New Edel wedges

Looks like Edel will have a new line launching soon with the addition of milled soles and a new grind option.

Agreed, not sure what to think there yet.  I have always liked their wedges.  The porting is also a welcomed addition if it moves the CG up a little.

It’s a pretty cool grind. It’s been out before. Solus used it, and Phil used it in his Titleist days. The unique thing it does is it takes weight away from the sole giving the wedge a higher cg. It can also be ground to give the leading edge and middle edge two different bounces. Also it lets the sole get in and out of the ground better because there is less surface area and friction.

I am not sure it is a scoped grind ( not sure what else to call it).. Hard to tell by the lighting, it could be.

What is the purpose of a 'milled sole' on a wedge? 

Aesthetics only or is there some real benefit?

I must have been the only person that dug the Solus type wedge sole grind straight into the ground.  It always felt like it just got stuck and wouldn't pass through the ground for me.

Wish I liked his work more, I remember being in highschool and heading down to Edel's garage workshop outside Reedsport.  Guy was machining watches and all sorts of other stuff.  Putters were always funky performers for me, and his wedges are funky looking.

Glad I just replaced three with the old version...lol.

 

But I haven't found a better set of wedges for my game ,TRP and DVR grinds...so flexible, so consistent.

New D and V grinds look excellent.  Think they were previously called DVR and DGR?  Edel has great fitting carts if you can track one down.  Was able to figure it out on my own.  Main reason I went away from my last set was  due to replacing a few bent C-Tapers, and constantly being distracted by shiny new things.

 

Good chance I'll give these a try.  Please add a 64*.

The weighting stuff is long overdue.  Looks great

 

When PXG first came out I thought the screws in their irons would be moveable so you could put heavier ones on the toe

 

I do wish Edel had a straighter leading edge grind option .. much prefer that visually

 

Look for all mfr’s to come out with this wedge weighting format in some shape or form is my guess

If that is the case all those MF'ers are going to raise wedge prices over $200!

 

Edel could definitely benefit from a straighter edge option in their lower lofts.

Me too. Looks like the Edel V grind has better heel relief. So maybe it will perform better than other v grind wedges with an open face.

They have these guys called ... fitters, who vary in quality, and Edel will train them what to look for on Trackman, Foresight, etc. wherever Edel is sold. 

 

IOW, don't worry about Edel training the fitter. Worry about the fitter and whether he cares.

I always referred to it as a bullet sole, looks like Edel calls it a channel grind and it definitely shows better on their site - I think I am going to take hard look as these:

IOW, don't worry about Edel training the fitter. Worry about the fitter and whether he cares.

My buddy runs a club champion and I trust him so I’ll go that route again and take some wedges to the grass and try. I’ll be curious how he gets trained from Edel though.
