Jon Rahm to Callaway

Per TheEquipmentJunkie on IG it looks like Jon Rahm has signed a club deal with Callaway and clothing deal with Travis Matthew.

With Phil aging out slowly they needed a big, younger name. He doesn’t seem to care too much what he plays so an equipment change from him doesn’t come as a shock.

I might be wrong but wasn't he a 2-Ball putter guy in college maybe he likes the thought of going back to that or just the bags of money.

He used to be a mostly Titleist guy in college, maybe some TM woods. Don't know on putter though

 

I would bet TM gave him a pretty solid offer, Callaway must have brought out the brinks truck

Listening to Rahm on WITB interviews he's not picky with his equipment. He's one of those guys who has used the same shafts forever so as long as he has the shafts he plays he'll be good. 

 

If this is all true I'm now curious on what will be the putter that he ends up playing.

I don’t know about college, but when he first came out on tour he was using a 2-ball fang. The move makes some sense, but it would surprise me a bit

A seamless transition lol. But many, many more putter options with Callaway/Odyssey vs TM.

The big question is will he tee up a Chrome Soft X or whatever the new addition to the CS lineup will be called.

Makes a lot of sense if he likes the equipment. Between dj, tiger, Wolfe, morikawa, and rory, rahm was in the shadows. He immediately becomes callaway's top draw.

John played for Tim Mickelson at ASU and he also shares the same management group as Phil.  Phil has a direct connection to Rahm and a lifetime deal with Callaway.  Seems to make perfect sense to me.

TXG did a review on the new chrome soft x and they thought it was probably the most consistent golf ball across all categories.

Boom! This is pretty awesome for Callaway fans. I thought he was a TM guy for life but I guess he either likes their clubs or their money (maybe a bit of both). Didn't he play ping clubs when he was at Arizona State?

Yikes.  This might not be good for his golfing career.  Few guys out there who moved from TM to Callaway have struggled since.

When I tested the '20 CSX against the current TP5, I found them to be VERY similar. Granted I know I'm not as discerning as most elite players, but that shouldn't be a particularly tough transition. If he'd been a TP5X guy switching might have been trickier, but then there may or may not be something in the works from Callaway that's along those lines as well.

Golf ball is arguably the most difficult switch

Its a laundry list of guys that kick started their success with titleist and later ran for the big dollar contracts. think there was just one guy who kept their streak going with other clubs but most of his clubs were specifically made just for him..... forgot his name tho

Possibly but like @ASN21 said ball is a hard switch and we've kinda seen some Callaway guys leave or struggle playing their ball. For some reason a lot of guys have trouble with the Chrome Soft. Then again Rahm could be pretty easy to work with and just be testing the CS and CSX now to see what he likes better.

I don’t think the Chrome Soft gets much tour usage at all, if any. All CSX of one sort or another.

Sure hope that he doesn’t end up like the other Spaniard who left TM and chased the cash to Callaway. “Epic” fail on Sergio’s journey of equipment change.

Agree with most of the comments here. Golf Ball and Putter will be the most interesting. Everything will be standard after that.

Maybe, but like @MattM97 said, he seems to be pretty blase´ about his equipment to a certain extent, fine to use older cheap stuff (see wood shafts) when they work and seems to readily change into the new models of things without much drama. Of all the top guys, he would be the one i'd be least concerned about making a shift based on his performance.

ball yes, putter will be the stroke lab black 10 with the "S" hosel.  Irons will be the New Forged CB irons.  those are almost identical to his P750.

Whatever it is stamped it will be one that is not part of the retail line.  Guys use “chrome soft” but I think they are all versions that are harder.  Even the mini tour players seem to use a diamond version of one type or another.
