Hmm. “Draw bunker shot.”

Tiger has talked about putting draw spin on chip shots to take spin off.

I must have watched a different match cause the one I saw wasn't very entertaining. The banter and trash talk was weak. Rory didn't seem very engaged and Tiger doesn't have a great personality at the best of times and barely spoke tonight.

The good news however is they raised a lot of money to help people who really need it.

Agree. I thought some of the forced convos were  cringe. Like I said earlier the Trash talk was weak. Golfers are the most uptight corporate endorsed athletes, this so called trash talk on tv is the equivalent of a dad joke. But all in all it was fairly entertaining for a Mid-December Saturday evening.

That’s why I said “normally.” That means there are some abnormalities like Faldo and Arod.

Herbstreit (ESPN/ABC and Amazon), Trevor Immelman tonight (CBS/Turner). There are more. While CBS shares the NCAA basketball tournament with TBS/TNT CBS doesn't have anything to do with The Match series. Brian Anderson also calls MLB outside of TBS/TNT. He works for Fox, Bally Sports, B10 Network. More and more announcers from many networks are regularly crossing over to others these days due to the changed broadcast landscape.

Young prime Tiger could probably exceed 190.  That is incredible he can still generate that kind of speed.  Faster than most.

think tiger's switching balls to get more roll. Fun facts, the sand and pinestraw at pgc is from same vendors for that little club in georgia.

I am a novice when it comes to this, but how could TW be 20+ yards behind these guys when ball speed was within 1/2 mph.  I mean all of these guys are optimized, correct?

Spin.

Those Bridgestones spin a ton, even the "lower" spin one it was being sold T-Dub went to for this.

Totally why I went back to ProV1s. I love the feel of the Bridgestones but I was seriously losing some real distance with them.

Tiger always tees it super low, he uses short tees. It's more controllable for Tiger he says and is more similar to an iron. Tigers tend to come out more spinny vs. teeing it up higher like Rory or JT.

I think tiger hits a more spinny cut most of the time.

Bingo, you can see on some of the shot tracers, it looks like he's hitting a 20+ yard "cut" with a lot of the drives.  Not optimized at all but if he needs to hit that kind of shot due to physical limitations or he just refuses to hit a draw, who knows.

I think we can all agree the highlight of the show was Barkley.  I can't wait for The Match 8 - Charles vs a plate of cheese fries.

I watched it and did enjoy the JS & JT Pairing, I thought they played well considering. Anyone else who's played at night knows it's more challenging, there are a few courses in Florida that offer night golf and it's deffinetely different. I expected it ( night golf ) to be the equalizer but it was not. JS & JT Showed thier superiority even in those conditions. Anyone else see the looks on Tigers face, his age and pain shows, it's unmistakable he's 45+ years old and his body is beaten up and his expessions show pain or grimmece.

Unfortunately this game has evolved to a young mans sport, the days of the shot makers, scramble masters and golf artist seem to be gone or the youngsters are just as good at it versus the old days. If you follow Golf on Youtube, theres alot of youngsters who practice, work on trick shots much more than back in the 60's, 70's 80's and it shows. My take was JS & JT have great chemistry, game and can beat anyone, I felt they out matched RM & TW, No contest, Tiger was average and really didnt bring anything to the team and Rory acted like he didnt want to be there. The young guns won again by a landslide, it would have been much more exciting to see Rahm & Scheffler, or Schauflee & Burns, in my opinion. Someone mentioned OLD Versus new theme, which would have been exciting bringing F Couples & A Jimenz or even B Langer & S Alker, or S Stricker & P Harrington if you wanted to play the Old versus new Card. Rory and Tiger were just outclassed.

I thought the commentary was pretty good, except for when they went to the AT&T part on the range, the audio was terrible and not relly good for an advertiser, I was expecting them to cut it but it kept on playing but overall it was a good event that raised a bunch of money for a good cause.

Thanks

I enjoyed it.

After JS went through the process of hitting the bunker shot on the 2nd? hole I was hoping for a LOT more of that throughout the match. Unfortunately (for me) that didn't happen.

To me, it felt like Tigers' lack of communication was an effort for the other guys to become more engaged, participate more rather than making it just about Tiger.

Rory def lacked emotion IMO. Almost seemed like he hadn't had much sleep for the last few days. Burn out? He has been playing quite a bit lately around the world.

JT and JS hit some shots. Great ham and egg pairing.

All in all, I'm glad I watched and would watch again. Like most everything there's always room for improvement which I'd assume will happen going forward.

The audio debacle had to be embarrassing.

Yeah for pure entertainment value there are other players who would have been more fun to watch and listen to. Max Homa, Shane Lowry, anyone with a fun demeanor. Unfortunately that kind of lineup would limit the audience to people who already watch golf. Having Tiger and OWGR#1 grows the audience tremendously.

Agree for the most part. Tiger has always been a little awkward in these things, and now his game isn't up to snuff. Rory doesn't strike me as a really outgoing guy, nice enough, but kinda quiet. Just listen during a regular tourney when these guys talk to their caddies. JT and Bones banter a bit, much like Phil and Bones did, and then there's Spieth and his shrink Gellar analyzing everything while moving a getting ready to play.

As for the audio, that part sure was embarrassing for AT&T.

Was not must see TV, but nice background action.

The format was not very well considered. Instead of a 14 hole match play, they should played 7 and 7 both a set amount and bonus for the 14 - or some such format that would still keep it interesting if one team got way up fast.

They absolutely need to do strokeplay on something like this to keep from this happening.  12 holes and its over on 9 and everyone just throws in the towel.  At least strokeplay gets us the full 12 holes.

And as soon as Rory and Tiger went 3 down, they totally shut up and focused on winning.  Which was boring

They would be able to show the 278 commercials Barkley said were still left, lol.
