How do I go about ordering the upcharged Ventus black and making sure it is not tipped?

Standard tipping from TM is 1". Do I select 1" soft in the tipping adjustment or call them?

I believe that is correct. Interestingly, if you select the stock Ventus Blue, there is no option to tip less. So I guess the standard 1" is only on true aftermarket shafts?

 

There have been differing answers to this. Some say TM will swingweight and others have said they do not. I don't believe we have ever heard directly from TM.

Thanks. I hope to get a more concrete answer on which weight I can replace since my assumption is if I increase the weight in the back of the club the spin will increase. Maybe negligible but still.

The increase in spin would be negligible. A heavier weight in the front track, if you go sim, would be more significant....would increase gear effect.

I always have lead tape on my driver...always. I have 2 swingweight points worth on my m5.

Just got off the phone with TM and asked about the tipping. He said they follow the manufactures recommendation but when I mentioned Fujikura recommends not tipping the Ventus Black he said he would look into it and email me back.

So my Pre-order of the SIM in 8* with Ventus Black 7x is on standby.

I think most manufacturer's recommendation is no tipping for drivers. Fujikura, MCA/Aldila, and Graphite Design all recommend 0" tipping for drivers in their communication materials.

 

I was under the impression TM decided on their standard tipping based on the adapter/bore depth/etc. of their clubs.

Just tried asking TM via their chat on the website whether "standard" TM tipping on all drivers and fairways was 1". Rep said that info is not public so he can't give it out. WTH @TaylorMade Golf !!!

At this point @TaylorMade Golf is shooting themselves in the foot. There's no chance I'll pull the trigger on a upcharge shaft from TM if they can't confirm what their "standard" tipping is (because on the Custom site everything is based off of "standard"). One would assume that the max "soft" on driver and fairway shafts thru Custom is -1" so standard tipping would be 1". But they should confirm it.

Small rant: Talking to discount dan and I asked if TM would FINALLY take swing weight requests... they told me that their rep told them they would eventually but their system isn’t set up to take a swing weight request for an order right now. Cmon @TaylorMade Golf its 2020....

I got fit today for the SIM, SIM Max and Mav SZ. Mav SZ won out for me and I was able to go ahead and order it, but I could see a lot of people going with the SIM Max. I really wanted to go w/ a TM this year but couldn't get it dialed in for my specific miss. The Max spun too much for me but the ball speeds were great. The SIM was good, but not as hot of ball speeds for my misses (low in the face) and the Mav SZ appears to have the low CG similar to the Rogue offering more forgiveness on low strikes. SIM Max spun too much for me, SIM and Mav had great spin numbers. Best SIM strike was about 8-10 yards behind my best Mav strike. Both TM and Cally options are great this year, it really comes down to getting the right setup to game your misses and different people are going to find different heads/shafts work better for them than others. All of them look great at address. The SIM setup I had was the lowest spinning setup I've ever had in TM and gave it a real shot to finally be able to land a TM driver in the bag.

Yes, I hit a fade pretty consistently. My miss is typically low in the face and I will typically play for my ball to move about 5-10 yards left to right. My ball stayed pretty straight or fall right on clean strikes w/ the Mavrik and my misses had slight left to right movement. I think all the options between Cally and TM felt great, I just found what worked best for me to game my misses further down the hole. I loved the way the SIM Max felt off the face, but my spin numbers were insane.

My builder told me they tipped everything 1” standard when I ordered my OO Mini Driver and wanted it tipped tipped only 1/2, said 1/2 soft on paper, will try to find it.

Given the options they provide on the custom page, you have to assume the "standard" is tipped 1". You can't adjust anything softer if the standard is untipped.

Just curious, and I’m gonna throw this thing out there, have you ever tried ordering Club‘s from second swing.com. I like about ordering from them is you buy their used clubs if you don’t like them you send them back for a full refund before 45 days or with new equipment they will give you a one time refund, at least they did on my T 300 irons and their prices are the same as everybody else great company unless you’re like me and military and you get a discount from TaylorMade.

Does anyone know much about the Diamana S+ Limited that comes in the SIM? I couldn’t find anything on it on the Mitsubishi site.

I’m thinking the same way and this sounds logical. If I don’t get an answer from TM I’ll more than likely order it 1” soft and somehow get the measurement to the lower graphic and compare it.

This is the way to do it. If you want no tipping, just go as soft as it will allow you to go. Usually that ends up being 1" soft. If you want 0.5" tipping, go all the way soft, then add back 0.5". And so on...

I've ordered so many clubs this way from the custom shop page and all the tip to graphics measurements have come out correct.

I hit the SIM today at PGA Superstore with a Ventus and Diamana Limited Black. Driver looks good and has a muted feel. Problem for me is it was all over the place. It was probably the shafts, but the head felt light and it would get lost on the downswing.

I’m going to go back and maybe try the Max.

Had a chance to try it today at Golf galaxy against my M3. Used the same shaft in each (handcrafted evenflow black). Distance/Swing Speed/Ball Speed wise they were statistically the same, but the biggest difference was the accuracy. With the SiM I was all over the place compared to the M3 which was in my normal window. Think this came down to the head weight / swing weight as it felt super light and was hard to tell where the head was at in the swing.

 

Overall wasn’t blown away and will stick with my M3 moving forward.
