Ping postponing 2020 Releases

Recommended Posts

Buried in a story on Covid-19 and the golf industry that dropped today was the statement Ping has already decided to push all summer 2020 launches into 2021. I am guessing this would not be published unless they had verification but who knows. Kinda sucks because I was looking forward to seeing the new irons but at least I know my i210s are going to be with me another full season.

And that's a GOOD thing.

I'm more interested in the government contracts mention. I'm now picturing Ping as a company that really designs fountains pens that shoot off lazer guided projectiles (color coded of course) with t

Ok, another update. Went to play this afternoon and spoke to my pro who is a Ping Staffer. I told him what I heard. He got on the phone right there and called his rep. Before I left his office he had

Do you have a source for this? Not surprising but curious to see if it can be fact checked.

It wouldn't shock me if they ALL postponed their releases. Companies are going to have a heck of a time shedding inventory. There may be deals to be had this summer and fall because of it.

Gotcha. You can dm me. I work as a fitter and checked with my ping rep after I saw this. He is currently unaware of any delays. He could just be saying that as a company line or he may not be told anything yet.

I just know that if one release is delayed it could snow ball very quickly from one to the next to the next. These things are planned out 3-4 years in advance.

i did read they (Ping) have closed they production floor. Many other companies have some form or layoff or furlough going on. Pretty sad.

Hopefully the water gets turned on soon. You can say these companies charge too much. But then you see the people behind the products and their lives and families being affected just like the rest of us. These companies need constant influx just like all of us.

I’m calling “BS” on this one. I watched the latest episode of TXG with Chris Voshall from Mizuno tonight. He talked a bit about their release of the new JPX line late this summer that they are definitely releasing this year. I’m sure Mizuno isn’t the only ones that will release product as scheduled.

I also want to know more, "Investment cast company" doesn't say much to me.. What's the company called that is making them the government money?

I would also like to know if this cancelled summer release is a fact because then I might just pull the trigger on em T100S's, was holding off for the new iBlade replacement..

I also saw the Mizuno episode Chris had with TXG and looks like it's full steam ahead for summer release, would really be weird if one company released new clubs but others didn't. I have to admit seeing Taylormade lower the SIM line prices so soon into the release was a bit surprising, you can get a fully fitted SIM Max driver for like ~350€ already here so it's hard to see that making much money to anyone.awtryau89 can you mention what site, maybe use code so WRX doesn't get upset?

The investment cast company is called "Dolphin" and is also located in Phoenix. They do precision work for the Defense Department and many commercial customers. I went through the plant five years ago and it was fascinating. At that time the last iron head made there was the Karsten. Clubs are no longer cast there.

TM is owned by KPS Capital, unless I’m wrong that is a PE and they have not yet spun off TM as a public entity. I founded, ran, and sold (to PE) a company that was at $800M in top line, trust me, as good as PING is, and they are good, no one likes inventory and idle machinery. However, they weren’t not the aim of my initial comment. My aim was that PING would likely delay their next release to 2021 so as to not get caught up in the slash and burn pricing that is certain to happen in the coming months. Tougher to sell your new driver for $500 when Callaway, TM or Cobra are doing a BOGO for a driver/FW/Hybrid at $399.

They have closed their production facility in the US. The thing is these releases are planned out years in advance. The next release after is already in the works and possibly the one after that. The ripple effect of delaying a release will be felt for years.
