What is Your Favorite GolfWRX Thread?

There's too many. I don't want to link them because some eventually became mean spirited and i don't think there's use pulling those back up...i doubt the mods would want that

Some that stand out:

1) The thread accusing Scratch Golf of lying about their metals they used. This thread was just off the rails. It included people doing privately funded metal tests , and an actual debate about whether a japanese forger was alive or dead. There has never been a more popcorn worthy thread

2) The thread in the 19th hole where the guy had a crush on his teacher. He was such an amazing sport in that thread. It was just mostly good natured ribbing of the guy, and featured some incredible womanizing tips from GolfWRX'ers. (including yours truly, who suggested she be kept in a well in his basement). He eventually posted numerous selfies of himself (trust me, it worked, it was great)

@MtlJeff: Such a tease & got me curious!

Re your #2 bullet-point (w.r.t. 19th hole thread)...
Could you pls throw a bone to this non-old-timer?
(maybe share the Link via DM, i.e. if you prefer not to reply here?)

I tried to google-search for it (http://bit.ly/3cfCYBV), but no hits
(i.e. possibly the indexing post-migration to the new Forums software = still WIP?)

Thanks! 🙂

So I have a liking for things where I can see humor, sometimes odd humor... so probably my favorite is this one---  "No hats in grillroom. Etiquette, or just bulliquette?" This thread lasted less than a month and went whopping 42 pages for 1256 posts before it got so contentious that it got locked.  Some of the judgements and insults were comical. There were some great member names that participated.  Sadly one that got banned (not because of this thread)  @BrianL99 and sadly some others that just don't come around WRX much if at all anymore like @Medic. Just browse through the names if you want to take a trip down memory lane 🙂

I'm just starting on it now. It's a doozy. I think I could through War and Peace in less time that that thread.

W&R would probably a less confusing read, as well.

  • 2 months later...

Release the putter was a good one, I still cringe thinking about the post the guy who started it made when the putter was finally released.

Any of the trip threads were great reading, not just to hear about the experiences but for the inevitable arguments that ensued after.

Anything JonesScott or JP were absolute classics. Idk how many will remember this, it's going back quite a ways, but my ABSOLUTE favorite WRX thread of all time is, and always will be, the Assledonk thread. I laughed until I cried. I had that Obama style campaign pic someone made of Assledonk as my avatar for awhile. I'll never forget the way that thread seemingly took over this place. I still think/talk about it occasionally.

Forgot another, the "Pipe Dream" golf channel show thread was another classic. Just page after page of people calling the guy a bum, mixed with ardent defenders. I'm pretty sure, if anyone remembers for sure chime in, but I'm pretty sure he made an account himself and started arguing with people in the thread, and I think threatened to sue Thrillhouse for ragging on the guy 🤣

I was just thinking of the pipe dream thread the other day!! I I tried to find the thread but couldnt. I dont even remember what year that was.. That guy came in here super hot to defend himself for a day and a half or whatever it was.. Those were some serious good and comical times. Jonesscott will go down in infamy in my mind.

In a similar  vein, the “Jeans on the course” thread ran pretty deep with a lot of participants. And got really ugly at times.
Sorry, not up to speed on how to link it.

I forgot about that one. I didn't know denim could be so contentious

Some of the name calling in there was pretty entertaining. The two I  remember best were “mouth-breathers” and “people of Wal-Mart”!  At least I think they were from that thread.

Not judging you on style but functionally why wear jeans to play golf? There's so many better options for warmth, wind and water resistance.

I kind of agree, i don't find jeans that comfortable overall. Big cargo pants guy, legalize those on the golf course!

Because it's too cold right now for my cargo shorts! 😀

When I was a kid many moons ago, all I wore any time were jeans (except for about two hours on Sunday, lol) until summer, then it was jeans or cutoff denim shorts.  Even in HS it was jeans for golf team for most kids, girls or boys.  Golf slacks then just weren't a thing among the younger generation (i.e., most kids weren't copying Johnny Miller or wearing, gasp, sansabelt action slacks).  Love wearing them, back in the "slim" fits, haha, with a nice boot cut that allow me to wear boots now and then but have a nice pseudo bell bottom look that take me back when worn with golf shoes or tennis shoes.

