Club champion acquires TXG (merged)

For me, matty was txg.

The point was that Matt apparently now will still have some involvement with TXG, haven’t seen any statement to this as of yet. It was very obvious by some of comments made by Matt in video that he will still have some involvement, extent of which is unclear as of yet.

He is? I thought he said he would still appear in videos in January that were filmed pre acquisition…

You’re absolutely correct, either forgot that had been mentioned or just wishful thinking 🤦‍♂️

Where did he say this? I heard him say he's gone. Done. No involvement at all going forward and that he has his own video production business and will have zero to do with TXG?

If you're getting confused by Cobra videos they were filmed well before the sale.

Already addressed in thread that misconstrued Cobra video because did not catch statement about video releases still pending prior his to departure- in fact, said same within a very few posts after the one you so graciously quoted.

RB needs to be on more TXG videos.  He's pretty good on camera, and he also swings it at a speed that us normal dudes can relate to. Let's Ian be in the analyst chair

Agree that the addition of RB is a much-needed improvement. I do think that it was a bit of an overcorrection in terms of "comments/questions from the hitter". I felt that while some of his comments were good and helped to move the video along, others felt unnecessary, overly verbose, and bogged things down. A step in the right direction, but he needs to find a happy medium.

Matty Boi has his own youtube channel. It is in the early phases but so far has put out some great videos and looks promising. Looks less gear focused and more instructional at this time, but he did put out his first equipment video and sounds like more to come hopefully in the future.

I just watched his review of the new Callaway driver. Got to say as much as TXG's video's miss him hitting bombs, his new video really missed Ian providing the commentary. Matt standing hitting bombs and trying to talk at the same time/or cut to do so really wasn't the fun that we are used to.

The How To Choose a Wedge video from yesterday was a real snooze fest IMO. It was a very interesting topic, but it just seemed “off” and there was SO much talking to the point that I was fast forwarding through, which I never do. I think the vids have definitely lost some entertainment value.

He could use another person to interact with but then again no other youtuber really  has that. Maybe he just needs to do a bit better with edits. No intro or music or any of that.

Was a good live stream and you get to see Matt as Matt, not as a duo doing Golf Content. His mental health struggle and journey to get better is much easier to hear about directly from him in this format then from the TXG channel. Kudo's to Matt for talking about a difficult topic we can only hope its therapeutic for him to do so. We all love this game and watch content about the game: this live was more personal and about topics far more meaningful than golf.

No CC/TXG conspiracies, just different directions and wishing the best for his friends (not past tense). Those that want to support Matt and his new efforts (and charity for mental health treatment) should check it out. Those that want to poop on TXG should focus it on the CC threads where people report about actual bad experiences (seems to be plenty of them) and remember that's CC, not TXG who I can't recall having a trail of bad experience threads at all.

Yea, he wont say it because he is such a good guy but he helped build txg up and then got ditched on payday. Pretty sad.

Kind of how I see it as well. As an American, I would have had no idea txg existed without the YouTube channel. Ian and Matt just worked perfectly on air together. Whatever chemistry is needed for 2 on air personalities to have “it” is, those two had it for me.

That channel was huge at least in terms of American growth for their brand. I knew plenty of guys in the us who bought their gear (bags, etc) and either went up there for fittings or planed to solely because of how awesome the channel was.

As someone who used to look forward to new TXG Vids, hop on Monday livestreams, and watch every video - one key takeaway here is just how much value good marketing has.

For the last 2 years I've been saying "when we get through this whole pandemic thing, I'm going to book a trip to see Ian and buy a full setup from TXG".  Since the split, not only have I not enjoyed the content nearly as much, but I no longer have any interest in spending that type of cash on the experience.

Now part of this is because I've had 2 underwhelming experiences with Club Champion (my general opinion was that the focus is to optimize with the most expensive options even when a cheaper option will do just as well - but ymmv).  But another part is that Matt was a big part of the experience.

Since his departure, the look of the videos has declined (lighting, focus, sound), the content has declined, the discussion has declined, and the test swing quality has declined (all my opinion obv).  It no longer feels like the world class, polished, professional shop that I'd be willing to spend thousands to visit.

All that said, I still believe Ian to be one of the best fitters on earth.  I also don't hold the partnership piece against him.  Business is business and if he built the business and payed Matt as a marketing consultant with no promises of making him a co-owner - then that was the contract and it sounds like he honored it.

Still - to my original point - I just don't care about the brand like I once did, and that speaks to the additional value Matt brought - likely above what he negotiated and received in compensation.

I feel the exact same way. Looked forward like none other to every one of their videos and now that’s gone.

I have not watched TXG since Matty left. And I'm pretty sure I never will.

But I'm watching Matty's channel, which I like.

Yea my watching of txg has declined dramatically, I still occasionally click one if something interests me… their latest, just RB and Mike…. Painful. They are trying, so I dont mean to pick on them, but the quality of content has suffered badly. I think RB has good technical knowledge with equipment, so he offers something. The vibe has very much turned into club-championish where truth takes a backseat sometimes.

It was one of the worst golf business decisions in recent memory. In order to save costs or personel or whatever - whoever's decision it was - to cut out Matt and not only not bring him in closer and solidify him as par of the new TXG/CC they actually completely ruined the brand and the marketing and did just the opposite. They would have made money hand over fist by keeping Matt but instead now they will be losing money and customers and etc for many of the reasons you just stated.

It's like when you see a business fighting over something with a cost of $100 but it ends up costing them $100,000 worth of future business and etc if they would have just bit their lip and played the game properly.

Really stupid business move. Comical, actually. Makes you wonder if the person who made these decisions for the YT channel and for Matt really knows what they're doing at all.
