Still gaming G400 Max?

I’m pretty sure the Max still has more MOI than the G410 Plus.

I still game the Max, and recently paired it with a Tensei Blue 55 SFT.  The Max is now longer than ever!

I play the Max and have not been tempted to try to the 410 since it's release.  Someone said earlier on this thread that the 425 Max will have a higher MOI...where did that information come from?  The Max and the PXG were supposedly the highest MOI drivers out there so it will be interesting if true.

I may lose a touch of distance with my Max compared to my M2 BUT over the course of 10 rounds, I would imagine I hit 10 to 20% more fairways with the Max. It's just an incredibly functional driver.  I had heard people gripe about the sound of the driver prior to me getting it late last year, but I have absolutely no issue with the sound.  It's obviously a different sound than a TM or Titleist but it's not something that's a deal breaker.

It would be very very dependent on the individuals situation i reckon. People get pretty finicky over such matters. One guy will think the FA has closed too much dialing up while another might not.  Tolerances as well, one guy might have a 400 that is the lower lofted side of the norm and pick up a 425 that is on the higher lofted side or the norm.

There is to every chance a guy really dialed in with the 400 will find the 425 configured the exactly same  too low spinning.

I really look forward to you guys getting them in hand and seeing what the majority think.

Great response. Thank you.

I had a G400 Max for over a year and never really loved it. Despite trying multiple shafts and different lengths  it didn't replace  the King Ltd in my bag.

Realistically, is there any significant difference in forgiveness amongst any of the higher MOI drivers? Golfers (myself included)  became enamored with the G400 max MOi numbers. But MOI  isn't everything or we'd all still be using the Nike Sumo2 driver.

Did you get fit for the Tensei Blue 55?  Or what led you to try it.

What kind of yardage did you gain with it?

I kinda have to agree and assume that most major brands would be very close to each other number-wise in their high MOI offerings in which case, does it just come down to personal feel/preference...or a brand's MOI/CG combination...or both?

I tested a g400 and liked it - decent distance and good dispersion.....but then i tried a Rogue driver (which also has a high MOI i believe) and had similar decent dispersion but 15+ more yards - it was an easy decision which to purchase.

Sidenote: is there somewhere on a club's spec sheets that note its MOI number?

Didn't like the sound of the Max, or the fact that it looked huge.

Very happy with the G400. Best driver I've owned.

Don't know about that, but MGS publishes that info in their tests.

The G425 Max is noticeably lower spinning, also hugely forgiving and a bit better sounding and feeling (for me). It's going to be a big hit for Ping and i don't think the LST will be far behind.

I’ve been gaming g400 max 9° with a hzrdus smoke for the past 2 years. I’ve had a love hate relationship with it and 90% of my hate for it is because of my inconsistent driver swing. My spin numbers were really low on it because of my positive AOA so I recently got fit for the TSI2 with the hzrdus RDX! Never loved the sound of feel of the ping but the titleist sounds and feels fantastic to me

The G400 Max is an amazing driver.  The most forgiving driver I ever owned.  I sold mine at the beginning of the year thinking the SpeedZone was better.  I then went through several other drivers before landing on the 410 Plus.  The 9* 410 is a better fit than my 10.5* max was.

It'll be interesting to see what the 425 brings.

About a month ago I extended the shaft of my G 400 max by about 2 inches. The ball goes about 15 to 20 yards further. It seems to go straight enough as well. Honestly, when I hit it flush it goes in the fairway. If I miss it a little bit I don’t notice it going significantly further off-line that it usually would. If I miss it really bad, it will be in the weeds just like my 45.25 inch driver was.

Not sure my middling eye-hand coordination could handle an extra two inches of shaft length, and still make anywhere near consistent center-face contact.  Not that I'd turn down 15-20 extra yards, but I'm afraid that it would be that much further into the weeds.

I've played the G400 Max for 2 1/2 seasons now, a record for a driver in my bag. Prior to the Max it was basically a revolving door of clubs: G400 LST, G, G30, numerous TM's. I don't think it's going anywhere soon. The fact that it used the same adapter as the previous generations of Pings was a plus, allowing me to simply buy the heads and swap in my shaft.

