldom miss par 3 greens.  But I had a round last year where I was inside 15' on all four par 3's, and never made a par, much less a bird........ one bogie I started putting from 3.5'.....

Getting in from the party at 3 a.m after being driven home and arriving to your 7:30 tee time at 8. Shooting 102 for the 15 holes I played was the 2nd worst feeling.

When a huge scramble event is finishing up just before Mens league starts. Fixing 20-30 pitch marks every green and filling in numerous divots gets old.

Hit the best drive ever on a par 5, and top everything else for a bogey! Did this yesterday. I was greedy after the drive and then topped my 5 wood, totally lost it!

Physically - Thinning an iron shot when you can barely feel your hands and watching the ball scream over the green

 

Mentally - Missing a short putt on 18 to lose allllll the bets.

I would rather slice a ball 3 fairways over than blade a chip across the green or chunk a chip 2 inches.

 

There is a split second of wanting to tomahawk your wedge into orbit when you send a chip shot burning 15 feet off the back of the green.

Not being able to feel the club as it moves around me.  I want whether I play good or bad on any given day to be completely on me and I hate not feeling ready to go physically because it diverts much needed attention and energy away from the mental game.

Missing a 4' eagle putt after driver/5I into a shortish par 5.  GAHHHHH!!!!!!!  Came back to the game 2 years ago after a 14 year hiatus.  I think I've had maybe 5 eagles since I was 11 years old.  They're special to me for sure.

Looking forward to a game at the weekend with your mates all week, waking up at the weekend, it's hammering it down and the game is called off.

Worse is when you wake up on a competition day, it's hammering it down and you have no choice & have to go play.

For most of the time I've played golf, I've played with a very strong grip (a pro friend described it as "the wrong three knuckles grip"). The result was a pretty consistent straight pull, so I'd just aim right and pull it straight. I probably would've been fine had I just left it alone, but I've never met a screwball theory I wouldn't try. 

During the pandemic, I didn't play for a whole year. When I came back to the game, I was very happy about getting back out there, especially on a beautiful day (68°). My joy soon turned to horror as every shot I hit hooked violently. We were on a par 3 course and every teeshot I hit would start dead at where I aimed it, then, about ten yards out, make a hard left and go another 30-60yds. It was so bad, I was yelling "fore!" and then apologizing to people two holes over. I couldn't figure out why it was happening, so I ended up taking my first formal lesson ever. For me, then, there's no worse feeling in golf than knowing, on any shot, I might accidentally kill someone. It's a comfort to be back being only a danger to myself.

Two-chipping is the single worst thing.

I can deal with slicing a drive OB.  I can deal with a topped/shanked iron.  3-putts happen.  

 

Missing the green when chipping is an unforgiveable sin.

You need to get your priorities straight - women are to be celebrated, following them on a golf course is a great day out.

For some reason, hitting an iron thin just drives me crazy.  I have rounds where I do it almost every shot.
