Duh. I would hire a cheap detective for $1200, have him find Opinder, then pay Opinder the leftover $300 to make me one of his putters.

Everytime I see that I think of Opinder in his basement like...

I'd fly to the TXG guys for a fitting and just listen to all of the technical wizardry they say go over my head and buy whatever they tell me lol.

Or, I'd get my hometown Low Tide a chance to build me one. Hell, I might do that anyway.

Definitely do it with Ian but a lot of the guys are good.

Also didn't know Low Tide was still making putters, they went quiet like a year ago it seems after a big comeback.

Yeah, I had been talking with them just a few months ago about a custom build. Just noting currently struck my eye as I'm more of a mallet guy. They are super professional and quick to respond to any potential order. I think I'll end up pulling the trigger just because they are quality and from my home town. Even if I don't play it as well as my others, it would be a nice piece to have.

Interesting and I think their blade the Fin is more of a wide blade and the drift is a more normal size blade. Will be interesting to see what you get if you do get one.

I feel like I read a WRX thread here that mentioned Low Tide was not in business, not responsive, and not refunding money on unfulfilled orders. I could be mistaken, but I would definitely purchase through PayPal to protect yourself.

The coolest looking putter that I've ever seen is the Scotty Cameron Coronado that Justin Leonard used to win the 1997 British Open....I still remember watching him at the Byron Nelson in the late 90's roll in about a dozen 15-20 footers in a row on the practice green all from different sides of the hole....freaking amazing.

Assuming I could even find one, I think a new in plastic Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport with the rainbow dots from 2005-2007 would be my pick. Was my dream putter in middle school/high school and I loved one dearly for the short time I had it. I would just love to get my hands on a nice one but all of them on ebay are $300-400 and in truly horrible condition

Yeah, the Fun was the one I'd be getting made for sure. Had a few options they were going to do for me, so I'll reach back out to see what they say now.

Really? I just went to their site and it's still functioning. I'm going to reach back out to them and ask. It would be a shame if they did that to those who had orders in.

I'd go to every golf store in town and spend a while checking out all the putters they had, even the $350 Taylormades (!!) and the $500 (!!!) Camerons that I normally wouldn't even consider. I'd buy the one I thought was working the best for me.

But it's entirely likely I'd end up with a $100-$150 putter even if there were basically no limit on how much I could spend. I've always ended up putting best with putters that aren't particularly expensive.

I won't even talk about my brief nightmarish descent into the world of "boutique" putters a decade or so ago. What a joke.

I'd most likely go with something that I've gamed before in the past and try to have it refinished to original finish, if all possible. One of my favorites was a Scotty Cameron California Monterey 1.5 and even a Nike Method 001. I had some good rounds with the latter although it didn't get a ton of love from the general public.

I won't go into all the details but I was looking for a putter that a) had a maximum legal limit 80 degree lie angle, b) was face balanced and c) did not have alignment marks or any writing on the flange, topline, face or sole and with at most a minimal logo on the back side of the clubhead.

Months of e-mails, phone calls and asking questions in online forums established that none of the "boutique" putter makers (this was circa 2006) were able and/or interested in meeting those specs. They all had a maximum lie angle way short of 80 degrees (typically around 75 degrees), they all wanted their name or logo all over the putter and the face-balanced offerings were limited plus they said it would no longer be face balanced if they bent it upright.

So I settled for a demo putter from an at-the-time popular boutique shop. Cost wasn't as awful ordering a full custom ones (with months of lead time), I think it was just over $400. I was promised that the lie angle would be 75-76 degrees.

I got it and the lie angle was exactly the same any off-the-rack Ping putter at 71 degrees. Maybe bordering on 72. I contacted them and was told it measured 75 degrees on their gauge. I tried it for about a month, hated it, sold it on for about half what I paid. Lesson learned.

Most of the "boutique" stuff comes down to specialized types of metal, various elaborate stampings and other cosmetic geegaws, fancy milling patterns and expensive grips. The basic nature of the putters is usually one of a dozen or so normal everyday putter styles fancied up with lots of eye candy.

I can only imagine how upset I'd have been if I'd paid twice as much and waited out an eight-month lead time to get a putter that wasn't what I ordered and didn't suit me at all.

I can see the frustration trying to get what you want, probably a lot easier these days honestly with the skills and abilities putter makers have, I'm not trying to sway you back into one.

But for me as a lefty these putter markers are there to get me what I want because OTR no one makes what I want or what I putt best with. So sadly for me I have to go that route and I'm often getting basic metals, I put on grips I prefer, minimal stamping, etc. I guess it's more eye of the beholder in what they want, some guys need flashy, others just want a putter that works.

I'd go through an extensive putter fitting and buy whatever they tell me to buy rather than continuing to buy what I think looks good.

By the sounds of it Goodwood won't be doing custom orders going forward.

@agood3putt I would get a fitting and find out what best suits me, then find something cool in line with that on ebay, classifieds, etc. and pocket the rest.

Let me backtrack a little. Per his last IG post from almost a month ago, "custom orders will be very limited. I will have "stock" putters along with occasional special drops."

That's fair maybe overwhelmed or life changes. At least he's making putters and doing it more on his watch than trying to keep up with orders.