Still gaming the regular G400 and love it.  Tried the 410 and gained maybe 3-5 yards but would like like to try the LST model.   Usually I need a little more spin but would like to compare.   My current gamer is rarely a big miss.

I'm still playing mine. I bought mine without ever hitting a Ping G400 of any sort. I did put my old faith Diamana Kai'la shaft in it at the shorter length like the Titleist 913 and changed the weight accordingly. Might hang onto it as long as my buddy who is still playing an R9!

No, I didn't get fit for the Tensei Blue 55 SFT.  In the past, I had gotten fit, and I had good numbers with the Blueboard profile.  I was gaming the Atmos TS Blue for awhile but as the temperatures dropped and conditions were wetter, I was toying with 55 gram profile shafts.  Tensei felt the best and was longer than the other 55 gram shaft I had (Accra CS 455).   I picked up about 5 yards of carry and it's definitely easier to hit draws.  It kind of feels like the Aldila Cooperhead 6S actually.

RDX was a great fit for me as well in the TSi2, but I went with the Raw White as the dispersion was tighter.  Looking back, I kind of wish I went with the RDX as it felt like it launched more consistently.  Just can't seem to dial the TSi2 in so I have gone back to the Max, it is just so easy to hit where I want.

Part of my issue was I was in and extra stiff shaft when I probably should have been playing a stiff. Y’all will be happy to hear instead of ordering the TSI2 with the HZRDUS RDX that I was fit for... I order it with a Ventus Blue Velocore LOL

Gamed G400 Max with Tour AD DI for three seasons.

Great driver in forgivness and distance.

I had a chance to hit TM M6 with Tour AD BB and it carried longer and often hits bomb that doesn't come down.

I love my 400 Max and haven't even considered changing.  It's super forgiving of toe strikes, which is my (consistent) miss.  People that talk about how certain heads are "lower spin" than the 400 Max are talking a language that I don't understand.  Shot performance to me depends on contact (swing) performance, and I'm not at the point of worrying about a few hundred rpm's when my swing is fully capable of shooting the ball into an adjacent fairway.  Mind you, while I'm aging and don't score like I used too I can still hit the ball farther than the average player and I can break 80 on occasion.  Bottom line is that the max is a great club and you better be a damn good player if you are going to complain about it.

I can respond to this.  I played a g30 10.5 degrees for 4 seasons.  Started with the TFC419 stiff at 45.5” and moved to TFC419 reg at 45.25”.    I’m 52 and my ss with the driver has slowly decreased from 95 to around 90 over the past few years.  The g30 is a fantastic driver.  I hated the sound but put 3g of yarn in it and that muted it to where it sounded perfect to me.

At the end of last season, my pro shop was selling a g400 max demo, 10.5 degrees, Alta CB 55 reg flex.  I bought it and immediately DID NOT like it.  It was hard to control, launched too high, spun/floated too much.  Unlike many others, I actually liked the sound — more of a metallic thwack but definitely not tingy or hollow like the g30 pre-yarn.

Anyway, to make a long story short, on a whim, I purchased an Alta CB 55 in stiff flex to try that in the g400 max head.  The club literally came alive.  The ball flight came down, as did the spin, and the club became a long fairway finder for me.   I am not long by any means, but I’ve had my share of drives in the 240-250 range this past summer, and that’s big for me.  The club just inspires confidence and the mishits are where the Max really shines.  That’s not to say that the G30 is unforgiving.  It is incredibly forgiving as well.  The Max just gives that little extra something that in my mind makes it worth the upgrade from the g30.

That said, I still have the 10.5 g30 and another 10.5 g30 lst with multiple shaft options.  Both of my sons (18 and 20) are now playing and it’s like being pregnant — need to eat for 2, or in my case, 3.

Hope this helps.

that does help, thanks!

i have played a g30 419 in x flex forever. I’ve tried tons of other drivers and none stay. Since I can use the same adapter then I figure it might be all upside since I love this shaft.

putting aside the triton (who used a rogue silver 125) the 419 has to be in the running for best stock shaft of all time.
