Your history - more drivers or more putters

Driver drivers drivers. In the last 10 years I've had approx 3 putters. I've had at least 30 drivers in that time.

Drivers since the invention of the changeable heads. I will swap driver heads at the drop of a hat. I have had 2 putters in the last 10 years but have had every Cobra head and a few of the TM.

Easily drivers. Currently I probably have about 8 putters & maybe 40 drivers piled up in the garage. Sold about 20 during the winter, so I am working on it...sort of...

It's drivers for me. I've got a decent collection of putters, but when I started building my own clubs around the turn of the century, I found myself experimenting quite a bit. Have a number of closeout component sticks built, just to test this or that shaft in some cases.

Turns out learning to regrip your own is a gateway drug.

Then I started picking up persimmons, especially Ram persimmons. They can add up quickly. LOL

I have had 20 something drivers to 4 putters and the 4th is a backup. Kid has 1 other and the last is hidden away was my grandfathers.

I've always felt it was the indian, not the arrow. I've been using the same ping answer for 30+ years and just recently purchased a slight used Titleist newport beach. Also just went from Tmade burner bubble driver to a M1. I probably have more wedges than anything else.

Definitely Drivers for me.

I've only bought and played with 5 putters since the late 90's: (1) Yonex Super A.D.X. Tour Forged [still own] (2) Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Laguna 1.5 [sold] (3) Piretti Matera 375gm [gave to my brother] (4) EVNROLL ER2 [gamer for the past 3 years] (5) SIK SHO Arm Lock [was experimenting last year]

I usually hold on to drivers for a few years before changing out but I know for a fact I've had more than 5 since 2000

Putters for me.

I believe the cause n effect to this question is which area of the game you are better at? If you are a better driver of the ball (like me) you will come to the point where testing & fitting analysis will tell you that's the one for you and decide to stay with it.

I'm not as good of a putter compared to my driving so I've been through many more putters looking for that magic one!

I have bought more putters over the last 20 years or so.

Although by the standards of this board, I probably haven't bought a large number of either.

In Play? More drivers have spent time in my bag than putters.

G400 isn't going away anytime soon and it's been in there for almost a year. Driving better than ever.

That said, I have an affinity for nice putters and always have more on hand than drivers. Only 3 drivers on hand currently ( they get sold or traded in), while there are more than 10 putters hanging around.

Current Toulon has been in for about 4 months and sees the majority of course time, but I'll throw a different flatstick in the bag on a whim.

Played a round with my Bettinardi '16 Tiki last week and made a bunch of putts.

Putters. Shopping for cheap putters on ebay and at resale shops is one of my cures for boredom. Most of them never make it past the practice green.

I generally go with a newer driver/shaft combo every year, but when it comes to Putters it could be as high as a different dozen a year. It’s a thing with me. Bought and sold at least 6 already this year. I know I have a problem but just can’t admit it yet.

Drivers by a staggering number over putters. Sometimes 2 to 3 per year

Right now I probably have 4 I will use with some regularity … Scotty X7M, Yes Donna, Piretti Matera Elite, and Ping Sigma2 Tyne4.

Fairway woods way worse than drivers even .. thank goodness that wasn't part of the ratio asked

The interesting thing is I have more putters on hand than drivers .. maybe 25 putters right now to 10 drivers. I tend to flip drivers out once I know I have a better mouse trap

If a driver was amazing for a long stretch I keep … Rapture OG, Adams 9015d and 9016d, TM 2016 m2, G400 LST. Just recently got rid of a Rapture v2, GBB 2015 and a 410LST

Up until adjustable drivers came along, it was probably pretty even. Now, I can just buy heads and plug them into my favorite shaft. I played seven models of Adams/TM/Srixon drivers from 2008 to 2018 with the same shaft, just changed the adapter on it. In that same time period I used three different putters.

I'm a 1 bride guy...I buy 1 putter at a time and give it a go for several weeks to see how i like it. If it fails the test then it hangs around long enough to get sold. I only ever have 1 putter. If I have 2 then one is pending sale. I eliminate the thought to swap putters by only having 1 around. I then work to be as consistent as possible with the 1 I have. I don't have a need or desire to buy a bunch of putters because they look good. Just how I roll mentally.

Same goes for drivers. Only time I had more than 1 driver (excluding times when I'm testing for a new one) is when I bought a backup 16m2 for my 16m2 gamer.

Drivers for sure. I must have at least 20 of them (all old and used from mostly thrift stores) in my basement and lost count yet I can count on one hand how many putters I have (a Titleist Bullseye, Ping Anser 2, and a Rife..that's it).

In times like this, why must one make me think about all of the money I have wasted on golf equipment over the past 30 years? Next someone is going to ask me how much money I have spent on drinking and what I have gotten from it. What's the world coming to...

I went through a few putters until I found one that finally made sense to me. I used that one for quite a while until I found one I love. I'll probably be buried with this one.

I used to play with a strong 3wood, instead of a driver. Then, I borrowed one of my foursome's drivers during one of those drunken charity events and got hooked. I've gotten a bunch of used drivers to experiment with, but the second one I got (an FT-9) is the one I love and use the most. It's the most versatile (if not the longest), it feels great, and I can hit it off the fairway.

I've spent WAY more on drivers but only averaged 2 per year. I've bought/sold more putters than I care to think of.

My frustration is that I tend to find the right driver faster (for the moment) thus leading to the thought that spending more on one club may lead to satisfaction.

Unfortunately, my brain won't solve that riddle when it comes to the flatstick.

I've definitely had more than 300 putters over the last 35-40 years but probably only 20 odd drivers.

I collect putters, so this is an easy topic for me. Majority of putters I bought will never be gamed.

In term of "gamers", number for drivers and that for putters are pretty even. Probably a new one every 4-5 years.

Drivers.... Partially because I probably pay more for my drivers than most putters. I think I have paid more than $300 maybe once for a putter, but probably 10 drivers at least that amount.

That's a tough one, but I think it's probably more putters for me. I've been through a bunch of them -- probably around 10 Byrons alone. I've tried a lot of different styles, too -- arm lock, belly (when it was legal), counterbalanced, standard, blades, half mallets, mallets, you name it. The trials of a mediocre putter. I finally went ahead and had Byron make me a custom putter late last year after sticking with a very similar one almost all of last year, so I'm hoping this will be the end of the cycle of buying and selling. I've gone through a lot of drivers, too, especially when you talk about shafts, but I've rarely used more than 2 different driver heads in a year, and there have been years where I've bought and sold a half dozen different putters.

Previous driver was in the bag for 9 years, spent $400 on it. Just went to a new setup this year, fitting, shaft and head $470 invested.

Both dwarf in comparison to dropping $1,600 on a Tyson Lamb putter at the end of 2019 though.
