What’s the Worst Feeling in Golf?

Walking down the 18th fairway with 110 yds left to the pin, suddenly realizing you forgot your 56 degree on the 16th green.

Being in slow group of oblivious golfers with a foursome behind staring at your group.  And you know that if you mentioned letting them play through It would fall on deaf ears. I can't stand having someone behind waiting no matter the circumstances.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but this one hits close to home:

 

You're in the fairway on the first after piping your drive. You're unfamiliar with the course so you open up your pouch that normally has your rangefinder to get the exact yardage to the pin and you are pained to find that...... It was left on the cart at the last place you played, 2 weekends ago.

Many years ago I'm running late for my tee time with a member @ SFGC, it's only me and another gentleman at the practice area, I take my 1st swing and shank it 3-4 feet right past him, he looks over his shoulder and gives me a look I've never forgot to this day, ( just a strange smile) the gentleman was Sandy Tatum, I somehow got out of my mouth "excuse me sir" I told the member and he did not stop laughing the entire 1st hole.

Yeah, pretty common in skins that the worst players have the best opportunities for skins. You get your best players constantly pushing holes, and then the worst player merely makes par when they have a stroke to win 4 skins at a time. 

 

Because typically, bad golfers (and I consider myself in that group) are not bad all the time. It's not an inability to throw down a par that defines their terribleness. It's the blow up holes that typically kill a scorecard. 

 

So if you get a situation like I used to be in a decade ago with a group of coworkers I played with (two golfers--neither me--who shot in the low 80s, and two golfers who shot in the high 90s or occasionally triple digits, and got a shot a hole), skins absolutely benefit the worst golfers in the group.

The single worst feeling in the game for me is when I shank one.  I know it happens to everyone at times but man that feeling off the hosel just sets into my soul and I have such a hard time getting rid of that feeling.  I was crushing it in a tournament a few years ago then got to the 16th hole and hit a shank into a hazard.  Took a drop and shanked the next one.  With 2 holes left to play I legit couldn't even take the club back.  Ended up losing the tournament because of those final 3 holes and it all came back to one single shot that just stuck in my head.

 

My other one would be losing, nay getting boat raced by someone who is clearly sandbagging in a match/tournament/etc.  Has happened to me several times and man that infuriates the hell out of me.

When the new guy in shipping sends your clubs next door to Nike because "nobody here plays golf, right?". 

 

FedEx marked it as delivery interruption, so I hope they redeliver today. I didn't even know they had an office next door. The world campus is across the street. I knew they had a ton of offices around, just didn't know they were in our building until now. 🤣

Todays worst feeling...... Par 5, water in front. Average drive. 5 wood to almost exactly 100 yards. Gap wedge, hits 3' in front of hole, bounces once, and spins back 60' off the front and into the water. Due to trees down both sides holding off wind and sun the green was softer than the other two holes in front of it and wasn't playing with even a hint of firmness.

Playing in a tournament and skulling a chip across the green when the other 3 players are on the green. Walk of shame with everyone watching you.
