2021 Players Championship (1st major of the year)

Would be so great for a UPS sponsored player to win the Tour’s prime event when we get the FedEx Cup crammed down our throats all year long. The Tour won’t allow anyone else but Westwood and Louis to be sponsored by competitors to FedEx.

we've seen this over and over and over through the history of the game with very few exceptions ... these old guys show up here and there in big tournaments in rounds 1-3 and invariably fade and never get the W, esp. guys that putt and chip like westwood

expecting 72-75 from the leader with BDC for the title or maybe a comeback from the Rahminator if he gets it rolling

Westwood is historically a terrible putter

Cutting the "during the final round" off here so as not to jinx.

Made some putts on Saturday I didn't think he'd make. Did the same at Arnie's but Bryson played better.

I'm looking forward to Sunday. We either get the grey old guy (which I'd love as a fellow grey old guy) or if Bryson wins, we get all sorts of media.

Or JT goes low and steals it. Or whatever.

Gonna be a good final round, kids.

Don’t compare minor league European wins vs primary pga players

You rate the PGA tour too highly.

I see better quality of golf on harder and more varied courses on the European Tour.

It's why Europe's best more often than not beat USA's best in Ryder Cups.

Generally speaking a top European golfer has a wider skill set than a top US golfer.

No point having a USA vs Europe debate, but as you jumped in to belittle the European Tour, I'll make it known I disagree with you.

You’re absolutely right here.  The US has won a very impressive 3 of the last 10 Ryder Cups and every time a US player crosses the pond they dominate those AA ball Euro Trash hacks.  After all, who wouldn’t want to uproot their family and live in a foreign country full time just to play bomb and gouge for a bigger pay check...

Good post.

Well, anyone is welcome to come over here and give it their best. And while several Euro tour stars have done so with success over the years, some becoming world wide golf legends, historically the majority of the winners have come from the PGA Tour.

It says something that many of the best players from the Euro, Asian, Latin American etc tours keep coming, that they consider this the ultimate golf test. The Ryder Cup, while an awesome golf experience, is a different kind of challenge.

Having said that, I’m pulling for Westwood today.  And hopefully soon for his first major, maybe even at the Masters.

No, 'anyone' is not welcome to go over to the USA and give it a try.  You need a tour card to play or an invite. What you mean is any young kid is welcome to leave their home and go live in a foreign country - if they get accepted by US immigration laws - to try and build a golf career.  Obviously that is not going to be the normal route for a young European player.

Some go to college in the US, like Rahm and Casey, but's it's obviously easier to make it onto the US tour as an American than it is a European up and coming young golfer - hence most European kids start out in Europe.

The talent in European golf is excellent and the tours can not be compared to each other beyond the bigger prize money and different challenges both tours represent. But, it is no more difficult making it to the tour and winning a US PGA tour event than it is a European Tour event.

Personally I like both tours and have favourite players based on their personalities and games than which country they come from.  Frankly i was just responding to a dumb a** comment about the quality of the game in Europe.

i am going to enjoy watching today because I'd love to see any of those players win BD, JT, LW, JR.  Even the young kid Ghim, who i know little about, would be a great story.  If I were to pick one that I'd really like to see win though, it would be Matthew Fitzpatrick. Really great kid and a great game and I was incredibly impressed with how he handled one of those awful days yesterday.  His par round was my favourite of the day.  Many other golfers would have shot 80+.

So how many will Bryson win by today ?  I’ll say 3 clear. Didn’t miss a putt inside 20 ft yesterday, that’s the part of his game that’s the difference maker.

I want to know what he can do without that greens book.

It’s the upright putting stroke and armlock.  He’s broken the code.  The greens book is just icing.  I’d love to see them banned too. But he’d still be one of the best putters on tour.  He’s taken the variables out.

Pulling for Westwood. Just seems like a class act.

Yep. I’d love to see Westwood win too.  But I just know that he’s closer to a Garcia putter than a closer putter.  He will have to shoot 3-4 under at least to win.  Maybe lower.

The odds are against Bryson. I believe the last to win the API and Players, was Tiger?

-It will be an epic win of Bryson does pull it off though.

I'd like to see Westy finish strong and win it.... if not then I'd love to see JT, take it.. Or the young buck Ghim.

Should be a great sunday!

Yeah, true. I feel like he’s got the calculations down pat with the greens book and his stroke length. He checks the measurements in the book and uses that for line and speed he’s not reading the greens with his eyes or feel. And yeah, bracing the putter like that should be illegal. I hope they ban it.

We should also ban whatever Westwood is doing because he's two strokes in front of BDC. If BDC is kinda cheating then Westwood must be INSANE cheating with his bagel breakfast and zero-friction tees.
