Still gaming G400 Max?

Kinda the topic I was looking for…have been debating on replacing the g400 9* with x-torsion shaft with something newer.  But I may just put a ventus blue in since I love the g400, well besides the counter balanced shaft currently in there.  Have a ping tour shaft in a g410 3 wood and that thing just launches and feels much more stable.

Can you imagine going back in time and putting this club in the hands of somebody like Ben Hogan or Sam Snead? That would be crazy!

Well, I can imagine myself going back in time and actually gaming this back in 2017 instead of going for low spinning clubs. lol I could have saved myself from a lot of hurt. lol

This thread just made me buy a 400 max again because it was so good and I foolishly got rid of it. However the callaway mavrik max is something special and one I will never sell. If they wouldn’t have marketed it as draw bias i think it would get a ton of threads praising it. Cant wait to try the rogue max.

Mine is still in the bag. I lasted posted in this thread a year ago that I had broke my Diamana Kai'la shaft in my 400 Max and wasn't sure what I was going to do. I ended up taking an old Aldila NV 65 shaft that I had lying around and putting a Ping adapter on it just for kicks and giggles. Turned out that it works great and is still a fairway finder. The sound doesn't bother me as my hearing is so bad anyway.

The G400 line is so good.  I just picked up a 10* LST head with the Tour 65 stiff shaft and a good swing produced a high towering straight bomb, time after time.  I forgot how good these heads are.  I love the Max, too, but I really like the sound and feel of the LST in this range.

G400 Max is still in the bag. I have 2 stock shafts (tour stiff and Alta CB stiff) that I switch in the colder weather (the CB seems to help in cold weather).  Absolute fairway finder and plenty long too.  It's a joy to hit and I have grown to really like the turbulators on the top too - makes alignment easy.  Can't see why I'd switch at the moment especially as the new drivers don't provide any more distance and only improve your mishits. But how can you improve mishits when it's already terrific.

@freddi22cl, what did you find with your TXG fitting in comparison to your G400?

The wife asked what I wanted for my birthday, and I responded with a lightly used G400 Max head. Just need to figure out if I want a 9 or 10.5° head, I have a very high ball flight...

i tried the Tm Stealth, Cobra LDX, Ping G425.

im 55, swing speed  100 mph. Mid-handicapper, do not hit center of clubface regularly lol

Like everyone else, looking for length and good shot dispersion. I told the fitter i'd give up a few yds for more fairways.

The only advantage the Ping G425 has over the PingG400 is adjustability with the back weight, for me at least . So if someone has a significant miss, lets say a fade that can often turn into a slice putting the weight in the heel helps. The weight amount is significant  (toe - center-heel)!

but that's not me. I did not find a significant difference in distance between the Ping G400 and Ping G425. Same with shot dispersion.

The Ping G425 head feels heavier than the Ping G400. So if you like that feel, then the Ping G425 maybe a better option. And again it has more adjustability . But as you likely know the Ping G400 does allow for some adjustability as loft can be moved up or down (can be impactful as you mentioned you have a very high ball flight)

hope this helps!!!!!

I sold mine, could not find a suitable replacement and bought another one, brand new from Carl's for $397 about 6 months ago.  I now play it 10 rounds/month.  Love it.

I am about to sell the TSI2 I bought last year. I got bored with golf I guess and wanted to try something new. With a velocore in the 400 max, I don't think there's anything out there that I could hit significantly better. I'd love to be wrong and find the next greatest driver on earth, but I spend enough money on golf!

Mine is still in the bag - with a Evenflow Black 75.  I actually went to 2nd Swing to try most of the new heads (Stealth, etc.) with a bunch of different shafts...the fitter said that he doubted I would find something better.  He was right...he said to come back in a year and try again.  It is a fantastic head.  Misses go...and while the rap was it was not as long as many of the other heads, I have not found that to be the case.

That's what I was thinking.

I currently play a G30 SFT with the TFC419 shaft in stiff - and I launch the thing HIGH. Sometimes it looks like it's just going to go forever, but then just falls out of the sky.

I bought a Ping Tour 65 S shaft to try out, to see if it will help lower launch a little. A cheap experiment. Just waiting for it to show up.

The wife has a G400 Max in 10.5°, so I have the benefit of trying out different shafts with her head to find a combination that works, or to at least determine if I need a lower angled head.

I switch back n forth between the G400 MAX and G425 MAX.  Both equally long and equally forgiving.  I can’t see Ping ever topping these 2 drivers in terms of forgiveness, accuracy and length.

I played the other weekend with my friend who just bought the new Stealth driver for eleventy billion dollars. I hit my tee shot about 275 middle of the fairway with my G400Max and then I asked him if I could hit one with his new Stealth driver. Smashed another one and the ball literally landed right next to my first G400 drive in the middle of the fairway. Same distance, about 5-10 yards away from each other laterally.

Moral of the story......at least with my swing--there is no point to spend crazy money on a brand new driver to replace the G400Max unless you are bored and have money burning a hole in your pocket.

I took it as a sign from the heavens that with 2 pure driver hits, with the same swing, the G400 will perform just as good as any brand new driver will.

I've done similar experiments, but only with golf balls, using my 400 max.  Cheapo Maxfli & Pro V1.  Both wound up within a few yards of each other on equal strikes.  Guess what ball I don't play?

I just bought a used Ping G400 max 9 degree and have gained about 50 yards off the tee.....now joke.  I was swinging a Ping G10 and Ping K15 driver for the past 10 years and usually hit my driver about 200-210.

I bought a used Ping G400 max 9 degree (I heard they launch high) and cranked it down to 8.4 degree and am easily hitting the ball 250 now which for me is really long.  This driver just amazes me

I am considering buying a Ping G425 Max driver just to compare how it stacks up with the Ping G400 Max.  The sound will not bother me but I just love the look of the G425

I will go to my grave saying that unless you are a single digit handicap, the best golf ball you can play is that one thats on Sale for $25/dozen.

I gamed the Vice Pros, Chrome Soft LS, Bridgestone e12 contact, ect. They are all the same to me. I cant see the slightest difference in distance/spin in golf balls being a 14 handicap. Makes no difference to me how much the ball costs when I spin it off the face of the earth OB on the 2nd hole. The only difference I could tell in golf balls in 20 years of playing were the Noodles because how incredibly soft they were. Thats it.

$50/dozen LS golf balls dont stop *****ty inconsistent swings from amateur golfers.

I love the 9* G410 lst I have, but I’ve become too low spin with swing changes, so I have to loft up to 8-8.5* to gain spin since my misses are high toe. If I’m flushing it, I’m launching at 15.5* and spinning around 1800rpm with it set at 7.5*

I just bought a mint G400 max head at 9* to gain some spin compared to the G410lst and a loft sleeve from Billy Bobs that allows you to go up and down 1.5*.

im hoping to gain a bit of spin at the same setting, and the added forgiveness shouldn’t hurt.
