7300+ and par 70 is stout.  I don't know the course well and haven't looked as of yet but someone previous was lamenting the 350 yard drives due to the firm fairways.  Are the fairways mostly straight and the players benefiting from tons of roll-out or are they pulling the old cut the corner, over the trees, and drop it on a spot play?

The course has some dog legs, but is more of a straight ahead park land layout.  They are hitting 350 yard drives because we are in the middle of a significant drought up here in Northern Illinois, and sprinklers or not, the ground is brick hard.  Much firmer than even the typical firm fairway conditions the tour aims for on a weekly basis.

Fair enough.  You can't really fault a guy for a 350 yard drive if it keeps it in the fairway.  The thing I like about that (though I am not a fan of distance gains driving for the most part) is that the short hitting guy is getting the same advantage as the long hitter and the accurate guy a little bump in distance.  Also an advantage to the guy that can flight his drives down somewhat and get the roll out.  If a player can make use of the conditions or course to gain distance so be it.  If it is because he put the new rocket shaft turbolated driver head in play that's another story.

Golf in a drought is not all bad.  We have the remnants of Laura parked over us for the weekend and there has been no shortage of rain here this summer.  The rough on the course I played on yesterday was extremely lush.  It was a mix of bluegrass and encroached bermuda.  There was some time taken to find balls not very far off the fairway.

Not a lot of the players have experience on these greens as they have not played the course much.  Have been lucky to play the course a few times and the greens are about as pure as any in the Chicago area.  However there are so many subtle slopes that can make a great putter look poor.

Richy Werenski missed 6 putts yesterday of less than 3 feet. His make percentage this year on putts of 3 feet or less is 99.6% and he had only missed 2 putts under 3 feet all year.  That should give you some indication of the complexity.

Very good post.  Played there myself a few years ago, I recall having to play nearly every 4 to 8 foot putt outside the hole.  And that was on relatively easy pin placements!

I think TW has some non-golf stuff going on or something On his mind. Just seems like he’d rather be somewhere else.

DeeeJayyyy! That was dope!

I dont think he really care about making the tour championship, 3 weeks in a row is to much for him, prolly just going around practicing for the US open

Great tournament so far.  Though the real question is, what does a four handicap shoot?

I’m a 4.  I could realistically see me shooting 100 out there and I’m being generous to myself.

Honestly think tiger would be rather caddying for his son. And I don’t blame him. Spending time with your kids growing up is irreplaceable

Course is making TW look like a beginner..

As the course has for many other well known names in the field.  BTW where has @tw_focus been lately? LOL!

To wit JT +7, Morikawa +8,  Rahm +6, Na +6, Berger +7, JDay +10,  Champ +11, Im +11, Streelman +16, Leishman +18.

Too many here need to temper any expectations whenever Tiger plays and stop acting surprised when he doesn't play well. The Tiger that won at Augusta and the Zozo is gone. All we have now is ceremonial Tiger.

A year or so ago he had already won twice in his comeback so those people who said he would never win again a year ago were dumb as he had already won the 2018 Tour Championship and 2019 Masters. Since he won the Zozo last fall in Japan his play has been poor by his standards.

His results since the Farmers this year have been worse than at any time since his comeback at the start of 2018. By a bunch. This week is simply more of the same. I want to see him play well and win again. It's great for the game on all levels. However facts are facts and this version of  Tiger 2020 is nowhere near the same as Tiger 2018 or 2019. That can not be argued.

Right, and my comment above does take into account the fact that the field is also putting really poorly by their standards (these greens are a thing of beauty), but we are talking about Tiger Woods here, probably one of the best three putters of all time. Something doesn’t seem right when Tiger is missing the hole by a few feet from 10-20 feet. His whole career he has gone on and on about how he hates slow greens and feels like that brings the field back to him; well what is his excuse now? These greens are lightning and pure as they get and he is still putting like a jabroni. I love Tiger and will always watch, but man is he playing some boring golf. It’s not Jim Herman/Matt Kuchar/Zach Johnson boring but holy hell it feels like it is getting close.
