New Cobra Putters

Recommended Posts

Had my first round with the Sport-45.

As good as any putter in the feel, sound, weight and looks department. Performance is a cut above. Great roll on the fast greens I was playing today. No skidding. The ball held its line and distance control for me was pretty easy. The face looks like its made up of horizontal fins that are very thin, making a nice texture from top to bottom, and grab the ball very well on a stroke.

One negative.

The face is soft. CLEAN YOU BALLS. If a grain of sand is between the aluminum face and your ball on a long putt (hard strike), you will get a tiny ding.

That's not stopping me though. I really enjoy this putter and I'm considering trading in my Phantom X for a Supernova as well.

Some may not carry them.  I was talking to the manager at my GG and he said his store will probably not carry them because Cobra just doesn’t sell very well there.

Unfortunate. That’s exactly why I don’t buy from GG. They limit themselves to the top 5 brands plus their own.

I remember a few years ago there was some sort of beef with cobra and GG/dicks and they stopped stocking the clubs

I thought it had more to do with cutting hard goods space (cobra, Cleveland other than wedges, etc). To make more room for higher margin soft goods

Putted one of the #7 clones today. These putters are very, very good. They align well. They feel solid. They are super stable. They put a good roll on the ball.

Just check the grip. The king 3D putter was notorious for misaligned grips. Checked the new line and same issue.

Nope just a good look down the shaft. Pretty obvious how off they are.
easiest way to check is to put the putter grip (flat part) against a door and the putter face against the door jam side of the door to check for alignment.

Got out and played a few round with the nova. Overall pretty happy and am buying into the sik face, definitely produces a more consistent (better?) launch/roll. Have a 2 ball ten currently and would be pretty surprised if the nova wasn't at least as stable, if not more. The stock grip is really firm with not much feel in it so will be changing that this week.

Let's be honest, Cobra make good irons and Drivers. The wedges are not really "up there", nor do I expect the putters are either.

Stick to what you're good at and develop them further, stop wasting time on putters and wedges. As much as i'd love to ; nobody will game a full bg of cobras.

Probably not many people bagging full Cobra gear but it was smart of them to put SIK tech into their putters given Bryon's success. Some models look absolutely horrid however and the models that do look good are near carbon copies of existing putter models. Nothing unique on their end that looks good to me.

I think they have what it takes. The MiM wedges and the Snake Bites are very good. If the CBX2s didn't perform so well for me, I'd use them.

The new putters are also very good but their materials and QC do need to improve (I still find the Vintage Sport-45 to be great).

I'd gladly play a full bag of Cobras. In a PING bag though 😛

I have had better success with my Supernova than any putter I have owned since my Oddy #7 WHP that is from 2016. Its staying in the bag. I truly believe in the Sik face technology and I can see it puts a better and more consistent roll on the ball for my inconsistent stroke than anything I have ever used. I also believe in the 3D printing. I tried the Nova and its not nearly as good of a putter as the Supernova for me. You can feel the difference in MOI and I can feel that it makes a difference in long putts for sure. This line does need some refinement but its a great start and I will guarantee there will be other MFGs out there will take notice. Hoping to see more of this type thing from competition and hope it makes them up their game.

I purchased the Nova 40 and must say that I am impressed.  I normally only use Cameron but was pleasantly surprised.  Great roll on the ball.  As others have mentioned, face can get nicked if you do not clean off the face or ball before putting.  I had a Phantom 5.5 and sold it as this out performed and a lot cheaper.  Don't knock it till you try it, feel that they did a lot right with this putter line.  Not sure I could use anything but the Vintage models but good putter for the money.

Got a chance to putt with one today. Impressed! Has a good feel, and looked to be a very consistent roll. I think when I have some time I will get on quintic with it and my gamer and see what the camera says.

Tried these today back to back against TM, Odyssey and Evnroll. By far the worst feeling putter of the lot. Felt like I was putting with a hollow piece of tin. I would rank them Odyssey White Hot, Odyssey Microhinge, Taylormade, Evnroll, Cobra. Was really hoping the Nova would feel good because I think it's a good looking head, but Cobra definitely has a lot of work to do in the feel department. On a positive note I did think their grip was fantastic. So they got that going for them...which is nice.

Thats interesting. Seems people either love or hate the feel.  Of those you mentioned, except evnroll, all of those have urethane  type inserts, which i dont really like, too mushy for my taste. If found the feel to be on par with the mizunos, as far as softness/firmness goes. It does have a little bit of a “hollow” feel to it when you flush it, ill give you that. I know the feel is right for me when my speed control is on point. And so far the speed control has been insanely good.

I find most inserts to be polarizing. People either love them or hate them. In my view if I'm going for an insert putter I want it to soften the feel, otherwise I would just go with a one piece product. I didn't come away thinking Cobra accomplished that task. In fact I thought it felt harder than my Evnroll which as you said is a one piece head. I think Cobra is on a good path, but I do think they will do something to soften their insert next year to help sell more product to the masses. It's a very niche product the way it sits.

completely agree, only try to ride on the back of something else, or re-invent the wheel.
