I've had the Epic Flash in my bag, along with the fairway woods and been playing them since December 5th. They are for real!

I've been playing the standard Flash for a month now.

I like it waaaay better than the Rogue standard. All in all, it performs similarly as far as launch and spin. However, lower on the face (my more normal mishit), the Rogue seemed to be a dud. I also never liked the sound of the Rogue.

 

The Flash gives it a good "thwack" without sounding 'tingy.' I launch it higher than the Rogue with the same loft and flex. I feel more accurate and confident with the Flash than I ever did with the Rogue. My low on the face mishit is not penalized nearly as much as on the Rogue.

 

I am currently experimenting with a couple of shafts to see what I really fall in love with, but without a doubt when I swap the Flash head for the Rogue head, I much prefer the Flash for sound, feel, and accuracy on my mishits.

I'd love to know how you feel about that Evenflow Green Shaft in the Driver and FW. Have you tried any other shafts in it? I used the Evenflow blue last year for a bit.

 

I've very much looking forward to getting my 2019 Apex/Pro Combo set and my Flash FW.

Yep. My pro shop owner who is on staff with callaway has been playing it since early December. His is the one I tested and reported here wayyy back then.

The use of the term "AI" might be, but machine learning optimization approaches are valid and can provide non-intuitive, highly efficient design solutions. Per the pictures of the backside of the face, it is highly unlikely that a design engineer came up with that solution based on first principles.

I'm really liking the Evenflow Green. How much the shaft and the technology in the head are each contributing to my increased distance is certainly up for debate. The only other shaft I was tested with when I was fitted was a lighter flex in the Evenflow Green. Since that shaft is the standard shaft that is what my fitter started with and based on results we just went back and forth on flex.

 

How's the sound for you? Rick Shiels was not a fan the sound.

Came here to say that's gotta be the FUGLIEST HEAD COVER OF ALL TIMEEEEEE. Thankfully I use aftermarket covers but my gosh what is that abomination.

 

Otherwise looks solid. Small gains in speed... I mean it does as advertised. Anybody who thinks going from one model to the very next will net you massive distance gains is a fool.

Sometimes I begin to think they intentionally make these things ugly so they can try to up sell their custom colorways. The all black looks incredible... why would you not make that stock??? You don't need some crazy bright lemon lime thing to attract attention - they certainly do enough marketing via social media and commercials.

Yeah but for as many people that recognize it because it's bright (and maybe buy), you probably turn away as many for the same reason. I know it's just the bottom of the club, but for those of us that ride most of the time and don't put the head cover back on after every use... you gotta stare at that thing for a full round.

 

I don't care what anybody says... if you are spending $550 on a driver you better LOVE every single thing about it.

It's not that ugly. I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And, if the color of the bottom is a deal breaker, so be it. You can likely get similar performance from any other OEM these days anyhow. There aren't too many options available that aren't featuring some sort of pop to the sole of the club, whether it's a bold color or large graphics of some sort. I like Titleist's minimalist approach myself. But, I guess the color isn't as big of a deal to me.

Did you try it yet? I would imagine that they don't have any plans on altering the sound now that they are shipping units in a few weeks. If it's like the Titleist 915 or Ping G/G30, I will be mightily disappointed. If it is more of a hollow sound (thinking FT-5, FT-9), I can live with it.

From what I have heard on the videos, the sound is nothing like what the Ping G30 was. That being said I played baseball growing up so don't mind the aluminum bat sound.

 

Excited to try the Epic Flash SZ and looks like it will be competition between that, the TS3, and the new 0311X to try and unseat my tour issue Epic SZ.

I don't know. With how few have actually hit it, I welcome info from any perspective at this point. It isn't a grand conspiracy. He is here sharing information, why would he have to disclose the fact that he got the equipment for free? Do you not value his opinion because of that? What about the Callaway staffers that have shared their experience? Should we just write their opinion off because they got the club for free? They have done those trips in the past here too. I think 2016 was the last? Just because they went on a trip didn't skew them towards Callaway. MtlJeff was on that trip and I think he has been as far from partial as I have seen. Knudson who is now a mod here went on one of these trips in 2013 I believe. There are a plethora of others too.

I know it was only a video review but man the sound in RS review of these drivers was awful. Club showed some solid numbers tho.
