Great move for Cally.  Phil is a legend, but he doesn’t move the needle anymore.  Xander is an incredible golfer but not a draw at all. Rahm has some flash and flair and will bring some pizzaz to the Cally staff.

But Rose is extremely picky and particular to where if something is off a gram or two he won't play it because it feels off to him. Rahm on the other hand is less high maintenance with his equipment.

Similar situation with Sergio..When him and Taylormade split and he went to callaway his game struggled but he is also very particular with his clubs like rose

Surprising. I know the TM lineup getting pretty heavy these days, but I started to enjoy listening to him on TM’s YouTube channel. He brings almost a ‘regular guy’ approach to golf. So in that sense, he’ll be missed. 
 

But be interested to see how he does moving forward as others have already said. The Phil relationship connects all the dots though. I don’t see him as the spokesperson for Callaway but young and has plenty of time to form into it.

As good as he is this doesn't move the needle. I'd argue equipment contracts mean little outside of roughly 8-10 guys. Good for the equipment counts I suppose. I wonder if he switches to ProV or Bridgestone then? No way he can go from TP5 to anything Callaway produces at retail. Now I wouldn't know about the '20 versions, but in the past even teaching pro's had access to different versions as the retail product just wasn't good. 

Also getting out of Adidas gear is a no brainer, but with Rahm's build they have to be careful with the fit(see Patrick Reed in Nike 🤢).

Rahm going to callaway was an obvious move with his ASU connections. I think he will succeed no matter what.

And Webb Simpson is #7. No one cares what he plays. I'm just saying to the average person or even gear nut you aren't going to reference either of those two when talking about equipment.

 

You'd bring up DJ, JT, Rory, Bryson, Rickie, Brooks, Scott, Wolff, Fleetwood if they changed grips let alone a driver shaft. Then add major changes for Hideki, Finau, Hovland, Rose, Woodland, Tiger, Phil, JDay, Sergio, Bubba, Stenson, Champ, Speith, and probably a dozen others before you'd even think about what Rahm plays or even care. He plays 8 year old shafts and 5 year old irons. So you have the average guy who doesn't know or care and not enough interest from the gear heads. 

 

Edit: Not that it's a bad signing, having Callaway on his hat when he's in contention is worth the money. Morikowa, Wolff, or Fleetwood would have been way bigger news.

I see your point. I just disagree with it. I think Rahm is more interesting than many. Somewhat not in a good way with all the club slammings and temper tantrum’s. But he is a regular winner and contender. He will win multiple majors and probably soon.

 

how many times did we have to watch that freaking water skip whole in one.. on his birthday.. haha

Agreed. Callaway doesn't have to care if we care what's in his bag as long as their logo is on his hat. Add in the fact I don't care for the tantrums or demenor which is maybe not as subtle as I had hoped in my post 🙂.

I don’t mind a tantrum here and there. Showing emotion, positive and negative, is good for the sport. These guys can be a bit robotic sometimes. Nice to see they’re human and it makes them more relatable to the average golfer.

Heres my take. Love rahm... big giant cry baby though... hes going to struggle and have a hard time now... its automatically going to be blamed on the clubs which to be fair can happen to anyone because truly as good as each brand is there are certain brands that fit each individual best... for me that tends to be callaway and mizuno for woods irons and wedges and putter is odyssey or scotty. Soon as he has a few bad rounds hes going to be agitated and think why did i switch. Unless hes absolutely so sure the equitment feels and works that much better but im guessing $$$... good move by callaway.

Rose had a dark patch...with everything custom made for him including irons, wedges, etc. Yeah, it was totally the manufacturers fault. I think he just sucked for a little

while.

 

Rhambo going to Callaway, solid. They are as good as TM. Better in some categories.

to golfers, yes?  but, to me, outside of his occasional flares of emotion, he just isn't interesting outside of golf...but it's a golf brand and if that's the audience they want, they'll get...outside of it?  probably not.

As many have said, ball will be the biggest issue. It wouldn't shock me at all if he ends up in a Pro V or Bridgestone. Odyssey has so many putter options compared to TM that he'll fit somewhere, even if he hadn't previously used a 2-ball.

I guess you forget that he won his like 1st or 2nd start with the Homna's in the bag.  Much better comparison would have been Daniel Berger who played TM and was a budding star, switched to Callaway and disappeared until he went back to his old TM clubs. 

As mentioned though, Rose very picky with clubs, Sergio another guy who's super picky about his stuff. Rahm as long as he has PX iron shafts and ATX Green wood shafts will be okay.

He went from #1 player in the world to 32nd.  So he might want to be a little more picky on what he's playing.

Usually $3-$5M per from what I’ve heard.
