So, quick question, does ping measure their length a little differently than other OEMs?  In the past I’ve mainly played Callaway drivers. When I put the club in an address position and measure with a ruler along the back they’ve always measured out fine. I have a 425 that was ordered at 45” but measures 44.75” using that method. It’s only 1/4” so I’m not overly concerned. Just found out odd that it was different than what I’ve seen in the past.

I guess. Softer mid. Seemed to kind of reminded me of ventus blue on paper?  Txg had a lot of praise for it. I had heard it had a higher balance point. So, thought it would be a good pairing with the heavier head. It’s a higher balance point than I expected which is great. No opportunity to test it so going off of my past success with the blueboard profile and most recently the ventus blue it seemed like a good test.

I think almost every OEM measures drivers with the USGA method (60º or close to it).  If you are using a 48" ruler and just placing it on the ground, you are going to have around a 1/2" error.  Almost everyone that tries to eyeball it will come up shorter.  I've done it for decades and if I try to eyeball it, I come up about 1/2" short almost every time.  I started using the USGA method over 10 years ago and especially for woods.

Heck, I just went downstairs to see how close I could come on my G400 and I was 3/8" short even knowing what I was not supposed to do.  I've heard that the G425 optically looks more upright than the G400 and could lead to even more error.

I remember Callaway adopting the usga method last year. Same physical length. But, listed as 1/4” longer. Which makes sense based on what I’m seeing. Since I typically play a Callaway driver, I’m just used to being able to measure it that way. In any event, it’s a non issue. Now I just have to count down the days until I can actually try this out on the simulator.

Had a brief indoor demo of the 425 Max  against my G400 Max last night on a GC2.  I didn't have a ton of time, and was only able to get in about 20 swings total.  I play my 400 Max with a Tour 65X at 44.5".  Choking down on a Rogue White 70X was the closest I was able to get with the 425.  My brief experience with the 425 tells me that I will not be upgrading.  Both well struck and poorly struck shots were more or less equivalent, with the 425 missing target by a little bigger margin.  I wouldn't make a decision based off of such a small data set, but first impressions simply confirm for me what I have long believed...G400 Max is really, really good.

Max 9* ventus blue 6x 45.5 stock weight gave me a SW of D3.  This is with the arccos grip which I think lightens the SW just a bit.

I'm disappointed the clubs have the arccos grip.  I know the club can be ordered with out it.  IMO it should be the reverse.

Quote me... Holy Grail. As for the soundI like it. Not muted like last years SIM or this years TSi3 but it has it's own sound and feel. I said in another post that is feels like the face is flexing and the walls are thin. To me that translated to a feeling of speed and forgiveness. The sound is not tin can either. I didn't think it sounded abnormal or will get any attention on the tee.

I privy to robot data testing in a very controlled manner. While I cant divulge the data I will say that all the Ping drivers this year are lower spinning higher MOI. The 425 Max is a lower spinning head when compared to the field of all drivers. We will see that as more and more of us test on launch monitors. Within in a few months as many get fitted there will be a lot of discussion about the 425 ball speeds, lower spin with average launch on center and off center hits.

Lastly the lower spin we are seeing from the 425 max (LST as well) is not from a lower launching condition. That is one of the larger variables I have seen looking at data. Just because the driver says 9.0* some are not and some will launch lower and thus reduce spin. Spin divided by launch is a better factor to determine how low spinning a head is.

With the Ping 425 Max giving us good launch, the spin and ball speed numbers are very impressive for center and off center hits are as well. Holy grail stuff here.

 :pimp:

I hit it at Carl's last week and got looks from the other people on the range.  Hitting range balls obviously but pretty loud to me.  May try it again in the spring but have PXG Proto 0811 X and X+ heads coming so I plan on trying those against last years Mavrik to see which wins a spot.

Oh and it’s such a gorgeous head. They actually put a 29 gram weight in it in addition to the 6 grams of hotmelt I requested. The RDX blue must have a pretty high balance point.

PING used this shaft? What was the up charge? I thought for sure OEM’s would use the matte black version with the word hzrdus in blue.
