Always amazes me the people that sit/stand in the landing zone at these events. The ball almost hit the guy and he never moved...nor did the lady sitting 4' away.

I've wondered about that too, and more often than not they aren't even paying attention.

I was standing at that first tee at PB a couple of years ago and was paired with a couple of Millennials I didn't know. I had a caddy and they didn't, which is fine. That first hole is pretty short, and you can run in through the fairway easily.

 

Just before teeing off, one of them turned to my caddy and asked him how far it was to the other side of the fairway straight ahead. Caddy and starter looked at their feet. I remembered a similar situation that someone told me about and told the caddy, "I've got this..."

 

I told the Millennial that it's $145 plus gratuity to the other side of the fairway.

 

The starter shuffled over to me and whispered, "You just became a legend here."

 

 

Cool story bro. When I was there a few months ago, the starter was happy to give aiming advice and no doubt yardages as well. Also there was staff on the 9th and 14th tee for the express purpose of giving aiming / club advice. Maybe it's a Covid thing? Real caddies aren't allowed for now so maybe they have no reason to upsell.

He’s obviously way past that now, but he had some legendary meltdowns when he was a kid. I’m sure it took some hard work to control the temper.

Pardon me if it’s been mentioned.  I’m just now watching today’s round.  
 

how about everyone driving it up on the hill on 6 ?   Pretty funny I think.  It’s something that I see locally a lot.  A hole not being played as designed.

Apparently there are usually grandstands on the hill making that play less advantageous. No fans, no stands.  Fairways are overrated anyway.  😉
