What’s the Worst Feeling in Golf?

lipping out a 5 footer for par. Definitely the worst for me. More than anything else that feels like truly just giving away a shot

Missing a putt from inside 3 feet.

Although being the guest in the championship flight of a member/guest and shanking one off the first tee kinda sucked.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Topping the ball on the first tee with groups lined up in back of of waiting to tee off. Ughh.

Guilty as charged.  It's just bad as duffing one off the first tee.   I've been known to do both back in my younger years.

-realizing when the ball is in the air, has been purely struck, is on a perfect line, that you used your 6 iron instead of your 9 iron...

-pacing off from a marker however many paces to your ball, adding that total to the number that was on the marker only to realize after hitting that you were supposed to subtract...

of course these are just speculation on my part and definitely not an admission of on course idiocy😔

of course not, me neither!

The worst feeling in golf for me was when I had that one blow up hole and it triggered a chain of bad holes subsequently.  I think I've gotten better at controlling my emotions out the golf course and it doesn't happen too often anymore.

I travel by plane to visit my brother in law, play 2 rounds at his  club and can barely get my irons in the vicinity of the green for having the pull hooks.

A close second is meeting my wife's uncle at Hilton Head and having the snap hooks with the driver.

Making a great birdie followed immediately by a bogey.  Get one, give one.   Only to be challenged by standing on 18 tee under par and smoking one OB.

Playing with someone you want to impress and playing terribly.

The bad drive immediately following a bad drive when all you wanted to do was get back on track.

Any shot from around the green that results in taking a drop, like skulling a bunker shot into the water.

Multiple shanks when you're really playing well, that have no rhyme nor reason. A collapsing round ensues soon after, as mentally you check out for the day, questioning your abilities.... "Am I really any good at this game, or was I just imagining that?????"

This - any time you shank 2 in a row. You can dismiss the first one as one of those things, but if you do it again.....

Had a round a few years ago when I shanked every wedge i swung. Ended up putting from the  fairway with a hybrid, and bumping 7 irons from 100 yards just to get round. Miserable day.

Close second - getting excited about getting on a great course, going to the range and hitting nothing but duck hooks with driver on the range. Hoped it would magically resolve itself on the tee, but hit one into the member’s swimming pool to start the round.

Nothing as bad as my housemate in college, who got to play in the Varsity golf match on an open championship course . Opening round was foursomes - in front of family and friends, he barely makes contact and doesn’t get it as far as the next set of tees. His partner has to pull out his 3 wood, smokes it, and my friend had a very long walk of shame.

For me it has to be having a really good round and thinking you have figured something out.  The , two days later, after thinking about it the entire time, it is time to play again.  You go out excited to play well and put up a good score.  And before the first hole is finished you realize that whatever you thought you had figured out will not help you today and you just don’t have “it”.

Remember, you never really get it just borrow it for awhile. 🤣
