Woodland's golf ball marked through

Woodland's golf ball appeared to have a mark through the brand name. Seemed strange. I could find nothing on Google.

He's a Wilson guy and he's playing a Pro V1x, I imagine he marks it through so the casual person doesn't notice the lack of a Wilson golf ball.

Doubtful. He probably just doesn't have a ball deal. Harrington and Brendan Steele I think are both Titleist ball guys and don't mark out the Titleist on their balls. Currently the only Wilson staffer playing their ball is Ricky Barnes, which is probably not the best endorsement, lol. Regardless, Woodland is likely to have a ball deal soon enough now.

I didn't even realise that Wilson still made golf balls.

He played B stone for a while recently ( last 2 years ) so I’m guessing doesn’t want to advertise for someone not paying him.

Maybe that's how he marks his balls for identification. There are plenty of guys on tour who play clubs of one brand and a ball of a different brand....I doubt Wilson makes him "black out" the word Titleist on his golf ball as a part of his club deal.

That’s how I like to mark my ball too. Pink marker? Thats what I use, he’s a little better than me though.

Pretty cool if you think that. Rest assured that there isn't a Pro on Tour buying a golf ball. Woodland likely hasn't bought a golf ball since he was in high school.

I bet it is a combination of not wanting to give Titleist free publicity and marking the ball for identification purposes.

Before he switched to the ProV1x, he was using a Bridgestone ball. He marked through the B on those as well.

I came across a good deal on some Titleist X outs on line. I'll send him the link.

That's not true. Plenty of stories of seeing pros at Golf Galaxy buying a dozen. There is even a story in Golf Digest this month about a pro that went to buy a dozen, found out the price, and only bought a sleeve.

I dont think he was marking out the Titleist logo for marketing purposes. He was using the red line (over Titleist) as a putting line as well.

Didn't he have Puma shoes and apparel on as well? Love the shoes.

Notice how he lined up his putts with that line? Things that make you go hmmmm.

yeah but why mark out the titleist instead of the prov1x logo like everyone else...its like he wants his mark to be unique or something silly like that..

When your playing the same brand ball as 100 other guys on the same course it makes sense, you don't want to play the wrong one out the rough that someone lost on Tuesday.

When you're getting paid to have WILSON splashed over all your clothing and gear, it makes sense to cover up the word TITLEIST on your (non-Wilson, non-paid-for) golf ball that's going to appear on TV dozens of times during the week.

Yep, for instance if he puts a line through the Pro V1x branding, how does he differentiate it from the 60 odd other guys playing a V1x with a line through it.

Well, given he was wearing Puma clothes and shoes, with a Wilson hat, while having Ping woods, Vokey wedges, and a Scotty putter, I'm pretty sure Wilson isn't dictating that he has to put a line through the brand on his ball. It's just how he marks his ball that is different from every other guy out there who is also playing a ProV1X and what he also uses for alignment, as mentioned earlier in the thread. A lot of guys don't have ball deals and play various manufacturers who also make balls and never cover up the logo, it's just what he likes to do.

I got an email from Titleist with the subject line Major Switch = Major Proof. It states in his 4th start since putting the pro V1 into play he wins a major. I would think he has a ball contract with them now.

Wilson Duo's are pretty good for the price point (about 20$ a dozen)

Maybe he likes a thicker line for putting? The Titleist logo is thicker and more prominent than the ProV1 line thing. That's what I suspected, anyway.

Notice he also put a blue line over the Prov1...... What wood covers were on his bag? Were they Wilson or non-specific?
