I don't know what hurts worse. The penalty or the four 3-putts I had after hitting 12 GIR 😭

For me, it's always following something good with something awful.

 

Making a birdie and following it up with a double.

 

Hitting a great drive to the center of the fairway about 120 out and chunking the crap out of a wedge.

 

Hitting an approach to 5' and not coming anywhere close to making the putt.

 

Here lately, I've been starting strong - like 2 or 3 under through 5 holes. About the time someone mentions, "damn, we are going to be looking at this all day," I'll go bogey my way through the rest of the round.

 

So frustrating.

That's a big one. Had a round where not a lot was going well. Got onto the tee on 17 and striped one right down the middle--baby draw into the center of the fairway. Entire group saw it. Slightly blind landing area from the tee, but it was a big wide fairway with no obstructions or trees or anything else that would have caused an errant carom. 

 

Couldn't find the ball. 

 

How do you lose a ball that you KNOW landed right in the middle of the fairway?

A little backstory:

Battling the pull hooks all day and get to the 13th hole, which is a 90* dogleg right par 4. Massive lake right, new housing development lines the entire left side of the hole. Lay up perfectly into the fairway, leaving about 175yds into the green. I proceed to to pull hook one into a tree just left and short of the green where my ball ricochets directly into the backside of one of the new houses (no damage, but definitely hit hard enough to make a pronounced thud). I hop in the cart w/ my buddy who starts asking “what do we do?”. Not knowing what he is talking about, I look back over at said house where the homeowner is standing on his back porch and was as big as Andre the Giant (probably not as big, but def could snap me in two). I felt the wrath of this guy coming as we approached the green, but luckily enough the guy couldn’t have be nicer as I apologized profusely and even threw me my ball back from his yard. But boy, for those few minutes I felt like such an a-hole.

Someone else decided that ball laying out in the fairway didn't belong to anybody, so they picked it up.  That's one strong possibility and one I see on courses with fairways close to each other with blindish landing areas.
