I would shake holding that putter. That thing has done a lot of damage to careers over the years.

I am sure this thread will be more around the talk of the new irons, but I am surprised the driver has made it this long. I guess, in his mind, he is blaming himself/swing and not the club for the poor driving...but it's hard not remembering how much better he was doing with the old driver before he switched over. From the ouside looking in, the older one just definetely seemed to fit him better. He doesn't strike me as the person that needs a contract with TM that says he will always play the newest stuff either, I would think he has the stature to push back a little there if he wanted to.

 

He hasn't driven it great but I think there has been a somewhat steady improvement between tournaments. Augusta was shaky but the last day he drove it great.

Maybe it's just me but those irons appear to have more than the standard/normal number of grooves for a blade? Does it look like they are extra close together to y'all?

 

I count 16 groves on his 4-iron. I play MP-18s and my 4-iron is actually up in my office. I just counted its groves and it has 12. I have an old SM5 58* up here, too, and it has 17 grooves--only one more than Tiger's new 4-iron.

As to be expected the blades look amazing. I'm not a big chrome guy but those are still lovely.

 

Doesn't seem to be a lot going on with the sole - no special grinds or relief. At least not from the photos posted.

Not a fan of TM irons in general, but release those and I'd buy them in a heartbeat. Wonder if Mike Taylor forged these for TM?

 

No... Miura has done them by hand for Tiger personally ever since his Mizuno days. They’re all just Mizuno copies. (Insert super sarcasm eye-roll smiley that I can’t find on the mobile site.)

This is correct. Scotty has made quite a few “exact” copies but Tiger says they never feel exactly the same. There was a story on this forum just recently about a backup selling for $44,000.

 

I’m sure some of it is psychological. THAT particular putter has won him so many tournaments that no putter could ever live up to it. Makes sense to me. There is a mystique about it now, even to him. It’s sort of like Arthur’s Excalibur.

At the same time experimenting. And a lot of it could just be between the ears, but he also drove it pretty well for "him" this past winter when he was using the M2. Without looking at stats and truely comparing courses, hard to call that a 1:1 I know...just seems like the comfort level and the results were much better before the switch.

What really has changed from 1950s forged muscle backs. Other than weight savings with shorter hosels in part due to modern adhesives the muscle goes up and down, convex or concave, hardly technology.. Maybe they should bring back MacGregor split sole..
