Kirkland Signature (Costco) golf balls (MERGED) (NO BST POSTS)

Hmmmmm. I wonder who blinked.

Guessing they both realized that a legal battle was a waste of time and only the lawyers, as usual, were going to win.

Sorry to any lawyers I've offended.

That's my guess too, they are both paying their own attorney fees which usually means both sides agreed to end it.

Little Titleist poked the sleeping giant that is Costco a bit too much. Costco would've crushed Tittly like an ant vs Godzilla. Titleist blinked first.

Right. The company with all the patents "blinked first".

The whole issue is likely moot at this point as Costco has exhausted its original grey-market supply of K-Sigs and the existing Kirkland ball is nothing to worry about.

My thought, too. I don't know about the patent stuff, but I believe they sued over Costco's Kirkland guarantee. I never thought that lawsuit had any footing because how is it decided who has the best ball and whether or not Kirkland's balls are just as good? It's subjective.

So more Kirklands available in time for Christmas?

The K3 has been available since its release earlier this year. There is a new 4 piece KSig ball on the conforming list. However it's not the same ball as the original KSig. The original KSig has been removed from the USGA ball list.

So there have been three versions of the KSig? I was told there were only 2.

I think it's absolutely clear how it's decided, and that's why I thought the lawsuit had no merit. It's up the the individual consumer. If I think they are "as good as the leading name brand"" (or however exactly it's worded), I will keep the ball. If you don't believe they are as good you can return them no questions asked. As long as Costco honored the return (which they do to a fault) I didn't see where the "leading manufacturers" can complain. Or at least win a lawsuit.

I do agree about the lawsuit it's self, though. My understanding is that they were complaining about the claims of the guarantee. I don't think it was ever a copyright issue.

We've seen two versions and there is allegedly a third coming...someday. There has been a tendency to release them the week of the Masters...but let's see if we have to wait that long. My marketing friend from Costco has been very closed mouthed for a while now. Even bribed her with some KSigs but alas, that went no where.

Two versions that have been released. The Original 4 piece KSig (360 dimples) and the 3 piece ball that is available now. There is a new 4 piece ball (338 dimples, new side stamp) that has been on the USGA conforming ball list for months but has not been sold yet. The original 4 piece KSig ball is likely dead and gone.

That is my understanding as well, they didn't like that the packaging called out the Pro V1. Most likely Costco agreed to remove the Pro V1 comparison and both sides agreed that there's no way to validate if Costco's claims were accurate because as we know some brands and models work better for some than others.

I don't recall it comparing to the Pro V1 specifically. All I remember is the generic Kirkland guarantee to "meet or exceed the quality of the leading national brands".

The Titleist lawsuit was for patent infringement and false advertising. They disputed the statement that Kirkland Signature products "meet or exceed the quality standards of leading national brands." They also claimed that Costco never did testing to validate the statement. Costco responded and said...“Costco has never publicly compared the KS ball with any Acushnet ball, including Acushnet’s Pro V1 golf balls” so because it was a general statement, it wasn't false advertising.

A small K-Sig shaped box came from UPS yesterday and now it's wrapped with my name on it under the tree :superman:

K4 is my #1 right now but I'm open to gaming the K3. Consensus is that they're similar in most ways but the K3 was found to have more spin off of the short clubs, correct?

That is true from my perspective regarding the spin and I found that I hit the K3 a lot higher than the original and my Bridgestone Tour B XS gamer. Plus the K3 is really shiny - took some getting used to for me.

for me....it was more spin off every club. Didn't mind the shiny-ness...YMMV

So, how long until the OG 4piece reaches new highs on eBay?

After all, if they aren’t making any more, it’s now a limited-supply item. Just like when an artist dies, all their paintings go up in value.

Pretty sure I’m gonna be able to retire on my KSig money.

There's more spin off every club, but the less loft the more negligible it is. Off the driver the spin is pretty much the same, maybe 50-100RPM more. The spin separates by a few hundred RPM every time you go down a club. So by the time you are in the short irons and wedges you might have 1000 or more RPM's of spin.

i'll have to try again. could've been my swing of course, however I found much more ballooning flight off the driver, more sidespin (draws turning into hooks and fades turning into slices) than when I played the OG Ksigs. the K3 also suck back rather than stop like the Ksigs. I still have 2 dz which I plan on losing using this winter.

how much more spin? I couldn't tell you any range of numbers. just what I observed for me.

Yeah because the cover sucked.

The new 4 piece is decent. The 3 piece is actually a very choice ball, in my mind. It has a little too much sheen / shimmer on it but, it's a very decent ball. Neither are better than Snell MTB black or red but, they're definitely alright.

Whoa! Hold on there, Mr. Staight Shooter. What do you know about the new K-sig 4 piece ball? You've played this ball... under what circumstances?