Around here in the spring when its 40s/50s and same late fall I'd say most of the men golfing at our course are wearing jeans. Just a function of the area and demographics.  I agree there are better weather options - last weekend when the wife and I went out I had on a pair of Bonobos (ooooh, lol) pants and had my waterproof wind pants over them because of the wind/cold combo - can't stand wind pants over jeans.  And I often wear casual pants as well, not jeans 100%.  Once it gets into higher 60s and then above it's golf pants or shorts until fall.

I play somewhere where jeans aren't favored I don't wear them and happy to wear something different.  I really like "modern" golf pants, but still enjoy my jeans when it's 48 degrees like today and 16 mph winds out of the NW and I'm going to play!

Coming up on 5 years and 17k posts @Swoff57 post on the Kirkland golf ball is my all time favorite. The thread literally has everything in it. Conspiracy theories, Costco loyal defenders, naysayers who stubbornly ignore evidence and dozens of photos of cut balls. And the talk of golf balls is just a small portion of the thread. Wine, whiskey, roasted chicken, spaghetti sauce, toilet paper, cap of ribeye... classic.

Yeah I wear jeans a lot also but never for golf to stay warm.  The reality is that cotton is not a great choice. It doesn't wick moisture away from your skin and acts as a heat sink if it gets wet. Not the most effective wind blocker and not very stretchy either.

I switched to these and have never looked back. Something you may want to try. I think they are available lined as well. Or put a base layer under on extra cold days. I've received many compliments on these.

Very similar to some pants I got from Flint and Tinder!  As I got older I learned to ditch jeans when I'm walking and playing golf, in any weather they are a disaster for that. Riding right now, but will be transitioning.

I get pants off Tinder as well...but I keep them mostly as trophies.

My favorite was the thread on Kuchar underpaying  his fill in caddie,  El Toucan. I like the train wreck threads. I use to be on a pointing dog forum and there was a guy on there who would get drunk and post about how his dogs were the ultimate wild bird finding dogs and make all kind of claims. He finally got banned but I couldn't wait to get up in the mornings and read what crazy stuff he had posted during the night. Same with Kuchar thread. It was exciting to see the new stuff posted each day and the ensuing arguments.

What about the thread the guy posted of some weird looking Scotty Cameron that he wanted to know if it was real and everyone told him to send it in for authentication. He said he would and never posted again. There were pages of responses of people asking what he found out that he never responded to.

The Tony Finau Twisted Ankle at the Augusta Masters"thread was a landmark thread.

We had rehab specialists arguing with "real" doctors.  The sports medicine people spent more time trying to sound credible than actually providing input.  We had people saying he would have to wear a boot and he wouldn't play.  It was the most splendid depiction of the Dunning-Kruger Effect ever in the history of WRX.  I enjoyed the thread completely.

If there's one thing Ferguson loves, it's threads filled with "expert" commentary.

The recent Tiger one was fun too --Albeit fun is the wrong word considering the subject matter involved a car crash

But 60% of the posts started with "I wrote my college thesis on California early morning traffic patterns....and here's what i think"

Hmmm, I think someone may have . . . . 😉

LOL, the story is so "TV" - the folks that came up with the story intentionally glossed over his past criminal record and pretty much bought into the guy's BS and presented a fictionalized tale. His criminal history centered around his domestic terrorism issues (California term), restraining order issues and then there was the bogus lawsuit against her.  Except for the seriousness of the issues and the disturbing window into his personality, it was sort of entertaining because he was the Golf Channel hero for a few weeks, but kind of sad in a way because the guy was so obviously out there - they used him in a big way, but he wanted it.

It got more weird later.  She was a potential witness in the Cosby affair, IIRC Cosby's attorney knew CNN was doing a story and had talked to her and wanted CNN to use an angle that Burk was pitching to the Cosby side (he wanted attention) then when CNN determined he wasn't credible the attorney leaked a BS letter about it to get Burk's info out there, CNN then responded that he was FOS and . . . Burk filed a meritless lawsuit against CNN.

Then to add to the weird.  He drifted off to Puerto Rico allegedly some deal to become a pro at some facility, or something like that (not looking it up again, lol, but along those lines), maybe some alleged and other related partnership or promotional relationship for $,  and that "fell through" and he ended up suing anyone and everyone involved down there in federal court - more BS litigation.

As far as I know, never heard from again.

Can you find it and post the link? I'm sure many of us would enjoy the read 🙂
