Anyone Have An Idea of What TM’s Driver Plans Are for 2022?

One must remember that trademark postings can often be defensive, to keep a competitor from using it (ie. Carbonwood and Matrixwood). Trademarks can be used as descriptors for a new product or technology for a new product.   Stealth could be a good Trademark and while they may surprise me, I don't expect it to be part of the name in the next generation metal woods, it could be a nod to the next generation (late 2022/early 2023). One must not forget that some of these "working" names are also cover for prototypes. So the "Solo" reference may be true. But it most assuredly won't be the name of a new product. Interestingly the only major golf companies that draw any interest in new trademarks are TaylorMade and Callaway!  I can't say anything more.

So Matrixwood? As in... I am quoting..."For the internals of the driver, we are greeted with the familiar PXG honeycomb TPE insert to dampen acoustics and increase feel, which brings us to the final parts of the puzzle—the face and sole."

I have no idea, just a little speculation....

Just name it RBMS.  All the technology of the Burner, the R series, the M series, and the SIM rolled into one.   Acronym for RememBer My Slice.  HAHAHA!!  Yes I made myself laugh.

i have to hand it to TM...they are always tight lipped right to the very deadline. I've already seen the new callaway lineup. Be interested to see what TM brings to the table. Funny that the R9 advertised 75 yards of left to right movement(35 with just the weights i think and another 40 with the hosel adjustment) and even the superquad had 28 yards. The epic max advertised 20 yards 14 years later. I'd like MWT to come back to the TM lineup. 5 weight ports and 1 right behind the face on the sole please and thanks.

If you’re 75 yards offline, I think we need to consider lessons and not gear.

Callaway C4 was an all carbon body with metal sole.  I can't imagine all carbon, but can imagine a driver with Carbon top, side, face, and sole with metal strategically placed for weighting.  I'm not sure a red face is the way to go though. 🤣

Definitely. Was just noting that it has to have metal somewhere to get weight up.

Last TXG live on Youtube, someone asked if there will be a new Taylormade SIM driver next year. Ian replied saying yes and no, meaning a new driver is imminent but the SIM naming will be no longer. Not sure if anyone caught that, but found it interesting. Very interested in seeing what's on the horizon.

Me too. Every name change (at least m series and then sim) has been a big leap in performance. I'll be surprised if they can make something that out performs my sim setup. But I'll try it for sure.

I heard tiger got injured because he didn't want to have to play sim2...lol

I like my current gamer. SIM2 8 Degree at 6.75 with Ventus Black 7X, but if TM adds a movable weight back into the equation, I'll be all over it.

Naw I think we can go deeper. I think the next model, the "SIMier" well be speed injected, but this time via the head being filled with a noble gas like Helium which will both increase clubhead speed as well as create a much higher pitched impact sound.

Well its 75 yards either way. So half is movement left if you are hitting the ball on a big fade, and half would be fade bias if you are hitting big hooks. 37.5 yards is still almost double what the epic max can do. i don't know, I run a course and see a lot of banana slicing going on at the range. 75 yards could certainly help those guys out. Of course I'd rather just get the lesson revenue in my pocket.

Ooooh, and the resulting concave carbon crown (when the helium escapes) will produce a sim launcher xl with a center of gravity that is closer to the neutral axis than the cobra ltd.

I like the thought of this driver. Loved my old launcher xl too.

Adjustability in the "Max" fairway line would be great. I have no idea why the easier to launch, higher spinning, more forgiving model has to forego that.

I hit my Sim Max 7w well, but it's too draw biased so I'm shopping around. It would be perfect if I could open the face or flatten the lie angle.

Fitters had adjustable hosel max fairways this year...I assume only so folks could try various shafts. But it makes me hopeful that tm finally joins ping and titleist here.

The thing people take issue with is people repeating the same outdated trope about release cycles and buying driver counts via endorsements. Even people at TaylorMade will admit they got it wrong a number of years ago, but they've been on a consistent release cycle since the M1. And the past few years, most of their non-contracted play has truly been free agents who aren't paid to play the club.

If you want to talk flooding the market and buying endorsements, look no further than Titleist. They have four models drivers on the market this year...four! And it's a poorly kept secret that they've been buying the Darrell Survey driver count on Tour for the past couple of years with tee up money. But fair play to them; TaylorMade used to do it years ago and it was a successful strategy.

As for the next TaylorMade driver...all of the OEMs are making good equipment right now, so I expect the next release to be very good. That said, I absolutely love my SIM2/Tensei 1K combo, so there's almost zero chance I'll rush out to buy whatever's next. It won't be worth it for incremental year over year gains and this is the best setup I've ever played. Of course, talk to me in the spring when the new driver makes my SIM2 look old and busted and I've got major FOMO... 😂  Yes, marketing. They're good at it, but they also make great equipment.

Haven't heard anything. A guess? Flood the market with multiple models, buy even more pro endorsements, maybe release something in an unusual color (worked before)?

Ha! There's another thread where a new guy was warned "never speak negative about TM or you'll get beat up by a few fanatics on WRX". Don't care. I just don't think TM makes very good clubs - it is half golf and half marketing hype.

Oops, now I've done it.

2015 was the last year TM did anything other than annual release comprising an adjustable weight and non-adjustable weight driver (2 models total per year) but hey don’t let that get in the way of your story 😉
