Mizuno the real deal?

Mikeh7

Recommended Posts

mizuno makes great clubs. People just like the brand they like, minor differences between most major OEMs at the same club type. You want Japanese forged, and with a pedigree of winning and for being soft you go Mizuno. If you want an "American" brand with a pedigree of winning and a lot of peoples dream players club you go Titleist.

You really cant go wrong.

I’ve played mizunos for 15 years now.  Was fitted last year and the only head I hit that compared was the PF2 new levels.   Just my preference… Titleist and callaway both make outstanding clubs.  Just up to your personal preference

I'm brand agnostic and thought I'd be okay with a good deal from any of the major players.  Then I discovered the importance of trying as many clubs as possible and not going to a club fitting with preconceptions of what should be on my shortlist.  Some clubs simply won't feel right, while others will feel great.  Even with clubs that feel great you may find a large disparity with accuracy and/or distance, all else being equal.

As for Mizuno, I tried the current iron models at a demo day on my home course and came away really liking the 921 Forged irons.  Feedback is second only to my Wilson Staff Model CBs, but I liked them enough to order a set.  Make a more informed decision by being open to trying whatever you can get your hands on.

Let me put it this way.

Before this year, I had no idea that Mizuno existed as a company (I didn't really pay attention to equipment).

Then I got fitted for clubs.

You can see how this worked out in my signature. I also fully intend to get the new T22 wedges once they're available.

And yes, the T22s are available for preorder, but I want to try them in-hand before I buy.

I was fit earlier this year, I hit Mizuno, Taylormade, Callaway, Titleist and Srixon. All were great but the Mizuno's had numbers that were a little better and were super consistent so that's what I went with. I've been loved hitting them every round and range session.

Been playing Mizuno for 15 or so years now. Played MP 30s, JPX 919F, and now MP20 mmcs.

Loved my MP30s (still have them) and I'm absolutely in love with my MP20s. For me, the JPX model wasn't great for me. I prefer the MPs.

You really can't go wrong with Mizunos irons. I also play the ST190 driver and it's fantastic as well.

Just coincidence on timing, but in a few month span I, my brother, my dad, and a friend all got fitted. We're to low single digits, friend regularly competes in mid-am events. We went in fairly brand agnostic, ended up that all four of us had Mizuno in the top 3, and only my dad opted to get Pings, the rest pulled the trigger on Mizuno.

Mizuno really, really, really know what they're doing with irons. Their woods and wedges are also quickly gaining on the big boys.

As real as it gets.  They've historically made some of the best irons, and their current releases are some of the best things out there. If I didn't get access to TM gear at a discounted rate I'd probably have Mizuno irons in my bag.

As others have noted, you need to hit a few different brands, where its the same basic model (i.e. blade, players cavity back, game improvement) so you can see what works for you, both from a performance and feel perspective.

Prior to this year, when an amazing set of Grindworks irons fell into my lap, I gamed Mizuno for over 15 years.  I still have my original set of MX-23 (circa 2004) up at my buddy's house in NJ so I don't have to travel with my sticks.  They are like an old, broken-in pair of jeans that fit you perfectly. My bud was like "I can't believe you beat me with irons almost 20 years old".

There's something about flushing a Mizuno that is addicting.  But people who play other quality forged irons will say the same about theirs. Go hit a few and see what happens. And let us know how it turns out! 🙂

According to information I found Mizuno started manufacturing baseballs and gloves in 1913 and didn't start manufacturing golf clubs until 1933. Could be wrong though.

to the op, Mizuno still uses some old school forging methods and grain structure technologies that create a very noticeable and unique feel. Some love it and some dont. Just like any other manufacturer. The quality of their irons cannot be questioned however. They are top notch in every way. They are definitely the real deal. If they look good to you and feel good to you, you won’t regret purchasing them.

Mizuno makes some of the finest forgings/irons on planet earth.  Most if not all of Tiger's US Am wins were with Mizuno MPxx and Faldo's finest work at the 1996 Masters were with Mizuno MPxx.

The best blades I ever played were Mizuno MP33's and MP14s.

If Mizuno paid as much as Titleist, Callaway, or TM there would be alot more Mizuno played on all Tours.

Both of these comments are how I went into my fitting.  I was playing Srixon 585 4-6 and 765 7-PW.  When the fitter would hand me a new setup, I didn't look to see what the brand or model was on the head or shaft.  I just swung away.  In my mind that's the best way to do it.  Then you don't have any biased thoughts going on in your head.  I probably hit 7 different heads and just as many shafts.  The numbers didn't lie when I picked the 921 Forged.  Even hit them a week later when I did my wood fitting to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

MP4's are one of the softest feeling irons. Didn't get on with the MP64's. Preferred the 54's over the 63's. Love the look of the MP5's. Chose TM P730/770 combo over MP18. Boron no bueno.

I want to try the Japan only 55's and/or 66's, especially with a little Yoro work.

I'll be the odd man out here - as I generally am. I honestly hate Mizuno irons - but I love their woods.

My hate for Mizuno irons has nothing to do with their quality - which is top notch. I just can't hit the bastards. No matter how much I wanted them to, they never worked for me.

On the other hand, they make great woods that don't get much respect. As a result, I've been able to pick up a number of used models for pennies. I still put my F-50 5w in play from time to time.
